I hope he has good news about his rehab and doens't dwell on why the pre season is too long...it's 4 games and there is no way that will change anytime soon. I'd like to hear a spin on how they aren't too worried about the past 2 games...I just need something to make me feeling all googly inside and warm.

Just showed a clip of him saying "I don't care what they do in the preseason, I'm just sayin...why was I in the game?"

Portis needs to stop.. nothing like giving the league more reasons to hate the redskins.. complaining about preseason and it needs to change and questioning them why he can't do cartwheels in the endzone and Chad Johnson "Where ya at 85" can't use props after he scores..
I really hope Portis does not turn into a disgruntled Lavar with the Redskins..
Let your game talk for you, not your mouth Portis.

yes it would have, it could have given the QB's 2 more weeks to work with the line and receivers and such, and that throw might not have ever been thrown. Gibbs does not like his team airing dirty laundry in the press. I could point to many instances over his tenure as a head coach. Ask our fellow 56 in NY most recently.
Portis made his point after the game..let Gene Upshaw handle the preseason game issue.. that is what he is there for.. the players.

Very true. It sounds more like Portis is releasing a frustration that he's had for a while. He isnt pointing the blame on anyone, instead he's just saying that he has a concern and he's an example of why it should be a different way

But when Lavar released his frusterations he was a ME ME ME player.
When Portis does it, he's just voicing his concerns.

yeah i know what you mean, but you have to realize, Lavar was looking for more money, or for something better for him...he didnt hurt himself playing 100%. Portis is voicing a concern that the majority of the league agrees with. he's upset because he is about the team and he feels like the team is hurt because he's not on the field. Lavar didnt want to play for this team, Portis does. Portis is about the team, not the Portis

The coaches can change this... not Portis.. The coaches feel that they need the preseason and want to play their starters.. Do you think that the NFL forces the coaches to play their starters? No.
At any rate, I just feel Portis should handle this through another avenue.

I have to agree that Gibbs doesn't like this type behavior, nor does Snyder. I really like Portis, and would hate to see him go the rout of Brian Mitchell, who had a habit of running his mouth in public. I't didn't help his case when the time came.
The other thing that bothers me is Portis saying "why was I in the game". I don't care who the player is, everybody needs real game action to get ready for the regular season. If he ever mans up and says, I screwed up by going that hard in a meaningless game, I'll feel a lot better about him.

But it definitely rubs me the wrong way that 8 days later we're still hearing about why he shouldn't have to play in the preseason. Like Pete said, if he would just man up and be like "I should have known better" than to hit a guy like that, I'd feel a lot better about it.

well i think he was more on reaction then on thought. But he was just put in a situation where he made a play and got hurt. He was on the field and it happens...i feel ya, it's gettin kinda frustrating that the guy is going to be pissed because he went all out and he got hurt. I have to disagree here. The injury has nothing to do with his condition, or ammount of training. He could sit the entire preseason, and make a hit like that and still have the sublux happen. It's called dumb luck. It has to do with the angle he hit, and his volocity more then anything else.

This is going to be a complete non-issue in exactly three weeks time. Sure Portis might not be ready then, but the team(and Sportscenter)will have a few slightly more important things to worry about. I don't see the preseason issue coming up again anywhere after September 3.

Yea, but CP has always given the real deal when answering questions from the press...
I think he was somewhat suckered into being controversial...
Eitherway, CP does need to realize that he was hurt on I think the 3rd down of that drive (or something damn close to that). It was something that could have happened any other time to any other person too. These things are possible in a contact sport.
He also needs to realize that THE PRESEASON IS *HELPING* HIM. If he didn't have these 3 weeks to recover, he'd be missing game days for sure.

I have to agree with what Alskins and Pete commented today. Portis should have kept what was said tonight to himself. Coach is probably furious right now. I hope this doesnt screw anything up with CP and JG's down the road.

Btw I have mixed emotions about Portis's comments so I won't comment, but damn, I HATE Adam Schefter ( that spelled right? )!!! He carries himself as being the god of football because he is an insider.

I think it's pretty clear that CP needs to shut the F*** up. S**t happens, and he's playing football, not water polo. The fact that he thinks he's too good to be out on the field w/ the rest of his teammates is a complete joke. If CP doesn't watch it, and keeps running his mouth, he might get the same treatment as Lavar.
It's completely shocking to me that players think they always know best?!?! These players are getting paid MEGA dollars to go out and play, not run their mouths. I understand being upset w/ getting injured in a preseason game, but saying "I shouldn't have been out there" makes me lose alot of respect for him. I didn't hear the interview, but he already said enough in the post-game interview. He doesn't need to do "give his opinion" anymore, and should focus on rehabbing.

