After Bye, Giants Hope They've Seen the Last of Their Troubles

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 2 -- Tom Coughlin is not really the relaxing sort, anyway. But even if he were, the coach of the New York Giants would not have found his team's bye week very soothing, not with the defending NFC East champion in crisis mode.

The Giants returned to work Monday after a three-day break. They had been given Friday through Sunday off after spending most of last week in practices and meetings searching for answers on the heels of an embarrassing loss in Seattle -- one in which they trailed 35-0 and 42-3 before a cosmetic rally reduced the final margin to 42-30 -- that dropped them to 1-2. Tight end Jeremy Shockey criticized the Giants' coaching staff immediately after the game, and the New York tabloids had more than enough fodder to declare in blaring headlines that the team was on the precipice of anarchy and collapse.

But in a nearly empty locker room at Giants Stadium late Monday morning, a few players said they'd managed to reenergize over the weekend and they were ready to begin trying to rebuild their season with a game at home Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

"You get better, man, plain and simple," defensive end Michael Strahan said. "You don't panic. You don't get too upset when you lose. You don't get overjoyed when you win. We haven't exactly played the way we want to play. But at the same time, we know we're better than that and, at some point, we've just got to own up to it. We're at that point we need to own up to it."

Said linebacker Antonio Pierce: "We have to come in here focused. I think the three days off did a lot of people some good. Guys were happy to be back to work today, so I think we'll have a good week of practice, and we'll see what happens when we play Washington."

To a team that comes into next week with the 13th ranked rush defense, and 29th ranked pass defense, they had better be focused. If not, the Skins will have a chance to light them up.

The Skins have a good chance to light'em up regardless of whether they are focused!

Just because the eagles have played the Girl Scout troop 193, the champions of the blind youth Association, and the World war 2 vets and gotten 3 victories doesnt mean they are the best.

Enjoy it while you are at the top. By Sunday evening Dallas will be on top and the Redskins will be tied with you. I expect you won't remember this cocky quote later in the year when Redskin fans are bashing the Eagles for dropping from first to worst!

Keep feeling high on a cloud after beating the Annandale Boys Club teams this season, while letting one of those "lower place nfc east teams" come back and beat you guys.

This is the funniest thing I have read in a while. Well done, sir...

And to Eagle091, didn't one of those lower place teams come in and beat you in your own house? In a thrilling come from behind victory/amazing choke job?

In case anybody forgot, this is the same dumbass that made the post laughing at giants fans right before the giants came back against the eagles. This dude is an embarassment even to eagle fans.

I just don't see the pass to run philosophy (eagles) working full time in the NFL, especially without a name brand running back.......The eagles look good now, but they will have to play some tough games against good teams....I think if we continue to play the way we are playing we will beat the giants.....

And your placing philthy, where? At the top, after that give away game against the mighty Packers? I guess I should add the Texans and 9ner's along with your wins against other power house teams.
Philthy couldn't even go into the locker room at half time feeling good about themselves. When Farve starts throwing easy picks directly into your secondary, I would hope that you could muster a win from that fiasco.
Your offense was inept all evening. McFlab was throwing in the dirt more than Farve was throwing picks and your two top WR's are injured again along with Westbrook.
The Packers gained a lot of yards on your defense. They couldn't stop the run and Farve was tearing your secondary apart until he started forcing the ball into double coverage.
After watching last nights game, I've lost any fear that I might have had playing philthy. They are not impressive and I don't think they really scare anybody.

by giving my honest opinion? that's being a troll?? gheesh you guys are sensitive. as i've said time and time again, it's a matter of talent at the qb position, the skins and the giants are the weakest so far. you act like i said they were a bad team. I said the weaker two in the division. my opinion based solely on qb play.

Almost 500 yards of total Offense and almost 330 passing against Jacksonville while the Eagles get to play the Our Lady of the Worthless Miracle Bridge Club week after week.

Yeah... that's a clear way for McNuggett to set himself apart.

Are you kidding? Or did you just pick out the strongest part of the Eagles and throw it out there?

There is something called the offensive line and the running game. THAT is how games are won in the NFC East - the Eagles have neither. Now that Portis is healthy, the Skins are a good team and just lit up the #3 defense in the league to the tune of 481 yrds. More than you guys put up against the worthless Texans. Or the 9ers. Or the Packers. Or the Giants.

How's that for football - good luck against the Cowboys - I actually want teh Iggles to win - but I don't see it.

4th and 1. Season on the line for the Eagles. Do you think they run or throw the ball? That says a lot about an offensive line.

And we both know the answer to that question...:)

The Eagles have good lines, I'll give them that. But neither unit will impose their will on the game.

What the hell have you been watching? Eli & Brunell the weakest Qbs in the division? YOu do realize Eli and McNabb went head to head and Eli won.

How many passes did McChoke throw in to the ground when they needed a first down late in the Giants game? Eli was 13-13 to finish the game

When the pressure is on McChoke is the last QB in the East anybody would want on their team.

I made my prediction that the Eagles will finish last in the divison, and I stand by that. The Eagles are simply the worst team in the NFCE. Anyone, would have 3 wins if they played who philly played.
