SAT, 19 AUG 2006 -- Pre Season Games #2 -- Jets vs. Redskins
POLL: 3 Choices -- Why are Redskins players playing scared tonite? Is it to avoid injury?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A: Yes, the Chris Clemons RUTHLESS cut affect the players' psyches.
B: No, the Chris Clemons RUTHLESS cut has no affect of the players' performances on the field.
C: I have another theory. Let me explain it on my post below.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
- What do you all think?
After what had happened with Chris Clemons { who is suffering from injury } being ruthlessly cut by Greggo a few days ago... ...
- We had very poor tacklings from the Special Team players in this Jets game.
http://extremeskins.com/forums/images/smilies/whoknows.gif
- Are Redskins players playing scared to avoid injury?
Who know the players think "if I get hurt, then they will cut me the next day"?
Just my 2 http://extremeskins.com/forums/images/smilies/twocents.gif .

Can you blame them for not wanting to get hurt in the preseason? Honestly, I dont know that I can, especially the guys who are allreay going to make the team.

I don't think Clemons would have beaten out Jeff Posey if he had been healthy. The two events, Clemons' injury and the Bills cutting Posey, happened to occur the same week but again I don't think the coaches were confident that Chris had nailed the backup job behind Marcus Washington.
When you consider that Posey can backup at MLB as well, I think that put Clemons as well as potential backup MLBs like Simon and Havner in trouble.

:2cents:
I pick choice (A). Because the Chris Clemons ruthless cut did affect players psyches big time.
Especially, the second line players (FAs) who are not sure if they will make the team.
That's why we have very poor tacklings.

Question BIGJoeSalave'a. Are you basing this on what you hear, read? or what you see. If the answer is one of the first 2 or both, then the validity of your assumption that this poll is based on is highly questionable. Then I'd recommend TK's answer and maybe some Vailum.

I can only hear and read. I don't have the benefit of seeing the game. Based on what I hear the tacklings have been poor and the team got push around at the LoS. My 2 :2cents: .
That's why I have choice (C) on the poll. So other posters can explain the players' poor performances on the field.
Time of Posssesion Diff. Jets vs. Redskins = 33:06 vs. 17:42
Can anyone explain that and discuss the game without resorting to personal attacks?

My theory is that there is CO2 leaking into your room right now and it's causing you to be delusional. They gave Clemons an injury severance package that I am sure was more than fair and there is always the possibility of picking him back up after he heals. Why would you lend such importance to the cutting of our 3rd string WLB? Like I ended my last response to you BigJoe: :stfu:
That's my theory.

Let me clarify something. Its not a personal attack to point out that a member's posts lack logic or make no sense. You start threads, your arguments are fair game. If you don't want to be challenged, don't start threads.
This is a football messageboard. You are welcome here - sincerely. However, you're accountable for what you post. Whether folks find it agreeable or nonsense is up to them.

Then my response stands. You are basing your assumption that players are playing scared on what you read, ( Make that some), and heard. No way you can accurately make this assumption without actually seeing things for yourself. And even then that is a bit of a reach since you have to know what your seeing, ( not personal. Most of us don't know entirely what we're seeing), is based on fear or just guys who still need work on things. Seems to me you're a little miffed about Clemons being cut and trying to tie that into some of the play tonight. That's a pretty good reach right there as well.

Coach Gibbs seems to be seething with boiling anger.
What have caused the whole team to play poorly?
The Jets is a rebuilding team.
The Jets are not world beater by any measurement.

Give me a break. Clemons was a "pass-rushing specialist" with 16 tackles and 5 sacks in two years.
Posey has 126 tackles and 4 sacks in those same two years plus heaps more experience.
Anybody that thinks Clemons was tossed to the curb because of an injury is deluding themselves. Williams and company know how good Posey is and they went out and got him. The reason Clemons is gone is because they felt much more comfortable with a guy who is better.
The Clemons cut was anything but "RUTHLESS" as you put it. Instead it was a very wise decision that helps the team.

I have a feeling that McCune, McIntosh, Posey, Simon and Havner would have something to say about that - I bet they feel they've earned their positions.
Lets not act like Chris wasn't already on the chopping block - because he was.

I agree. I think Portis comments earlier in the week about "meaningless games" MAY have affected the way the players are approaching these games.
One thing I did notice tonight, and I noticed it last week also. No matter how bad things seem to be going, Mark Brunell always seems to have a huge smile on his face. It's a smile that almost reads "I know something you don't!" Anybody else pick up on this?

Must we do another stupid thread where we phrase our words so that no matter which choice we pick, we make it sound like there really is something wrong with the Redskins FO/Coaching Staff/Players.
How about actually doing a poll that lets us honestly express our opinions. Unless honesty scares you.
"Ruthless" cut? He was going to be out for almost the whole season, occupying a roster slot for a need position. He was a PRACTICE squad guy that made the team on his ability to rush the passer, sometimes, on third downs. We signed a big name DE, and now have a ton of third down pass rushers. He had not played well at LB when not rushing the passer and had failed to beat out many players fans thought were just, bad(Holdman for instance).
Ruthless? More like, obvious. What had Clemons EVER done to warrant anything?

The Clemons cut was anything but "RUTHLESS" as you put it. Instead it was a very wise decision that helps the team.
Here is the problem.
There are plenty of roster spots (around 93?) at this moment.
Why do you have to cut Clemons the next day after he got injured?
Why not wait for a few weeks before you cut Chris Clemons?
There are plenty other non-critical players who do not have much history with the Redskins. They can be cut first to make a roster spot for Jeff Posey.
- This way if you cut Chris Clemons at 2 weeks later, the move will not be perceived as "RUTHLESS" by the other players who are still on the roster.
Thus, the remaining players can play hard without worrying about getting injuries and then get cut the next day.
Tell me if the above makes sense or not?
The word "RUTHLESS" was used by the Diesel Riggo himself and Bram Weinstein which you can hear every time you tune in to TripleX radio.
What do you say to the Diesel and Weinstein for their choice of word "RUTHLESS"?

Playing scared??...
You may not agree, especially when the idea is a controversial one.
Yes, I think some of those players who are on the bubble, they might play scared.
:whoknows:
They were scared of getting injured and then have to be cut the next day, just like Chris Clemons. They may be thinking if someone like Chris Clemons can be cut just like that, then so can they too be cut as ruthlessly.
Keyword = some players who are on the bubble
Btw, if I am not mistaken, I picked up the word "Ruthlessly" from Bram Weinstein and the Diesel Riggo.

It's an interesting style you're developing here Sean. I'm curious, do you interact with strangers in the real world as you are want to here?
Or do you just have something against those from Canada?
A little respect for others here looks in order.

I think the whole problem that I have is I dont see it as "RUTHLESS". Can someone help me out here? Clemons wasnt the first to be cut for an injury, he got a settlement and I didnt really see anyone bashing him afterwards. What am I missing here? And frankly, if they were "scared" wouldnt they play HARDER? I'm so CoNfUsEd....

A little respect for others here looks in order.I don't interact with strangers. I live in an underground layer with millions of squirrels where I am plotting my eventual takeover of the world, one nut at a time.
As for Candaians, I don't care for them...except for Art(Art is NOT actually from Canada). They are friendly, polite and generally good-natured. That makes me angry. I like miserable, irritable people who yell and curse. Also, I hate people who mispronounce the word "about".

P.S. You should read the totallity of BIGJoes post's to find a general misinterpretation of reality and an often negative spin on otherwise meaningless information.
