Did you watch the game last night???
Not only was he the worst CB on the field he was the worst player on the field.

I may as well get this out of the way:
"I think the (insert team here) should bring him in for a vet minimum, incentive laden contract."

He got an injury settlement and was released. He's gonna need help for those third degree burns he got last night.

That guy was terrible. He couldn't cover guys the Eagles barely use at receiver.

He's an absolute mess right now. He might be a good project but you don't bring him in midseason. He's going to need a full offseason of coaching.

October-3rd-2006, 04:39 PM
Haha yeah why do you think he got released? It is slightly surprising though. He was a first round pick the year Sean Taylor came out. He will get picked up by someone for depth. Could be us.

October-3rd-2006, 04:42 PM
Wow, you don't see players who actually get a lot of playing time being dropped so abruptly. I mean, he played poorly but there has to be something off the field we don't know about.
Brother Redskin
October-3rd-2006, 04:42 PM
Keep in mind a high draft position does not make a player good. I'm not saying he doesn't have a chance to turn it around but, there is a reason he was dropped by a crappy green bay team.
p.s. this should probably be in ATN
Capt'n Obvious

Dont really think we should pick him up, he was released for a reason.

October-3rd-2006, 04:44 PM
Absolutely sign him - it is definately worth a shot.
How many other "rejects" has GW picked up? Man I remember all the negative talk about Springs and Griffin when they got here.
Man... I thought he got ruffed up too during last nights game, but a release? Wow. They aren't messing around in greenbay anymore.
I'm very happy with Mike Rumph's progress though, so who knows. 6'2" CBs that can cover and hit like Rumph can are very very hard to come by. Other than Al Harris, I don't know of another 6'2" CB in the league, really.
Maybe there was a fight or something after the game?

sign him gw ASAP! With Springs questionable we need all the depth at cb we can get! This guy was a former 1st rounder and had just one bad game. I think gw would be able to work him into the scheme and he'd be a beast for us! Young with a lot of talent! GET HIM!!!!!

just one bad game!!! he got torched all last year which is why the pack signed a washed up charles woodson and then he gets hurt and they go right ahead an attack carroll...while we are at it why dont we sign charles rodgers too.

Even though he's been playing bad, I cant believe GB let him go. Its not normal to just see a team release a player who they drafted recently and hope so much out of.
I wouldnt be mad if we picked him up. If Rumph turned it around so much, why cant he? He did have NO safety help in GB.

The Green Bay Packers on Tuesday released cornerback Ahmad Carroll. Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson (http://www.packers.com/team/staff/thompson_ted/) made the announcement.
Carroll, the Packers' first-round selection in the 2004 NFL Draft, played 34 games in three seasons, starting 28 contests. He had 104 tackles (95 solo), three interceptions, three sacks, 26 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
From the packers website
I still don't get it, I must not know the whole story... though I've read things on fan blogs as early as September "hoping" for a release of the 3rd year CB.
He's never been that bad, by any means, and he is fast as hell, it must be off the field trouble.

After Carroll, the players who I've seen most abused in a single game were Mike Rumph and Will Allen (torched by Moss). We got Rumph, if we got Carroll, then we'd only be missing Will Allen.....No Thanks.

So he isn't a number 1 CB, so what?
If Charles Rogers wasn't an active coke head and headache - he would be a great fifth WR.
Catch my drift? Nobody is saying start him over Carlos, sheesh.
As I said, re-read some of the comments on Rumph when he was traded for, or Springs, or Cornelius Griffin.
I'll trust the Redskin personnell people on this one. (like I have a choice! )

Really? He was the guy they called "Batman" at Arkansas - fairly highly touted CB coming out of college 2 years ago.

October-3rd-2006, 05:07 PM
Based solely on his last preformance, no team should even consider him. Either that has been his normal play, or there are off field issues in order for the Pack to release in this fashion. My take is to stay away.

i just dont get it we draft carlos and now people are hating on him, people didnt like harris so we dump him, we pick up kenny wright and people dont like him, we pick up rumph and some people dont like him, so the solution is to get caroll who has not proven to be good at all and gets released by a team low on cb's and with no chance to compete this year yet they do not want to develop young talent .....makes no sense.

