So would you? I have to say after watching our back up secondary against the Bengals I wish we still had him. He wasn't great, but better than what we have for back ups!!!

I imagine at least -one- of our DB signings could bring what Harris did...hopefully more.

He was truly awful last year. Gregg Williams and Jerry Gray will find another hidden gem amongst those whom we have in camp, or we'll get something via trade. I won't miss Walt this year.

Yes. As a starter Harris wasn't very good, but he wasn't as terrible as some of you make him out to be. For a nickle back he was fine.

We can hope someone we've brought in recently is as good, but then that just means we're exactly where we were last year. If Harris was still here, we'd be even deeper.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Only reason we got rid of him was because of his cap number.

As our nickle back. I would take him. To be a starter, No. He was a good tackler for a CB, but he was almost as bad as Roy Williams in coverage. :D

I don't know. Every time we got beat bad, it always seems Walt was some where in the dust, out of position, trying to catch up. I don't think I'll miss him.

Man, you people need to get a grip...give Wright some time; he's learning a new system. He started 16 games for the 6th overall ranked defense last year, 7th in pass defense. He'll be perfectly acceptable as the nickel back; and I won't lose any sleep if he's starting, either. You seem to forget that we've also got the Meast in the secondary as well....he makes up for a lot of CB mistakes. :2cents:

I'd take him as a back up on any team. Back ups are supposed to make mistakes more than usual, but he still had good plays.

I'd have had him for some backup, but his cap ## was insane!

Only so I could snipe him as he came of the Skins bus. F-Walt Harris.

No. It made opponent's offensive plans too easy. We lost or came close to losing too many times because of the "Throw to whoever Walt is covering" strategy employed by all of our opponents by the end of last season.

He is a weak link and Wright will be much better.

walt harris = kenny wright

one really isnt much better than the other. the thing i find funny about corners, is they are going to get beat, you cant expect a corner to prevent a WR from catching everything. the best way to judge a corner is how does he limit himself from getting burned too much.

One is better than the other,

Walt Harris = 32 year old underpeformer of a 1st round pick

Kenny Wright = 27 year old over achiever of a 4th round pick

on upside alone Wright wins the bout. :2cents:

this may be, but from the 1 game we have seen wright play in, walt looks a lot better of an option than wright does. believe me, i hope this changes, i'd love to see him play well, i had hoped we were upgrading a lot by signing a starter from the 2005 season.

so far he hasnt shown us much

Well he did play in the scrimmage right?

So far I've seen Walt burned on a lot more passes than the one fade in the endzone on Wright and the one fluke where wright was knocked over and he got a pass interference call - seeing as it was Doughty's responsibility on the flea flicker.

I'd be happy, but not excited. he does make a good nickel corner.

Now if he started....

Let Williams and Gray figure it out. I am sure who ever is on the field will do a good job. Defense is not going to be a problem this year.

It is funny that we are talking who will be our nickel back. Years past we had bigger problems.

YES YES YES

Harris is not nearly as bad as many here like to make him out to be he was solid last year even as a starter he was turned around a couple of times and confused but Rogers was too. Walt was 10Xs better than Ade Jimoh who may be our starter week 1

We would have to lose Rumph and Wright for Jimoh to start.

Walt Harris had some of the worst statistics as far as pass defense ratios and stuff of any starting CB in the league.

He had tons of tackles, mostly after 10 yards - denoting bad defense. Not to mention he is majorily slowing down at 32, he is not like Springs who can still outrun most rookie CBs.

I know right? Who will be our back up fullback, White or Nemo? These are the kind of BS discussions I can deal with.

No, no, NO! Walt was a liability last year... whoever Coach Williams plugs in there will get the job done I have no worries about our defense. Did you see our starting D-line against the Bengals?? A great pass rush are a CB's best friend...

I dont know if they will find a gem of a player, or a gem of a scheme. I agree we will be fine, but i think Williams will use his brain with blitzes and formations more then he will use player talent.... just my :2cents:

Seriously if you watch the last game in slow mo for all our #1 defenses' snaps, watch Andre Carter's effect on the game.

One of 3 things happens every play:

1) He is in the backfield and engaging the LT before he is even set in his upright stance

2) The line Doubles him and leaves Griff one on one with a huge gap - which Lemar also blitzes through.

3) The whole line slides to double him, leaving P. Daniels 1 on 1 and Marcus Washington is a spin move on the fullback away from sacking the QB.

The effect he seems to have had already on our passrush is unbelievable. I really think he is going to have a breakout (re-breakout?) year. I have a gut feeling we've found a probowl DE for the next 8 years in Carter.

I miss Smooty. :(

All the more reason to hope Santana has an awesome night that monday!

For what's worth I didn't think Harris was that bad. Granted he had a couple of bad games, one awful one, but all in all I think he gave us reasonably solid play.

Those stats are a funny thing Carlos Rogers were signifigantly worse:doh: I don't put to much into those and Walt was comming off a pretty seriouse knee injury.

Well, you are going to be pretty disappointed then when Jimoh wins the 3rd CB job and starts Week 1 assuming Springs is not healthy. I think he passes Wright over the next few weeks. Hopefully Wright doesn't bellyache about it and force us to cut him.

What in the hell made you bring this point of discussion up?? That man was absolutely terrible in coverage. Did you actually watch any of the games last season? He was usually chasing receives AFTER they caught the ball. The job is to keep them from catching the ball. Good riddins. We don't need him, don't want him, would not take him back. PERIOD.

 I would not be dissapointed. I do not make my assumption on any level of disdain for Ade, in fact he was awesome last year when we called on him. In fact I think he performed better at his best moments than Walt The Harris did at his.

If Ade was better than Rumph and Wright, that would mean he really stepped up his game, and since he is still young - I would be very happy.

Sheesh, what kind of diabolical person do you think I am?

Actually.... don't answer that. :silly:

Sorry but we would have won one or two more games last year :2cents: if we had a servicable nickel corner. I still believe Jimoh and Wright can both be better than Harris. And to Harris's credit, he did put forth the effort.

Hmm... I hardly was basing it on stats alone - I just don't know how else to impart my opinion from watching the man play the last two years.

All I know is he is 32 and like you said 3 years removed from a career threatening injury that almost ended a horribly underacieving previous career.

Being 32, having a really bad knee and stinking enough to get cut by our thin CB squad is enough for me - in addition to my own eyes which I trust a lot.

Carlos had excuses - and his #s got a lot better once his broken ankle was fully healed. In fact he was more productive than any other rookie CB last year.
