My problems with Brunell is not his arm or legs.

Its simply that he's looking at the pass rush again. As he did 2 years ago. It is impossible to be successful when you take your eyes away from whats goin on downfield and look at the pass rush.

He's playing scared and you arent going to do well when you are playings scared.

I dont know the reason for this, but it needs to stop or he will have to be pulled, he is not feeling the rush around him, he is looking at it. And that kills the entire play.

This could possibly be because he is not comfortable with the offense. But either way it needs to stop or we wont beat the texans. Even when pass protection is perfect he looks at the rush.

Now I dont know if Campbell is the answer, I dont know if he could take us to the playoffs if we put him in now or not.

But he did go undefeated in the SEC his senior year, and that is pretty damn impressive, yes he did have 2 backs that both went in the top 10 of the draft, but his WR's werent exactly gamebreakers. And if Auburn hadnt been screwed out of a chance to play in the national title game he could have been a top 10 pick.

Personally... I think Brunell is just getting to that age when its about time to retire. Hes not a quick as he used to be and that is probably why he looks at the rush more.

The real problem is he when you go back 10-15 yards you get a really good view of the pass rush coming at you. If JC is not going to play then Brunell needs to step up in the pocket.

If our opponents look at the film of the cowpie game they will see that if you bring the house on Brunell you can beat us.That right there just makes me cringe to think of Portis back there trying to block several big blitzers coming full speed. :ahhhhh: Any thoughts? :violin:

The season is over. We suck. The coaches suck. The playbook needs to be dumbed down.

I watched the waterboy from this weeks tape and he had 12 attempts.

All he had to do was to hit the players in stride but ole noodle arm couldnt even do that.

4 attempts were too high and the players almost got water up their nose. Pathetic. Three more attempts were a bit low and resulted in water being dropped to the ground. This is inexcusable.

I've seen better use of a towel in pron movies.
We should trade up in next years draft to get a decent waterboy, or trade for Green Bays. I hear he is pretty good.

This team needs a friggin GM.

We are going 1-15 this year

I love the way portis blows people up when he is pass blocking, I will always remember the denver game last year that is the best block by a running back I have ever witnessed. But I just dont want him to hurt his shoulder trying to protect Brunell all the time.

Yeah, I have a thought(s). How bout a screen pass? Or the WR screen? How bout trying to roll him out and buy him some more time? How bout letting Randle El throw off a reverse? How bout using our team speed and chucking it up deep to put pressure on opposing corners? Or, is Brunell not capable of doing these things anymore?

Does anyone on this forum remember that Gibbs inherited Patrick Ramsey as the "Future of the Franchise" and brought in Brunell for the first year to compete for the job and if lost to provide veteran leadership as a backup. I've seen many threads or posts bashing Gibbs for the QB situation but how short of a memory do we all have??? If Ramsey was as good as even Hasselback, MB would be an excellent backup!!!! Hopefully JC was the right choice, I think he will prove to be, and that he will be the QB legacy of the Gibbs II era.

In 2004 Brunell was benched. Whether he was hurt or just played bad isn't really the issure for me, my guess is probably alittle of both.

In 2005 he wasn't the opening day starter but after Ramsey was taken out by something that reminded me of the WWF Brunell was once again the starter. I think we all know Gibbs wanted Brunell to get the job back.

2005 was definately better than than 2004 but it was still kinda similar. Brunell was either hurt or played bad or alittle of both in some of the games. I'm speaking about the end of the year.
He played terrible vs the Cardinals, played well against the Cowboys, then got hurt vs the Giants, and then finished the season by playing badly vs the Eagles, Bucs, and Seahawks.

To take it a step further, he got hurt in his last season with the Jags.

2006, we are very active in the free agent market and that gets all of us excited for sure.

But this is where I wonder about the plan or the existence of a back up plan.

It seems like we decided this year was going to be the year we go for it, build on the success of last year, use free agency to fill in some holes we had.

But we are putting the team in the hands of QB that has either been hurt, not played well, or alittle of both in the past 3 seasons.

Do you guys not think that this crossed the minds of the powers at be? Do you think Gibbs and everyone else just assumed Brunell would stay healthy this year even though he couldnt in 2004 and he couldnt at the end of 2005.

Whether you like Brunell or not isn't the issue here, the issue is the fact that he has proven over the last 3 years that he really can't stay healthy for an entire NFL season anymore.

I cannot believe that Gibbs didn't plan for this. Is Campbell ready to play now?

Or was Collins braught in because Gibbs knew Campbell wasn't ready?

Maybe we were all just alittle to optomistic and nieve when it came to our expectations for this season based on the QB situation.

In order for this season to be a success we needed Brunell to stay healthy and play well, he's shown each of the 2 prior years that he struggles with one if not both of those aspects.

I say this because I don't think Campbell is ready and I don't think Collins was braught here to play.

That hot girl from Comcast asked Mark the one glaring question that we have all been dying to know. He did not snap at her (that was earlier) but he didn’t really answer the question.

Comcast reporter:“Is it holding on too long sometimes or is it stepping up into the pocket and making that extra attempt.”

Brunell: “You know sometimes you gotta buy time, really is what you need to do, sometimes that is tough with pressure but it certainly can help your game if you can avoid a defender stay in the pocket and deliver the ball, that’s what you’ve got to do.”

In Jacksonville, Mark’s game was predicated on his quickness. Avoiding a defender and buying time that way to hit a receiver downfield. Now that he is slow he still tries the same things, only he gets sacked and runs backwards too far. Gibbs masked these deficiencies by rolling him out and throwing a lot of hitches and quick screens last year, Saunders is trying but he is expecting him to run a normal NFL offense with multiple receivers and straight drop backs sometimes, and most of those things he does not do well. Hence Al’s comments yesterday about “finding out what Mark can and can’t do well and continuing to fit the offense to that.”

I guess i'm not going to get any discussion on this topic because I didn't call anyone a name or rant and rave about how I know better than everyone else.

I honestly just want to know what over people think.

Any response or debate on this topic would be great.

I'm just alittle tired of having the same discussion on 10 different threads.

with all due restraint, dcoles, you start yet another thread bringing nothing new here that isn't/hasn't being/been discuss (ed) in the mega-pages on brunell to date, including today and have been as repititive as anyone. maybe getting away for awhile would help. i don't mean that in a smart ass way at all. it's a suggestion i think a lot of people here would benefit from following.

Great post, it is so true - it must be killing the coaches.

Or asked the question that the "redskins.com" media, as much as I love the access, would never ask him to his face.

Mark has no problem saying he needs better protection or RBs behind him, why shouldn't he be held accountable?

With all due respect Jumbo, please find me a thread that ask to discuss the actually plan for this season.

If Brunell went down with injury or just didn't play well was the season just going to be a loss?

All the other threads about Brunell are nothing but, bench him, don't bench him.

dcoles, I'm sure you know I’m being sincere when I tell ya I don't have time right now...but just off the top of my head, asides from maintaining you could have placed that question just fine as a fit in many existing threads, I’d say specifically the ones we had where Gibbs says if mark's injured during a game, our plan is to play Collins, and if there’s a change to be made where a whole week is available for game-prep we go with Jason...there was a lot of discussion on it...remember?...not being rude, just answering.
