View Full Version : Local TV Broadcast maybe worst ever

The game aside, the broadcast with John Riggins and Mike Patrick was the worst tv coverage of a game I have ever experienced. Worse than Jerry Glandville on Fox. Worse than George Michael on NBC4 - where he blatently didn't even try and get the names of the players correct.
Riggins must have plugged his radio show 20 times. There were 0 injury updates and they didn't even attempt to use Brett Haber or anyone else with CBS9 as a sideline reporter seeing that they had none themselves.
Just when that got disgusting, they start wondering aloud why the officials haven't started back the game and then the Referee announces that after further review, the play stands as called - fumble to the Jets. They completely missed a coaches challenge.
Also, the video graphics kept on showing the yellow Flag id to indicate a penalty on the field even though for most of the plays there were no infractions.
I watch on DirecTV and since it is satellite, there is a 2 second delay between what I would hear on the radio and what I would see on the TV, so to avoid that annoyance, I just follow the TV broadcast. Next week I will just deal with the delay.

If you have TIVO just pause it for a few seconds so it can match with the TV broadcast.

I have to agree with much of this. Also, the cameras got fooled on play action way too many times. Replay choices were crappy.
Riggo's pretty good though, aside from the constant plugging of the John Riggins Show.

They weren't great, but come on, they certainly were better than George Michael. He was by far the absolute worst play by play guy. His arrogance to think he was capable of doing it knows no bounds.
Still better than the Triple Crap non radio junk we're not getting.
I am going to continue to repeat this until I'm blue in the face.
The WASHINGTON Redskins cannot be heard in WASHINGTON DC on the local radio. This cannot be allowed to continue to slide.
And please, no it's a free stream crap. First, it should be free since it's not on the radio. Second, there is a 30 second delay which makes it unlistenable and 3rd some of us don't have the computer in the same room as our large screen TV that we ordinarily would like to watch the game on so listening to the stream (even if it were in sync) and watching the game can't happen.
I know it sounds like bellyaching here, but I can't be the only one out there who can't believe they've done this. 730AM literally disappears right when the game goes on at 8pm and for the rest of the day the signal is mediocre at best.
Until they fix this, I'm no longer listening to Redskins "Radio". I'd rather try and deal with the crap announcers that are on the TV broadcast.

GM was horrible as a play by play guy, but Sonny made up for some of it and they did try and get updates on key player injuries.
Riggins has always seemed to be anti-establishment. To see him sell out so easily was nausiating.

It's definitely a problem they need to resolve. Three stations, but still they can't cover the DC area with a strong enough signal.

Man, the plugs were getting old. This crew is definitely better than George Michael last year.

How many times did we hear this??

Would that work since his Direct TV is already behind? Its not like he can forward his DTV forward in their records so that it can match up with the radio.
And I too was disappointed. I love Mike Patrick, but the commentary just seemed lacking today. Damn you Riggo.

I agree that the TV commentary sucked, but it was better than the 3 radio stations I was unable to get at the stadium tonight, so I suffered through it on my walkman while watching the game. I know I'm not the only person who likes to listen to the game while in the stands - why have the radio stations if we can't get them in?!?

I'm glad I was at the game and forgot to record it. The ribs were great. :D

I was on the road last night and on 66 and the beltway couldn't get the game on any of the radio stations. I'd get it to come in clearly for about 5 seconds, then lose it...switch to another station, then lose it. I couldn't keep a good signal for more than about 10 seconds at a time. And when I say 'good' I don't mean crystal clear. I just mean somewhat audible.

I think Riggins should be added to the poll of the worst color commentators. He plugged xxx radio countless times, and he talked over whoever that guy was that was with him. He needs to learn when to pick his times to talk, and when to stop talking!

I agree, terrible broadcast. Also, why cant comcast use a smaller graphic for the scoreboard on the top of the screen. There is about a 1 inch area above any actual information that is blacked out and completely useless. It makes everything looked cramped...they really need to fix this...I was watching in HD so I dont know if its like this on the stadard def broadcast but it is awful on the HD...

No, that won't work. It will just put the broadcast more behind. It's the TV that's behind, not the radio. If you could pause the radio, then you'd be in business. I know, I'm in the same situation.
At least the radio is better than the stream on the Internet. That's like 30 seconds behind. So on that, you could pause the tv and keep up with the broadcast, but it's just too far behind. You find out what happens on the Game Thread long before you see it. Just doesn't work for me.
Regarding the broadcast, I didn't think it was quite that bad, though they did botch the coaches replay call and didn't update injuries well, and Riggo kept plugging his show, and there were no sideline repor - wait, okay, maybe it was that bad.

I have not read any of the posts in this thread yet only because I want my thoughts to be pure...
That SUCKED BALLS!!!
The only thing I learned from that broadcast is that Riggo will always be an idiot and I will NEVER listen to his damn radio show...

Glandville didn't try and plug his own agenda. I would rather have an over eager idiot talking about weird stuff then a former great who was known for going against the grain, selling out and doing so with overkill

It was obvious that Riggo was oblivious to all the Jesse Lumsden hype on many of the Extremeskins threads. Did anyone else catch Riggo trying to guess where Lumsden's school was? Neither announcer knew his school was in Canada until someone else told him.

What is the big deal? I thought Riggins was great, and so what if he plugged his show?
No injury updates didn;t ahve much to do with Riggins, it had to do with the whole set up. I thought the color commentary was...colorful...

It was bad, but I don't know if it was that bad. I think I've probably seen worse from the national boradcasts. Besides we should be happy that we get to watch the game at all...lol. Not everyone has that luxory, before last season almost noone outside of the area got to watch Redskins preseason games without borrowing a tape or something.
That said, yeah I guess they could certainly improve on stuff. Especially during that challenge where they never said what was going on for a few minutes.

Yeah that was pretty bad. Not paying attention to plays, cameras watching things OTHER than the action, sound going in and out, 1st and 10 being read as 4th and 10... CBS is just bad.

I thought it was pretty typical of the poor quality local broadcasts that I (we) have suffered through for the past several years. I agree that Riggins was annoying beyond measure with the constant plugs of his radio show. I liked him when he was on Sirius radio, and I like his radio show, but the on-air stuff on the TV broadcast was horrible. Mike Patrick was OK, but there is no excuse for the amateur cameras and Riggo's annoying plugs. Can't wait for real broadcasters during the regular season.

Yeah I said several times that they were horrible.... i heard them say a lot of things that were incorrect... and i also heard them pronounce a few names wrong too... it seemed to me like they werent really paying attention very good... they needed to watch the game more and talk about the on field things before worrying about his radio show... hahaha... but hey Riggo is the man cant hate on him....

As a new football watcher, I listen to whatever the announcers have to say in hopes of learning more about the game even when they're really annoying. Well, this was so bad I MUTED the @#$&* thing.:mad::mad:
