On a more important note, the best thing about tonight was that there were no significant injuries.

One more game of that, and I'll be one happy camper.

On a side note, Jason Hatcher really looked good tonight.

Colman left the field under his own power.

He got knocked silly for a few minutes on a helmet to helmet with another Cowboy.

From what Ive heard, he'll be fine.

As for Hatcher, I think he had 2 sacks.

But the first one was against thier starting LT Jonas Jennings.

I started watching the cowboy game late, had it tivo'd, so I just finished a few minutes ago, then I went online to see the rest of the league scores.

HAHAHA.. You know, I really respect his homerism. I've traveled this world quite extensively, and never seen a homer like bubba. You have to respect it. I mean this guy could go 0-16 and find the silver lining in what would otherwise be a pretty dark cloud.

You just don't find fans like that. Seriously. Back when the cowboys were 1-16, I watched every minute of every game. I didn't care. They were my team, and I was with them through thick and thin. Bubba is the same way. He bleeds burgandy and gold, through and through. You just have to respect that. He couldn't spell fair weather fan, and I love that about him.

All of that said. That still doesn't mean I won't pick on him when his skins lose. But I don't think he'd have it any other way.

Based on the performances of both teams on the field in pre-season so far, the Cowboys is 3-0 and the Dallas Defense looked like all world and OTOH the Redskins is 0-3 and looked so inept, with the latest confirmation being blown out by the Pats for 41-zero.

Assuming that all players are healthy... ...

In todays NFL, anybody can beat anybody ANY weekend. Now I like my chances against you guys, but I don't care what team you root for, most football games come down to just a few crucial plays here or there that could easily go either way.

I'll leave it at that unless you're looking for a larger breakdown, which I would happily do.

Yes, now that you mention it, I think I've seen it before. I must admit, I like the loud and boisterous bubba better.

Don't even get me started about high school. I hung around the same buddies in school for 10 years, prior to 1991 (my graduation year) and for 10 years I took crap from all of them because I was a cowboy fan.

Then what happens after I graduate? 1992 1993, and 1995 we win rings. And my buddies are nowhere to be found to harass them. I'm still bitter about that.

CAN it happen? Of course! Everyone knows that the skins will play tough when the regular season starts. Anything can happen including Minnesota beating you guys in weak 1. Do I think it will happen? Honestly, no. While I don't buy into the skins being THIS bad, I do think there are a few slow leaks and causes for concern with your team right now. Dallas hasn't put one of the best players in the league, let alone our team, on the field yet. I just think we have an edge right now as I forecast week 2 but, of course, that's a ways away from now.

I agree. I know I've mentioned it, oh, I don't know....maybe a couple hundred time that it takes time to gel when you get a new O coordinator. As good as saunders is, and he is very good, it just takes time. What was it, 700 page playbook? It just takes time for an offense to digest a new system.

Thats one of the reasons dallas has the upper hand. bledsoe's second year in this system, and the Defenses second year in the 3-4.

We're just a better team right now.

I think you'll get it on track at some point. But it may be late in the year, and it may be too late. The biggest concern on you're team in Brunell. And its not even close. You're team has two problems. Depth everywhere, and brunell.

Here is my opinion why

You guys have to blitz to get any type of pressure on a QB. We now have a TE that already knows the system that will be playing basically the h back position. You LB will be forced to cover our two TE, Your corners are not good enough to consistantly cover TO and Glenn man on man.

Our defense is way better then it was last year, zimmer is alot more confident in the 3-4 scheme. We have done little to no blitzing this pre season and the defense has given up like 5.6 points per game. Our D-line is better then yours, our LB corp is far better then yours. Our corner and safties are on par with yours. Your WR are small and can be bumped off their routes easily and we have seen tonight you offensive line has some problems.

Also you guys brung in a bunch of new WR that are still trying to gel with Brunell and the other QB's and you guys underestimate the time it is going to take to learn Saunders system

Yes, of course. I think that all the teams in the NFC East are talented (even the Eagles) and that any team can beat any other team on any given Sunday. There aren't many teams I'd put big money on for an easy loss -- maybe teams like the Texans, the Jets, the Bills. Put it this way, do I think the Cowboys will beat the Redskins this season? Yes, I think they have a good team -- I'm not sure who's better but I don't think it's clearcut. Would I put BIG money the Cowboys beating the Skins and risk losing it? No way -- and I wouldn't put up money against the Giants or Eagles either. It's just too close to call. I'm encouraged by the play of the Cowboys this preseason -- by the starters and backups. But even if they were to blow out the Jags and the Skins got blown out by the Vikings, I wouldn't bank a win in week 2 against the Skins. I'd feel good about the Cowboys chances, but that's it. If the Cowboys go 7-0, then maybe I'd bet some money on the next game with the Redskins... Nah, probably not. At least it makes every week interesting.

