View Full Version : First Game of the year: Theisman "I don't like Matt Leinhart"

I remember specifically when Theisman said something like:
He didn't think the Raiders should have picked leinart with oakland's #7 pick either, and also believed leinart would have trouble succeeding in the nfl. period.
When asked why, he said something about not proving himself and having a weak arm. the weak arm is granted, but as kornheiser then pointed out with regards to the leadership knock, leinart did lead his team to two national championships (nearly three).
I couldn't believe he was saying that. What an idiot.

Right. And everyone waits until now to post about how wrong Joey T. was and how great Leinart is. If you knew how great he was you would have posted it before now.
Come on.

true enough but Brees and Brady aren't known for their arm strength either

Everyone makes mistakes - just because he's an analyst doesn't make any difference.

Exactly - hindsight is 20/20. Joey admitted his mistake tonight as well. A lot of people didn't think Leinart would be great (that is why he was passed up by a lot of teams that needed a QB).

I don't think we hail a rookie qb as great after 1 game.

JT also said many years back that Andre Ware would be a dominant QB in the pros.

I wanna see more than one game before I declare Joey T wrong
I stood by him at the time that Leinart would be a bust

Simms looked good after several games last year. This year - well.

You'd be surprised at how often he's really right, though. Sometimes he sounds absolutely insane, but people forget that he turned out to be right in many cases.

Yup, neither was Montana, but the most important thing about these guys is that they're accurate, and Leinart looks to be pretty much on target most of the time too.

I posted last year ago that Denver made the Campbell trade, beacuse they thought the Redskins were going to stink. Then they were going to package our #1 pick and their #1 pick for the #1 overall pick this year and take Leinart. The reason I said they were going to do this is because Shanahan is smart enough to know that in the right system, Matt Leinart is going to go to multiple pro bowls and could have a Hall of Fame type career.
I still think Leinart is going to be great, but bad things happen to good players in Arizona so I am now tempering my expectations a bit.
I still say that if Leinart had ended up in Denver, he would be in the Pro Bowl as early as next season.
And I was right about Shanahan moving up to get a QB. He just got Cutler instead.

Theismann= The Notre Dame QB who changed the pronunciation of his name to rhyme with Heisman.
He's probably just jealous, lol.

I always thought that Cutler would have been the best QB from that draft class. He still may be.. We shall see. Leinhart has shown poise and leadership thus far.

****, against the Bears Leinhart looked like a top vet. The Cardinals have a horrible OL, no running game at all and Fitzgerald is out but he picked the Bears defense apart.
Wish our 14 year vet QB could look 25% as good as that rook.

And I wish Dubya could be 25% as good as Clinton. But, that is another topic for another forum. :)
