If you were going to Fed Ex Field or any NFL stadium for a show, who gives you the best show?

Anyone who doesn't choose the Rolling Stones sucks. Sorry.

Yeah U2 probably puts on a hellacious show... but comparing either U2 or Stones to Dave freaking Matthews? Pleeeaseee.

It's good to be able to play a few DMB songs on guitar, just for the chicks... but other than that I mean come on! He's got no juevos.

The Stones about 30 years ago...

Then Dave about 10 years ago...

I have no real desire to see any of those bands as of right now.

U2

No other answer is appropriate.

While Bono isn't a madman on-stage and doesn't have the entertaining personality and talent of, say, Freddie Mercury no other frontman I've ever seen can take a stadium or arena and make you feel like you're watching a band in a club.

That's easy - Bruce Springsteen.

The Grateful Dead circa 1987-1995 blew any other stadium act off the stage. Though I did enjoy Pink Floyd at RFK in the early 90s. Smaller venues are so much better than stadiums, places like Merriweather Post Pavilion or the Hampton Coliseum but especially clubs like the State Theater in Falls Church or the Recher Theater in Towson. Little clubs are so much more intimate and you can get up close and personal. Do you really want to sit 100+ yards away from the band?

I know, I meant he is the best at making you feel like you're in a club instead of a 60,000 seat venue. :)

Rince has nailed it.

Oh, and Iron Maiden is the ultimate "stadium" band!

I'm still baffled that acts such as REO Speedwagon,Styx, and Journey filled 70,000 seat stadiums in the 80's.

Pink Floyd and Genesis light show works well outdoors. Some acts should not be in stadiums such as Live ,Depeche Mode and Green Day.

Never seen U2 or The Stones.

Seen DMB quite a few times. His shows are entertaining. Singing and dancing for two hours long while drunk or under the influence of herbal remedies. So much fun! :)

I saw them once in 2000. The main thing that bugged me about DMB live wasn't the band and those goofy noises he eeks out when he sings as much as it was watching all the goofy white college guys in fishing hats doing some stupid dance in-place that looked more like a seizure than dancing.

To be honest one of the best concerts I have been to is Billy Joel, the man can just play a piano.

Bon Jovi was good too.

Why the hate on Journey, they still rock :D

I have to disagree about Dave Matthews he was good 10 years ago, now he is a shell of himself.

Never seen DMB, and do not really like them, so cannot comment on their shows. Same with U2.

I saw the Stones in El Paso back in 94 (or 95, cannot remember), and the show was ok. My uncle is a die hard Stones fan, so he bought tickets for me, my ex-wife, cousins, etc. Nothing like watching a concert with a 1950's stag film running on the big screen with your very conservative aunt sitting next to you

Best outdoor rock concert I have seen in awhile was George Thorogood, opening up for the Steve Miller Band (who sucked) at Nissan Pavilion in 1998. No props, no explosions, no fancy lights - just great music and he really knows how to work an audience.

U2.

I'm not a huge Stones fan but I would imagine they were better 30 years ago. DMB will always give you your money's worth, but you have to take the music in to account here and U2 and the Stones are clearly better than just about anyone else mentioned in this thread so far.

I can say this DMB has great opening acts in stadiums. The Roots and Sanatana opened for them in Philly a few years ago.

U2, hands down. Maybe the Stones about 20 years ago.

I have never dug DMB. Saw them once at a festival show, and I appreciate the fact that they are all very talented musicians, but they are just boring to me.

well today - i would totally give U2 the nod over the Stones. True.

But all-time?

DMB...seen them many times and have never been dissapointed. Only seen U2 a couple of times, but I've been dissapointed both times. Never seen the stones and really don't plan on it.

So my vote goes to DMB.

KISS and Motley Crue put on the best shows I've ever seen. I've seen about a 1000 concerts. They work for the crowd. Dave Mathews is good if you like his music but I don't so I didn't like it ;p.

I agree with that. Iron Maiden and KISS were ther most entertaining concerts that I've ever been to. I've been to tons and tons of shows and they are the best IMO.