Some small positives, but not enough to be smilling right now. Scores, stats, wins, loses, never mattered in Pre-Season. Performance does. Skins have plainly been out performed. Match ups, schemes, and techniques, all seem to have not been important so far. Hoe this changes 9/11......

Truthfully guy, I am really not worried about the Redskins. At all. God's honest truth.

Wait, yes I am. I'm worried about Portis and Springs and Griffin and Daniels. Yes, those injuries do worry me.

But preseason performance? Nope. Not one bit.

Here's what I said after we beat the 49ers 38-7 in a 2002 pre-season game:

The most important thing to take away from it is that noone got hurt. Be happy with that and don't sweat the rest of it until they start using real bullets.

I never get jazzed or bummed about how we play in the preseason. Never have.

You know why? Because it's worthless. That's not trash talk. It's a fact. A preseason win is worth exactly nothing. Are you actually going to try arguing that point with me? Do you secretly get some special award for beating someone in the preseason? Lemme know, because I never heard that.

Cowboy fans love to talk about how the Redskins are the offseason paper champions. Well, if that's the case, the Cowboys are definately the PREseason champions every year. You guys look sharp as hell in August. You did last year too.

Seriously, aren't you the LEAST bit wary of your offense AGAIN sputtering down the stretch, as it has every year Parcells has been coaching you guys? Or did that not even occur to you before you decided to waltz over here to bask in the glow of Cowboy superiority.

Either way, I didn't think you were better than that. :)

You haven't even admitted that NO and SF are bad teams.

They're pretty bad teams that we should and did dominate? What's your point? Seattle is pretty good. The Jets are also horrible!

You can't admit that your o-line is still a question mark.

Sure they're still a question mark. I do believe that they're coming together nicely and I'm encouraged from what I've seen thus far preseason or not. I think the demise of our o-line has been greatly blown out of proportion and playing with two TE's has helped the situation.

You know TO is a distraction.

He's very annoying and I grow tired of his antics but I don't think it's fair to say he's been a distraction to the team at this point. I'll hold my judgement until the regular season starts. I still think he can help us win ballgames.

You know without Flo you are done.

I wouldn't say done but, yes, we're definitely better with him in the line-up. Good point.

And you know Romo isn't ready for prime time.

Romo looks spectacular but he won't be starting.

But keep talking about the Skins...

I'll stop when you stop talking about the Cowboys.

You're not hearing things were not bad last night...

Ohh yes I am. Over 50% of this site is not concerned in the least with your performance last night. "Joe Gibbs does poorly in preseason" "Look at his past preseason records when we did well" "We're vanilla" "It's only preseason" "Look at Al-Saunders past preseason records" "We're hiding everything" "This is Joe's master plan" is what I'm hearing.

but I'd put as much weight in our bad play as an indicator of things to come, as the pukes 'sparkling' performances against inferior teams.

If you think it's all equal that's fine. What about your performance agains an inferior team AT HOME?

if you're happy about preseason, good for you

You're ecstatic about your OL, that didn't play against Winstom, or taputu (sp?).. or the Seahawk starters after a series or two... and the fact Romo avoided about 6 sure sacks for Bledsoe.. more power to you

and I know the Saints & 49ers scrubs are a true test for any OL, I know everyone of the 49ers DL are better than Big John Henderson

Frustrated? Nope. I learn from history...and Gibbs preseason history has told me to ignore it completely; it means less than nothing.

Yeah, well I guess you most hold on to something right? Well guess what, every preseason is different and I see a few glaring problems with your team. Maybe this will all be fixed in two weeks? So I take it that if you had won last nights game, or your offense demonstrated a pulse, or if you weren't dominated in all three phases soundly then you would not be on course with history huh? So in actuality, you probably feel BETTER about your getting dominated last night since it falls right in line with "history" right? I think I'm starting to follow.

Continue to get excited over executing on the worst team in the league.

