Does he sound out of it? I mean, he's not reasoning logically. For example, he said Todd Collins spent the entire off-season learing the new Al Saunder's offense. :twitch: The host talked to him about the 1982 team that lost all of its preseason games. The first game was against Miami and Dexter said he remembered the game because "we beat them in the Super Bowl last year, etc., etc." We did not beat Miami in the SB in 1981. We beat them that year in the SB. What is he thinking?

A caller just called in and Dexter totally forgot his train of thought mid-sentence. Maybe he's just not good on a live radio program. I'm sure I'd freeze up a bit.

Anyone notice these things?

Did'nt he have some sort of brain surgery not to long ago?

LOL actually yeah he did... Might not have been the best choice.... I liked Charles Mann better last year... he's got a good voice for radio and he's well spoken.

Give Dex a break. He had surgery recently and has never been overly articulate to begin with. He's still a great ex-Skin and he can give you a great perspective.

Poor Dex should not be on there and the clown they have with him is not very good either.

Yeah, he was definitely struggling to recount some stories about Gibbs and preseason, namely one about Gibbs asking him to play tough against a Miami tackle in a preseason game. He kept pausing during the sentences, almost like he was trying to remember the rest of what he was saying. Kind of sad really.

Geez..He's not that bad. And the guy who lost his train of thought was a frickin' Jets fan that called in not Dexter. That Jets fan took about 5 minutes to say nothing, and made mistakes doing that

Hey didn't Kornheiser suck this week too (after his 1st time)? Give him a break. I am sure that we would all choke somewhat if we had a mic in our face

It'll be tough deciding who to listen to after the games this year. I like the guy on Triple X (is it Kevin Sheehan, the same guy who used to be on 980 after Pollin?), although Pollin does a decent job on the Skins post-gamers on WTEM. However, I think I'll stick with 980 because Jacoby (if he remains) can be annoying but is listenable. Manley has been through a lot, but I'm not sure if he's cut out for the radio role. Its rather painful to listen to him.

And for the person who mentioned Charles Mann......he may be well spoken, but his post-game show on 106.7 was god-awful boring!!!!

The new beat reporter for WTEM Jerry Coleman is a total tool. I will not listen because of him. He couldn't even make it in B-more, now WTEM hired him?? pretty sad

Interesting. Wonder who, if anyone, will sit with Andy Polley on 980's post gamers. Andy usually annoys me, but he's not too bad to listen to after the game.....gotta have something to do while sitting in Beltway traffic on the way home from FedEx.

I much prefer Mann to Manley -- tonight was just terrible. But he has an excuse -- let the man rest and recuperate from brain surgery for Pete's sake!

I can't believe he's even doing the show (or should I say Dan sought him out to do the show)...

Man after hearing 30 minutes or so of Dex, I just wanted to give the guy a hug.

He sacrificed his life for the Redskins - I hope he knows what a favorite player he is to so many of us.

I hope you keep getting better Dexter. You and Charles Mann were the reason I wanted to be a defensive end.:point2sky :logo: :helmet:

BTW where is Charles Mann? I thought he was great last year on the post game. Real objective and critical of the coaches even during the good times - but in a way that didn't sound like the normal BS.

But he never has much to say. I always get the feeling he's more concerned about how he sounds than what he's saying. Articulation isn't worth much without analysis in the radio postgame world.

I can't believe some people are being so critical of Dex's radio performance. After all he's been through, just for him to be out of prison and out of the hospital is a pretty major victory. Cut him some slack.

At his peak, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more beloved Redskin. We should be happy he's still around and able to even consider appearing on the radio.

For all the critics, walk in, and express your dismay with Dexter after having introduced yourself as Roger Staubach.

Listening to Dexter try to talk on the radio was like listening to the John Thompson show. I have tremendous respect for both of them, but they just aren't meant for Radio, sorry. It was embarassing.

The point is he shouldn't be doing a radio show to begin with!

I laughed when the other host (forget his name) asked Dexter for his predictions of the season and Manley answered "probably 12-3"...just to be corrected by clarifying what he meant "so you're thinking either 12-4 or 13-3, because its a 16 game season"...To which Manley responded something along the lines of "I'm confused, explain that to me again?"

A guy who had recent brain surgery does not make for good radio.

I can understand the notion that maybe he shouldn't be on the radio in light of his troubles...but people in this thread have bashed him without even acknowledging what he's been through. I don't think that's right.

You must not of heard it...

I blame the programers- they had no business throwing him out there like that in the condition his recent circumstances obviously left him in. They had to be cringing more than any of us listeners were at what was happening to their broadcast. It was sad and out of respect for the guy I turned it off after the interviewer had to keep finishing his sentences for him.

I just hope Gary Hogeboom has as much trouble being articulate -GO DEX!

Can XXX ESPN be for real, with Dexter Manley on the post game show?
Where is Ken Mease and Charles Mann. Manley was absolutely the worst radio host I have ever heard, the skins cant be serious about this.

Dexter just had BRAIN surgery for gosh sakes!!!!!! He wasn't particularly very articulate to begin with, but I give him a lot of credit for getting in there and giving it a go.... He didn't sound all that with it a couple of afternoons ago on the John Riggins show, but I think the Redskins and the radio guys are giving him the respect that he's due. A lot of Dexter's problems were self induced, obviously, but he has made great strides to redeem himself over the last few years.

Please cut him a little slack!

what is the deal with this new radio station. Worse that Dexter's performance was the fact the radio station actually phased out the closer I got to the stadium. I could barely make it out from the wilson bridge toward the stadium. it is much weaker than the previous channel.

Sure, Manley's tripping up was noticeable, but I still enjoyed listening to him. With all he's been through, personally, and for this team, I liked hearing fans call up and tell him how much they still love and respect him; and he seemed to enjoy it... so great.

Also, not to conjure up more Lavar talk, but he definately called-out Lavar, i.e. not fitting into the system, or not valuing the team enough (definately paraphrasing here). And it ticked me off like it was yesterday, when he talked about Ditka saying he had the "I.Q. of a grapefruit". That's pretty classless.

I thought that Kevin whats-his-name also did a pretty good job of roping it all back in when he needed to. I'm glad Dexter's still around for us to enjoy every once in awhile.

I just want to state for the record that I had no idea Dexter had brain surgery. I purposely worded my opening comments carefully so as not to appear overly critical. I was simply making comment on what I heard. Certainly Dexter has reasons for sounding like he did and I wish him the best.

While we are on radio talk here.......Kinda of same subject, but Sam Huff sounded like something was wrong with him the other night during the game. Is he getting over some kind of illness or something as well????