October-3rd-2006, 05:07 PM
Carroll absolutely blew last night. He made Greg Lewis look like a #1 wide receiver. Every time they went down field, it was on Carroll's side. He looked embarrassingly bad last night. He was toast! We do need depth, just not so sure bout this guy.

I wouldn't bother going after him, he's small for one, and would have to learn our system, I would be more comfortable with Jimoh, or one of the guys we already have at corner

?
When is it ever a problem to have too much talent?
Ahmad Carrol is 23 years old right now (turned 23 in August). That is 1 year younger than Carlos Rogers when he came out of College. To say that his "talent" has been washed up and judged to completion - that is crazy.
I am (one of) the biggest Rumph and Rogers supporters around here, but to say that looking into Carrol (as long as he isn't a sucka ass in the character department) makes no sense... wow.

NFL Network reported that the Packers released Ahmad Carroll.Should we pick him up? Past 2 season he has been soild, but seems to be on the wrong end of a new coaching staff and a bad game. Not really a solid tackler, but is a solid coverage DB.

I doubt they will go after Carroll unless he adds some value on special teams. If Williams thinks he is salvageable then he will go get him, but in my opinion he offers no upgrade over Wright or Rumph. I would be very suprised to see Williams go after him because of his size as well. Carroll has some speed but his performance in the NFL has been pathetic . I will support the move if they go after him though.

I see what your saying but the San Fran fans were saying the same things when Rumph was traded.
He had no safety help in Greenbay and no pass rush.
Im not saying we should get him, but just saying that if he is signed, I wouldnt be surprised if he plays ten times better than he did in GB.
Which wouldnt be hard from what im hearing. :D

It couldn't hurt to just sign him. Just because we sign him, doesn't mean he's going to play unless he shows in practice that he's ready (read: Duckett). We have some extra money - I say sign him, and worst case scenario is that we cut him in the off season and lose nothing and best case scenario, we get someone to contribute to the D.

October-3rd-2006, 06:56 PM
Forgot to mention that he's also very young, so maybe with some GW tutoring, he can at least contribute.

He has good skills, he just needs quality coaching...We should at least bring him in for a tryout...We need to be looking down the road for a replacement for Springs and Wright who are both 30 and not long term answers at the position...

I think if Jerry Gray sees real upside then we get him. I think he should make the final decision since that's his area.

Donovan has had a fun time the past few years going after Carroll. I remember a game, I believe against the Rams, he played horribly then too, when they remarked how the coaches at the time had to making him wear baseball mits or oven mitts, so he couldn't hold the reciever.

Some of you are nutz  You hear a name that sounds familiar and see that he was a high draft pick and want to pick him up. This guy is one of the worst corners in the league Walt Harris is 20Xs better than this kid. He has no change of direction and his field speed is very suspect. He gets more holding/illiegal contact penalties than anybody in the league. technique had nothing to do with Gregg Williams flying by him with no double move.

Every time I have seen the Packers on TV for the last 3 years, Ahmad Carroll has gotten burned badly at least once. There is a reason the Packers vastly overpaid Charles Woodson, and it is that Carroll is just awful. I don't see how a change of scenery is going to help him from getting burned in one on one coverage repeatedly.I wouldn't mind bringing him in to training camp but you have to be pretty desperate to give him any playing time the rest of the season.

Why did they cut him? We would have given up a 3rd round pick in the 2010 draft for him?

Execution56
October-5th-2006, 03:54 PM
There is a reason he was selected in the first round... Someone will give him another chance. At this point, with the shortage we have at DB, having him on the bench until he gets his confidence back will not hurt. That is the reason teams try not to start rookies in their first season, especially DB's and QB's.
Skinz_4_life
October-6th-2006, 12:48 AM
anyone know his 40?? i think at corner all he really needs is speed..... GW can coach and mold the rest... he is young it couldn't hurt to take a look at him he could be a system player.. like i believe smoot was for us
SAli457180
October-6th-2006, 01:15 AM
There's a reason the guy was released: he wasn't very good. You can't sign every available guy to plug holes. This team was painfully thin at the position anyway and now they have to go with what they've got.
