this a a joke thread

but your thoughts about not needing Duckett are completely a false assumption

Gibbs will use Duckett to save wear and tear on Portis in short yardage, and in running out the clock when we have a lead in the fourth

Betts will still be used as a 3rd down back, catching passes, change of pace, KR etc...

Portis took a beating late in the season and was hurt in the playoffs, this will keep him fresher, plus with his shoulder scare, Gibbs didn't want to risk further injury. and if one back goes down we are still in good shape.

Just look at what happened to Westbrook last season, more carries, more times getting pounded, risk of injury

Not really. For the record, I think the Redskins are probably the favorites to win the division this year--and for good reason, but I really do NOT like this move. Maybe it will pay off well, and I do commend Snyder's willingness to spend what it takes, but I think building through the draft is paramount, and giving up at least a first day pick for a short yardage back when you already have Portis and Betts is superflous and borderline moronic.

worked for Gibbs in 91, and if keeps Portis healthy all season well worth it

What's moronic is a front office that passes on LenDale White for a tackle they don't need this season, lets Walker go to the Bronco's, and Barrow to the Jets and now Lelie & Duckett

when they have a huge need for play makers on their team, Westbrook is already gimpy , and has real backup, much less a big back to take some punishment. McNabb has a group of #2 & #3 wr, and no real HR hitter #1 WR

The had a chance at all, but went cheap, and wouldn't make the deal

and Yes the eagles were one of the teams wanting Duckett, and wanting Lelie. They had Walker in Philly, and he snuck out to go to Denver to talk with them.

First--after this season either Runyan or Thomas will be gone...possibly both, and for a coach that preaches dominance on the lines is key, having a replacement who they viewed as top 15 material, is crucial.

Second, you say the Eagles need playmakers. Which available player is a playmaker? Certainly neither Duckett nor Barlow would qualify (I'd much rather have Moats than Barlow), and if we're speaking of big backs here, why in the world would I give up a 3rd and 4th for Duckett when someone like Jonathan Wells or Stephen Davis can be brought in and fill largely the same role in the Eagles scheme? The Eagles are never going to pound the ball--having Duckett or someone of the sort would be nice for goaline situations, but you can get a 'big' back without paying near the price the Redskins did (and note, this isn't a financial issue, it's about the value of a 3rd and 4th being > than Duckett).

Third, I was indifferent to getting Lelie. Lelie is a player with potential who would fill a nice role on the Eagles as the #2 'big play' WR, but again, the Broncos were able to net what the Redskins were willing to give for Lelie. Would the Eagles have given a 3rd and 4th for him? No. Would I have wanted them to? Certainly not.

Walker would have been a good player to add and it was clear the Eagles were willing to give a 2nd up for him, but were unlucky that the Broncos had a higher 2nd to offer. Certainly you couldn't justify giving a first for Javon.

As for your last statement, there is no basis for the comment the Eagles wanted Duckett. Can you link any substantiated reports please? Walker didn't sneak out to see Denver--that's simply not true. GB CHOSE to trade Walker. Walker didn't have any input in the situation. He wasn't a FA, so I'd appreciate it if you don't act like he was. Next, as stated previously, I think the Eagles probably did have interest in Lelie, but weren't willing to trade two picks for him.

Spin spin spin away

are you seriously trying to tell me Stephen Davis with his age and knee problems is a better options than TJ Duckett whose 25 and has 31 rushing TDs, 121 FD in 55 games played? I have heard reports that Philly was interested in Duckett several places when ever Ducketts name came as trade bait... if they are considering davis... don't think they were interested in Duckett.

Ducket getting more carries than in Atlanta, and taking the wear and tear off Westbrook in short yardage and late in a game milk a lead.... right! that's not a play maker

Spare me the Moats love, he has been a disappointment so far, and I saw him play against the Ravens, unimpresssive, and had a big unforced fumble

and Yes Walker snuck out of Philly,That was widely reported, they (eagles) were determined to keep him in Philly to workout a deal... but Walker left during the middle of the night to talk to Denver, without the eagles knowledge. The contract was the major factor in getting a trade done with GB. Walker was free to talk with any team to make a trade... he wasn't forced to go to Denver....Denver got the deal done with Walker then the trade was made with GB...

Lelie didn't go for two picks, most reports say only a third, but a couple say, maybe a swap in position in another round.

Oh yeah, a tackle you don't need for a year or two is more valuable than a RB you need this year... makes sense

there are no tackles available next years draft, or in FA... sorry forgot, no FA for philly :)

Says the spinmaster himself. Qualifying Moats as a disappointment is a joke. While filling in for Westbrook last year Moats averaged 6 ypc. He played poorly in one preseason game and he's a disappointment?

Next, try not to misquote me please. I didn't say that Davis was an upgrade over Duckett. What I said was I'd rather have Davis than Duckett if I had to give up a 3rd and a 4th to get him. I stand by that statement, especially with how the Eagles would use either of them.

Walker didn't sneak out of Philly. He didn't chose to go to Denver either. Denver offered more than Philly. Hence, Denver got him. GB didn't need to trade Walker to whatever team had a contract worked out. GB's only interest was in getting the maximum return for Walker. Please provide links instead of random unverified verbatim next time you want to make these claims.

