Hey Gang,
Just wanted to know what you all think about the latest off field issues concerning all athletes in cycling, football, baseball and basketball. It's very dissapointing to see how many athletes are ruining there careers and lives with drugs, alcohol and problems with the law. It makes it hard for me to continue to cheer for teams that have convicted felons and thugs playing for them. It's dissapointing that our society has accepted this behavior as long as they can jump high, tackle well, run hard, shoot 3's etc.. Thank God we have Joe Gibbs who selects players that he believes are good people. It will be nice if the good guys actually finish first for a change.

Overpaid idiots.
They feel they can do anything because they have the money, and they tend to get away with it because who they are.
Everything should be incentives based on performance. Even rookies get a guaranteed amount at signing, and with high draft picks, those amounts are more than I'll make in my life. It's ridiculous.

No matter how much society downgrades, it will always be true that the "good" guys always, eventually, finish first. Or, to put it another way, "Karma is a *****". :cheers:

Mostly what's changed is the media's coverage. Other than that, not much.

Pretty sure this is getting moved...
Not all but a lot of athletes are required to posess incredible maturity or intelligence. Throw a few million at them and suddenly you have a millionaire that doesnt know how to conduct himself. A leathal combo. Some a role models some are no different than the $%^&* that used to play for your HS football team.
As far as the steroids/doping in cycling and other sports. You do it... you take the risk of getting caught. The pressure on these guys is unreal. Cant blame 'em. But I can hate them for it.

This is a good issue for discussion.
It's probably more appropriate for The Tailgate forum though.

Gibbs56....welcome to the boards!:cheers:
And yes be careful where you start threads as there has been a recent spike in members having to take "time off" from the boards for putting threads in the wrong forums.
Just a word to the wise.......
Stadium= Redskins
Around the NFL= news about other teams
Tailgate= anything your heart desires(with some exceptions:silly: )

I don't think it is just athletes, I think it is society in general that is having more trouble dealing with social issues and problems in general. I think it is just magnified for athletes because of the national and international media coverage they receive. We all know how the media just loves dirty laundry!!!! It sells!!!

Jerry Seinfield said it best. When it comes to pro sports...
"We cheer for laundry."