I'm 100% with you and CP should understand that the reason he was in the game is because his coach put him in. In the real world that would be "his Boss told him to go to work." I agree to an extent. But it's a pretty well known fact that RB's don't need the preseason to get ready. Look at the Chargers and LT. They don't play him at all, because without him they aren't 1/2 the team they are now. Just like with the skins, they NEED Portis to be able to be successful. I guess in a way I could see it from both sides. I just think it's more out of fustration that he's talking than anything else though.

I'm 100% with you and CP should understand that the reason he was in the game is because his coach put him in. In the real world that would behis Boss told him to go to work." Message to Clinton, Shut-up. If you have a problem talk to the Coach, and then move on , get over it, you're not the first, nor the last. :helmet:
The interview became even more Lavar like for me when he continued to deny he was calling out Coach Gibbs by saying he shouldn't have been in the game.
Coach Gibbs put you in the game. If you continue to find cameras and state that you shouldn't have been in the game, you are calling out Coach Gibbs. You are saying that he was wrong and you aren't paying attention to him when he says point blank that you should have been in the game.

........... I just think it's more out of fustration that he's talking than anything else though.
....and that's what the problem is, he's talking. Talking about it outside of the closed doors at Redskin Park. Talking about it to no one that can do anything about it. I'm frustrated that he's hurt too but that 10 minutes that he spent airing his laundry on TV could've been 10 more minutes re-habing or studying film or just hanging out with TEAMmates. He needs to move foward and quit living in the Cincy game. I love CP as a player but right now I'm more disapointed with his attitude than the injury itself. :logo:

Ugh...
This interview made Clinton look SO bad. Oh- and SO dumb.
"Uuuhhh, Iono man. I jez think I shouldn't have ta be playin' yoo know? Why I gotta be in dere?"
He looked hungover and came off like a child. I'm very disappointed and karmically worried. Stick to the costumes, CP. The real deal is not what we hoped.

I agree to an extent. But it's a pretty well known fact that RB's don't need the preseason to get ready. Look at the Chargers and LT. They don't play him at all, because without him they aren't 1/2 the team they are now.
All the playoff games and Lombardi trophies that LT has hoisted up also prove your point.

That has nothing to do with nothing. The point he was making is that the Chargers RB is guaranteed to go into the season healthy and ours isn't. I'm on Portis' side on this issue.
And why do so many on this board want people to STFU when they don't agree with what they're saying? None of you know what this man is going through.

Well here's my point, since the lines are blurred.
MVP's- Peyton Manning, Shaun Alexander, Brett Favre, and Steve McNair have no problem playing in the preseaon. 3 time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady has no problem playing in the preseason, he dropped back to pass 20 times the other night.
Everyone of those players are just as important to their teams as CP and LT, yet I hear no crying, no complaining, no requests for special treatment. So is Gibbs to fault for Griffin spraining his knee? is Springs is out because of Gibbs? We had better bench the entire team until week one to aviod any other possible injuries that may surface from playing a contact sport. Side with CP and LT all you want the fact is there are players that are better then CP and LT that have no problem playing.

Was this really as negative as some of you are saying? If so, I'm genuinely surprised that we'd hear this out of a current Skin. Really makes me wonder about the TJ Duckett rumors...

As another poster said, he does have a point, and some of you Redskin fans need to understand that these players are mostly in agreement about the pre-season, and most matters that affect them. So stop thinking that every comment a player makes is a slash at the Redskins!!!!
You love the NFL because it is entertainment for you, but to the players it is much more, it's a job. Maybe a job that they love working, but still if he goes out and plays in a game that means nothing then gets hurt, do you think the good ol' Redskins as an organization will stop. NOPE!!!
I have MAJOR, MAJOR issues with this organization mainly the front office and how the mind set has trikkled down to the folks that work for the club, but Clinton Portis is real, and telling the truth just as others have. The problem comes in at when some of you folks think that someone is saying something negative about the skins. Come on people every player that has something to say isn't "crying" or being a drama queen!!! I was wondering who was going to be the next whipping boy of you folks on here. I think I might have found him!!!