There is no spin here, and I will continue to stand by everything I stated. I'm not shy about giving Redskins props when its deserved, but I really think the Redskins made a terrible, terrible, trade, and I find it amusing you are acting like you somehow weakened the Eagles by doing it. Please, make trades like this in the future. I support them completely.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what to make of the move either. I think they overpaid for somebody they didn't need. I was just giving you a hard time because the Eagles have needs, and have fallen flat almost every single time they've wanted somebody this offseason. Meanwhile, the Skins are trading for superfluous additions.

The Eagles were interested in Lelie. I'm not sure about Duckett, but with their WR situation, no way they weren't at least intrigued by Lelie. I don't think Lelie is anything special though, so the Iggs didn't miss out IMO.

Oh, I think the Eagles were definitely interested in Lelie--I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying the Eagles weren't going to give up a 3rd and 4th for him (which is what the Broncos got here). I certainly think there are times the Eagles should spend more $$ in FA, or take more gambles, but not wanting to give up 2 draft picks for Lelie has nothing to do with being cheap. The Eagles weren't (and shouldn't IMO) going to give up more for Lelie than the Skins did for Duckett. Maybe it will work out very well, and I think Duckett is a 'nice' player who fits a specific role on teams--I'm just not convinced that role is worth what the Skins gave up.

See, my stance on the issue is this: I think the Redskins are often unfairly maligned for signing too many FA to too pricey of deals. I have heard for years that the deals would eventually put them in cap hell. Clearly, this isn't the case, and I wish the Eagles would be more active in FA from year to year. I support Snyder's methods in this instance. Yet, I still think it's foolish to trade away picks every year. It's nice to target FA players and woo them with big contracts. This isn't detrimental to the future of the team, as the SKins have found a way to get around the cap. However, the "price" (here it isn't monetary) of acquiring players via trade like the Skins often do, I think can be too great. I think Duckett will have to do quite a bit in Washington to justify the price that was paid.

Remember -- if the Skins end up with a worse record than the Broncos they only get the 3rd round pick and then swap first rounders. I think this is the more likely scenario, personally. I can see the Skins finishing anywhere from 10-6 to 12-4 and the Donkeys finishing anywhere from 11-5 to 13-3. There's a good chance that they'll finish with a better record. :2cents:

We'll still have to give up the third, but we'll retain our 4th and get a slightly worse 1st rounder. And chances are we'll probably trade it anyway, so it doesn't matter! :silly:

Eagles_Legendz
August-23rd-2006, 01:44 AM
Well, I was assuming best case scenario for the Redskins (which is giving up the 4th). Unless there is only a one pick difference, I'm fairly certain that according to the draft value charts, swapping first round picks is far more costly than throwing in a 4th.

The good news with the 1st rd swap is that I think the Skins are the team that has the lowest floor this year, which is why they are the safe pick to win the division. They are the team that I am most certain I know what to expect from. I can see any team finish first in the division, but I can't see the Skins finish last--if that makes any sense--so swapping first rounders shouldn't be too great a disaster if it occurs.

What a concept! Pay the player more than another team will, and they will come to your team. I know it's hard to comprehend, but it's the economy of the NFL. But I'm sure Pinkston and Reggie Brown will be sufficient to equal and possibly even improve the Eagles 0-6 division record from last year.

You know you're an Eagles fan when you're so green (no pun intended) with envy that you have to come to opposing teams message boards to talk **** to make yourselves feel better that you don't have any Lombardi trophies. And in doing so...

1. Make stupid jokes in an effort to make fun of a superior franchise.

2. Use poor grammar to the point where the posts are illegible.

3. Further the notion that Eagles fans are a whiney bunch.

4. Aren't doing what you're supposed to be doing, which is spoonfeeding Who Del his comfort food.

5. Show that Eagles fans don't have a sense of humor.

Hey zoony, mind reading a few pages back in the thread? I wasn't the one who started this. I responded in a very similar fashion to a post that stated that the Eagles weren't suprised the team didn't trade for someone, with a post like that about the Redskins. One line, that is all. It was Bubba who felt the need to expand it to a paragraph long debate. It wasn't my intention to hijack the thread.

tr, sure the Eagles had the cash to spend on Walker. Often, I wish the Eagles would spend more. But with Walker, I don't think that was the issue. The Eagles weren't willing to give up a first round pick for him (which is what they would have needed to do to best Denver's offer). Do you think they should have given away the 13th pick?

Let me ask you this question: How does building through the draft help the Iggles? Cause last time I checked the Iggles still are one of few teams without one of those beautiful silver trophies.

The Redskins do build through the draft...........other teams' draft. Just take a look at the players we have aquired recently under HOF head Coach Joe Gibbs.

Moss, Portis, Washington, Lloyd, Randle El, Duckett, Rumph, Carter. These are all young guys who established themselves in the NFL and came to the Skins for their second contracts. FA when done right is better than the draft IMO.

Now on the thread topic.

- Your uniforms are bought at the Salvation Army.
- You have to participate in the team car wash to fund away game transportation.
- Practice squad players work concessions during the game.
- The offseason workout program doubles as running the electric in the building. (ie ESPN Lance Armstrong commercial)
- At the end of the year awards ceremony, the trophies come with bills.
- All paychecks are subject to a $0.25 paper fee.
- You get fined for making too much money.
