View Full Version : Why is everyone comparing Taylor to Williams?

What's the deal with that? They play two different positions. Taylor is a free safety and Williams is a strong safety. A FS is more pass defense oriented and a strong safety is more run defense oriented. If there are comparisons it's A.A and Williams. Also while on the subject of Taylor vs. Williams, I believe that both are good players. Is that a crime? I would rather take Taylor over Williams but if Williams were a redskin I wouldn't mind it at all (as long as he stops horse tackling, that's a dirty tactic).

The other thread was solely about comparing, this is a different topic.

This is a bad thread...but I have to answer it. Let me be the one to state the obvious. Roy Williams plays for the cowboys, probably their best defensive player. Sean Taylor plays for the Redskins, arguably our best defensive player. Cowboys fans think their best defensive player is better than our best defensive player - they are knuckleheads.

A simple explaination for your question and a simple answer!

It's still preseason.Skins fans and Boys fans have to discuss something. That and it's a biannual event here on Extreme. Wouldn't be same without it

It's a fun topic. If you can't compare to similar players in the NFL to try and figure who is better, then what are we doing here on this board?

since it's still open...there is no comparison...Taylor is the better athlete, end of story !

was Williams a Lb or safety at Oklahoma?

I think he went there...was he real good or just with a good defense - just wondering why he was taken so high...

Edited.... I think Taylor is one of a kind and there is no comparison at his position. To be accurate, he plays both safety positions in GW's system. You can't lock him into a category. New thread not needed for this argument. ;)

What you say is true, however, we all know Sean Taylor could easily play SS and is used in a unique role where he often does play the strong safety "area & technique" and is used as the middle linebacker as well in many of the skins' nickel and dime formations.

Here let me answer the question. Williams is a damn good SS, but put him at FS and you have a liability. Taylor is a great FS and if you put him at SS, there would be no dropoff.

While they do play different positions now, last year was Williams' first year at SS. He had been FS his entire career before that because they had Darren Woodson at SS.

But the reason they are compared ad nauseum is because it is Skins vs Boys.

Yep. While the Cowboys had our number for a few years it gives me joy to know that it came at a time where, to be quite honest, we sucked and they sucked. Yes they had our number, but can someone tell me where it got them?

See, we choose to beat their ass when it has meaning and the '72 and '82 NFC championship games would be prime examples of this and dare I ask how much that comeback on MNF last year really came back to haunt them?

I still remember watching that game and seeing those Cowboy fans in the stands dancing and laughing when there was as little as six minutes left in the game. Well, we all know what happened then, don't we Cowboy fans?

You see, a rival is not a rival unless BOTH teams are good. Well, here we are guys and gals and the rival is back in full swing. Ain't it great? :point2sky :dallasuck