We're in the preseason just like everyone else. It's preseason. We play our preseason schedule. I'll analyze our most recent preseason game just like every fan of every team except for redskins fans.. I have a question for you J-Rock. Did you even watch last nights preseason game? If so why? Why would any redskin fan even watch any preseason game? :) I suppose just to confirm that you're absolutely stinking up the joint in all aspects of the game staying on par with Gibbs "history."

I'm happy about sharp crisp execution, lack of mental mistakes, encouraging signs all around, developing a good #2 QB, developing sound depth and dominating inferior opponents WHILE STILL playing "vanilla" on both sides of the ball. You know, all the things you look for in the preseason. Since I can't predict the future, all I have to go on are camp/practice reports and preseason games. I'll evaluate the regular season when the time comes. What are you happy about Bubba? :( Wait a minute, I know. Gibbs always does well when his teams perform poorly from top to bottom in the preseason so your right on track right? Everyone starts with a clean slate in less than two weeks. 0-0!

I could care less who suits up for the opposition. This is football. Have you noticed anyone missing from our line-up? I'm evaluating MY team. You on the other hand, you should sleep well knowing that you have mighty "dirtbags" protecting Brunnell. *cough*overrated*cough*

Actually, no I didn't. The two usual places I go to watch preseason games weren't showing it because of the UFC fight (UFC is huge out here). Painfully enough, I had to switch between the Poke game and the Jaguars. Which is how I know how the Pokes faired against the worst team in the league.

My only point is that the Skins aren't playing these games to win.

No more worried about our offense struggling down the stretch this year than you should be with your offense struggling down the stretch last year.

The difference is, our offense looks good this year. Yours does not.

Seriously though. Put yourself in my postion for a second. I hear Redskin fan talk trash the entire offseason about Bledsoe, Romo, and our O-line. And what happens after the first 3 games? 2 sacks, 2 quarterback ratings over 120, and a first string offense that has scored on like 75% of their possesions.

All these games don't really matter, I'll give you that. But you can't tell me that being beaten the way you have in the last 3 games isn't the least bit worrysome. If you say it doesn't bother you a little, you are in the .00001 minority.

Minnesota won't be a pushover this year. And you have us in week two. With the level of execution so far, maybe you aren't panicking yet, but I bet Gibbs and company are. They just won't let on.

Remember, Gibbs came out last week and tried to fire up his troops, and look what he got back. 41-0 Something tells me they ain't listening to him.

Please elaborate.

It's basic execution. Brunnell is not looking confident, comfortable or crisp out there. It's blocking, basic execution and the fact that your 1st string defense is getting manhandled. It's also the pattern throughout the entire preseason. I also stated that you may correct these issues before the start of the season. Who knows?

Which is how I know how the Pokes faired against the worst team in the league.

Does it somehow make you feel better to continuosly state that the 49'ers are the worst team in the league? Do you really feel that I think we just won the SB? This just makes you sound really insecure IMO. :2cents: Not that it matters, but I'm willing to bet that the 9'ers improve this year. Norv Turner will get something out of Alex Smith, Frank Gore, Antonio Bryant and Vernon Davis amongst others IMO.

My only point is that the Skins aren't playing these games to win. They're playing these games to see how players respond to certain situations.

Ding Ding Ding! Damn near every team shares this philosophy. Why do you ignore this? BP has a reputation for placing players in difficult situations and personnel experimentation in the preseason.

then how can you get excited about about looking good against a poor team, that was purposely calling plays to be difficult, instead of trying to win?

BTW Bill is from the Lombardi school of pre-season... play to win, play second and third string but call plays to win. He would never go for a fourth and 4 in the first quarter near mid field to see how a certain player or players would respond., or keep the same defense on several plays in a row, even though the other team keeps completeing the same pass over the middle time and time again....Things even the most casual of fans can see, just for evaluation or training purpose.

I watch two of the Pokes pre-season romps, I'd be highly surprised if Bill hadn't gameplanned for them. He had a lot of chocolate syrp, nuts, whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry on the vanilla play calling :rotflmao:

This is where you're dead wrong. I think that you're right in that BP wants to win anytime a score is being kept but he's also known for experimentation and putting players/units in difficult positions. In doing this, he also wants his team to experience and practice real game management. In other words, he wants to practice winning.

No more worried about our offense struggling down the stretch this year than you should be with your offense struggling down the stretch last year.