It's not like we don't expect the players to complain, heck everyone does it. It is just the over dramatic and carrying on after the fact that rubs us the wrong way. He gets hurt and makes a comment or two after the game, fine heat of the moment. It's when the complaining continues days and weeks after the incident. It just makes the team and all that are associated with the team look bad, wither or not that was their intention. Just accept the role you are given and move forward as a team, focusing on one goal.....MIAMI!!!!

What you need to understand that playing in that game was something his boss asked him to do. He has a job to do, and it is to play as a Washington Redskin. Period. If he doesn't want to play in another preseason game, take it up with the boss. Don't air it out in public. Did I say Ports was a whipping boy? Absolutely not. There is nothing Portis can do to change the outcome of that game. He expressed his feelings at the end of the game. Enough. Let it go.
How many other head coaches are going to stop playing their starters in the preseason? I don't know, nor does anyone else. But it is up to the head coach, NOT the league. How is Portis whining on NFLNetwork about this going to help the Redskins. It is not.
Am I a Portis fan? Yes, absolutely. But enough is enough. He has expressed his issue, not once, but twice. All I am saying is that if he keeps this up, it will not bode well with the coach or the redskins organization.

Very true. It sounds more like Portis is releasing a frustration that he's had for a while. He isnt pointing the blame on anyone, instead he's just saying that he has a concern and he's an example of why it should be a different way
What was so different??? He is basically questioning Gibbs. Something that most of you think is the worst thing in the world. "Why was I in the game" Who do think that question goes to?
Now let him continue to have a point of view, and see if good ol' Danny stops putting him on the front of Redskins.com, and just wait and see what happens after that. You folks will see. Any one that has an opinion is damned!!!

Yeah, it sucks that he said those things. I guess, for the Skins fans, we all want CP to be the 2006 version of Riggo in terms of off the field antics and/or comments, but plays hard every Sunday.

Portis has got know better then to go on Total Access and say what he did. It does sound as if he did try to back peddle a bit by saying that he was not pointing the finger at Gibbs, However he still should have not gone on the show knowing that all they wanted was to hear him vent in to hope to stir up some controversy for their ratings.
The NFL is quit funny when you think about it. They don't like the touch down celebrations, but yet they do their best to create controversy for their ratings. It's almost to say if anyone is going to push the NFL ratings it is going to be us, the front office of the NFL and not the players. Pretty much it is an Ego trip.

Unfortunately, this is the way of the professional athlete. I'm not quite sure why they feel the need to voice their displeasure to the media, and can't seem to just keep the dirty laundry inhouse. In case they haven't learned, it doesn't help their cause in any way, shape, or form. However, I don't look at this as that big of a deal. We all know CP is a 'Skin through and through, and would never be a distraction in the lockerroom. I don't particularly care for his whining, but if Gibbs is going to let it pass, who am I to tell CP to shut up?

Hindsight is everything. If he didn't think he should have been in the game, he shouldn't have bum rushed for eight yards on his first carry. If he didn't think he should have been in the game, he wouldn't have tried to body-slam a guy running back an Int during the first pre-season game.
He should be questioning himself, but these guys are so privileged and treated like royalty from the moment they show any athletic acumen in High School. Why should he have played? Because it was a pre-season game learning a new offense. The injury could have just as easily come against Minnesota. Then what would he do?

good god, you all know that the only reason this is so prominent is because its the ONLY thing to talk about right now in the NFL...I honestly can't think of anything higher profile...
Regular season will curb that
P.S. - That interview could also be 4 or 5 days old. Don't think that it was live. For all we know, it was filmed the day after...

There are both sides to every story and actually I think that since the current day athletes stay in shape there shouldn't be 4 games that the 1st team plays in. I mean to me personally JG and the other coaches know who will be starting, I think that the first 2 games should be nothing but rookies and people trying to make the team, then the last 2 games are used as basically dress rehersals. Now I also understand that teams need time to gel when learning a new system but with all the off season work it shouldn't be that hard but I could be wrong. Football is an extreme hard sport and we all should remember that. I don't know but I surely wouldn't want a a freakish 300 pound man running a 4.6 40 coming after me and I would avoid games as well when it didn't count. Before we all jump over CP and start comparing him to LaVar let's remember he is a soldier and a very good blocking back and he gives his all EVERY PLAY.

Mine is not playing, you know what i need to Download for it to work? I have quicktime but its still not playing.
Also, although Portis running his mouth is not good for the redskins, it makes you think how bad his situation could be. If the doctor told him that he should be back for week one, and that there is some mild concern it could pop back out, i dont think he would act like this. Once he gets back on the field, he will be fine.
