Ben (Pinehurst, NC): The Redskins brought in Kenny Wright from Jacksonville to be their nickel corner, but MAN did he look bad in the whipping they got from Cincinnati. With Springs likely out for at least the first couple of regular season games, are the 'Skins in trouble at corner? What do Wright's career metrics say about him as a player?

KC Joyner: (4:39 PM ET ) Wright didn't have enough passes thrown at him to be listed as a qualifier last year. I can tell you that he did very poorly in the games he did play. In fact, Houston targeted him in their game vs Jacksonville and toasted him badly last year. Wright had played on the Texans the previous year, so that says the Texans knew he was a coverage liability and went after him.

butch (CT): With all the injuries to the skin's, how do you think they'll start out? Still favorites to win the east?

KC Joyner: (4:05 PM ET ) I would say that the injury to Portis could put the Skins from being the favorite in the NFC East to being about equal with Dallas. Their OL is excellent, so they should be able to run fairly effectively no matter who is in the backfield but Portis is a difference maker.

Ig nyc: KC, I have 10 pick in 12 round. Should I grab Portis if he falls to me. Also should I try to grab Mcgahee in early second? I have a draft this sunday, please help. Thanks.

KC Joyner: (4:37 PM ET ) If Portis falls that far, he would probably be a worthy risk. The only caveat I would make is that you will want to staff your club with some high percentage players to help mitigate that risk.

Sounds like Wright really really sucks!!!

Joyner writes as if Portis tore an ACL and is out for the season when in reality it appears Clinton will be back by the time of the opener.

What is strange about Wright is that he started 15 games for the Jaguars and played in all 16.

There has to be some anecdotal evidence from more than the Texans game to judge him. There should be enough film for the Redskins to have made their judgments based on solid ground.

I'm surprised at how much fantasy owners are flipping out about Portis. Im hearing him dropping into the second from some "experts." Thats crazy.

You would think so--but we all saw his performance on sunday with our own eyes and he looked absolutely horrible. Obviously, the front office is concerned--they've made a run on cbs. To be honest, when I saw Wright peform, I couldn't believe we had actually signed this guy. Keep in mind also that Jacksonville typically puts more pressure on the QB than we do, so their secondary may not need to be quite as strong.

We have to have faith in the staff though...he played one horrific game, we shouldn't judge him entirely on that.

Yeah really. Banged up, maybe, but he'll get plenty of rest and run behind one hell of an O-line. And I wouldn't be surprised if his blocking duties will be cut down to try and keep him healthy. Bottom line: Portis still has a hell of a year.

Should it be forcasted that Protis will miss the first game I will drop him for sure. Not because I don't think he is great but because Betts will tear it up and share time with Portis more than Portis owners would like.

Hey, it's the nature of the beast for sports "experts" to make a big deal out of any injury.

But he was right about the OL, and Betts can get it done if Portis misses a game or two.

is Springs really going to be out for atleast a few regular season games? I thought it was 3-6 weeks.

Wouldn't 6 weeks mean he'll be back by Week 3? So wouldn't it be, "at the most, he'd be out for two reg. season games?"

It'l be 3-6...the guy who asked the question is just a random fan...not medical staff.

I think this injury is a little more serious than people are allowing themselves to believe. This is going to be a nagging injury probably all season long. If I were Bubba Tyer, I'd keep Portis outof week one fore sure. Betts can surely handle the Vikes alone. I would also consider keeping him out week 2. I know that's an important game, but we need him strong and healthy down the stretch. If getting him back in there too soon makes him less of a factor over the coarse of the season, I say rest him.

Portis is a very physical player. That shoulder has a good chance of getting worse if he comes back too soon!

reguardless of the injury, Portis has yet to fall past pick #5 in drafts I've been in

I agree.... he started 15 games yet KC says he didn't have enough passes thrown at him to qualify for metrics. Wouldn't that be a good thing? - For teams to avoid you? I mean no Redskins CB got thrown to more that Walt Harris, whenever he was in the game.

He got toasted in that game.... but he covered Andre Johnson the whole game. Hmm... I wonder if AJ had more to do with where the ball was going than KW's coverage.

Certainly seems dubious from KC Joyner, who almost always covers his bases.

For all the guys GW ripped yesterday - Wright was not one of them.

I couldn't agree more, I had the same injury when I played ball in college. I even played defense where your arm is extended alot more. It took three weeks of therapy and I was back the 4th week. In my personal opinion, because CP has such a grudge against preseason games, this is his ticket for not playing in any.

Wright looked bad enough that we went out and got two more corners this week

I hope Portis slips in the draft that I'm in because of his "horrific" injury. That'll be my steal of the draft.:D

Springs injury is even less significant than CP's. They both will be on the field come 9/11. We all need to quit worrying about this, they wouldn't have opted for the surgery if it was going to be major. The one thing that we all can be thankful for is the 4 pre-season games. This gives all of our 'starters' a time to heal up for game 1.

 Are you serious??? Springs injury is much worse than CP's, and we have a great OL and a few talented back-up backs to help cover for Portis. We DON'T have the DB's to cover for Springs.

And how does having Pre-season games help our starters, especially considering that most of them will probably play in most of the fourth game??? The only preseason game did wonders for our team, didn't it??? Yeah, we get three more!!!

Not to be doom and gloom, but the injury he suffered is pretty severe. As I mentioned in an earlier thread that got buried... my buddy suffered the exact same injury 2 weeks ago, and a full recovery takes about 3 months. Therapy is always the conservative approach that is taken, but surgery can often be required depending on how the body reacts. This has big time potential to be nagging...

I don't care about what Joyner has to say...ever. He's a misplaced accountant, not a football guy. I'll ask his opinion on W2's, not Cover 2.

I wouldn't fret at all if Portis missed opening weekend and Betts had to start in his place against Minnesota...

Now if he's out more.......