Five straight 100 yard rushing games and five straight wins isn't struggling. In any sense. The Cowboys under Parcells are 6-9 over their last five games of the season. The Redskins under Gibbs are 8-2. We play our best ball in December. You play your worst. But hey, at least you can say you look good in the preseason. :)

The difference is, our offense looks good this year. Yours does not.

No. Your offense doesn't look anything this year. They haven't PLAYED this year. This isn't quite as silly as talking about a scrimmage, but it's close.

I've been in your position. I posted exactly what I said in your postion. Was anyone injured? No? Good game.

But I understand you are so desperate for vindication you will cite games that don't count at this point. My suggestion to you is wait until they actually play some real games before declaring victory. That would have been a good policy last year, but quite a few Cowboy fans ignored it then as well. At least last year Cowboy fans had a win streak over us and a nice regular season showing to back their trash up. Now apparently they've downshifted to scrimmages and preseason games. Forgive me for not cowering.

All these games don't really matter, I'll give you that. But you can't tell me that being beaten the way you have in the last 3 games isn't the least bit worrysome. If you say it doesn't bother you a little, you are in the .00001 minority.

I'm worried about our injuries. If Portis misses significant time we're in trouble. Other than that, nope, don't care about some preseason game. Never have. Never will.

Minnesota won't be a pushover this year. And you have us in week two. With the level of execution so far, maybe you aren't panicking yet, but I bet Gibbs and company are. They just won't let on.

With all due respect, you have not one CLUE as to what Gibbs is thinking.

Remember, Gibbs came out last week and tried to fire up his troops, and look what he got back. 41-0 Something tells me they ain't listening to him.

Ah the official overreaction to the Preseason thread...I heard 41-0 over the radio and didn't really care. Really, I fully expected the Cowboy fans to come on here and j-each other off over not giving up sacks to the 2nd team DLs of the 9ers and Saints. Way to go. If they stop Hendersont and Stroud in Wk 1 - THEN I will give them credit.

It's really laughable how excited some of the Cowboy fans are getting - and laughable how depressed some of the 'Skins fans are getting. I just don't care about the preseason. I am not ready to proclaim the season a wash or a winner based on the freakin' preseason.

Oh and before WeownU, #284Eva (I just thought it was nice for a Cowboys fan to honor Darrell Green, really pays homage to one of the greats. Too bad he's a know nothing troll) start getting to amped up, I noticed a little stat this morning:

Brunell didn't have a 200 yard game from week 10 on. I'd say thats struggling.

You're offense last year was atrocious late last year. And if you don't see the correlation between that and the last 3 preseason game, then there is no help for you.

Keep drinking the kool-aid and telling yourself "we look great in the preseason"

So...if the Skins "struggled" down the stretch and won 6 straight games (including the playoff win) and the Cowboys finished 2-4, what does that tell you? I know there is some kind of convoluted logic in there somewhere.

Birdlives
August-28th-2006, 07:09 PM
Considering how poorly Brunell played last preseason. Considering they were short three crucial defensive starters and one all-pro Runner. Considering at least 50% of what the Skins are running in practice isn't being run in games. I don't see why people should jump off a cliff.

At the same time of course most Skins fans would like to see better execution. I didn't get to watch alot of the game, but what I did see, which was the starters part of the game they didn't look that bad. They executed a few plays well, stopped the Pats on a 3rd and short. Could they be better? Of course they could. Should we fold up the season? Of course not. I expect the Skins will be okay in the long run and probably do well this year, same expectations I've had since January. And you'd better believe I'll be keeping this thread on tap in the event that the Skins beat Dallas week 2 and look good. I'll also be here to take my lumps if they start out by losing some games.

In the end it's still preseason. I've seen plenty of teams look like world beaters in Pre and come out and flop. Just as many teams looked soft and came into the regular season to win their divisions. Quite frankly we're all just football fans. Who can really tell what the hell is going to happen come regular season time? All I do know is it'll be one hell of a ride either way.

50% of the plays, Al has come out and said, he's only used 2% of his 700 page PB.

So Cowboy fans are happy we haven't done anything in preseason :applause: . I'll be laughing in there faces when wk2 rolls around again, and this time, I'll ask, what about our preseason record?

I guess they don't look at the big picture. Al & Gibbs are notorious for not winning in preseason. But Gibbs seemed to stumble into 3 superbowl rings w/ only 2 preseason wins during that time span.
Why is that?
Can Dallas fans actually give me an explanation for that?
I guess we need to throw in the flag and forfit the whole reg. season b/c of our struggles during preseason. :silly:
