Bengals' Thurman arrested for drunken driving
NFL.com wire reports
CINCINNATI (Sept. 25, 2006) -- Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman was arrested early Sept. 25 on a drunken driving charge.
Thurman, already serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, registered 0.18 percent on a blood-alcohol test -- more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to the police arrest report.
Police said Thurman, who drove an SUV across a double-yellow line, was stopped about 3 a.m. near a sobriety checkpoint operated by police and the State Highway Patrol.
A second-round draft pick out of Georgia last year, Thurman led the Bengals in tackles and had five interceptions as a rookie, helping Cincinnati reach the playoffs with its first winning record since 1990.
The arrest is "certainly a concern since he recently was suspended, but this is an entirely new case," Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said.
Thurman has one game left on his suspension.

Yawn. I was gonna post this this morning, but decided not to. If we post it every time a bengal gets arrested, the server will crash. Can't we just assume from now on that Bengal <name> will be arrested for <crime> about once a month?

A month? They feel fortunate if they go three days without a new black eye:D . I am curious as to the policy with this though. He is already under suspension for substance abuse -- so.....what is the procedure for a player in his situation getting a DUI ? I get the feeling that Tags would have came down on him pretty hard. Will be interesting to see what Goodell does

Indeed. This could be Goodell's first litmus test as a commisioner to see how tough he will be.

Whats the over/under on how many extra games this will cost him. I'll go with the under almost no matter what it is. I have a feeling Roger is gonna be a "kinder, gentler" commish

Makes you wonder whether there is a direct correlation between the amount of players on a team with misdemeanor felony arrests and the success of the team. Looks like the Bengals took a page out of the Cowboys guide for success.
Then again Marvin Lewis has had plenty of experience with felons before in Baltimore. Could it be that he discovered the secret to success (in the NFL)?

Haha, pretty soon player bios will read:

In all seriousness though, the Pats showed you can win with good character guys, and the Raiders are showing that not every bad character team is good. There is no clear cut formula on this one..

Could you imagine how good this team could be if they stayed out of trouble and focused? No suspensions, no distractions!

I think it really shows this guy needs to go to AA. But I wouldn't be shocked if he got the year off. Should as send him to rehab he needs it.

It seems like any player on Cincy cannot stay out of trouble. Thurman was already serving a four game suspension for voilating the league's substance abuse policy if I remember correctly
