I agree with you there. I've said reapeatedly that he reminds me of the Delhomme/Hasselbeck type which isn't bad. Both of those guys led there teams to SB appearances. Funny how those two were not high draft picks and sat the bench early as well. In my wildest dreams he's Brett Favre.

I thought Romo looked good, I was impressed.
That said, it's a long, tough road out there. Defensive coordinators haven't thrown everything at him yet... all it takes is one weakness and everyone will exploit it. Not sure if it exists, but who knows.
Ramsey looked like an effing worldbeater when he broke out onto the scene.

It hurts that the division race will be so close this season and Washington will be watching from the basement but it's a loooong season and Tony Romo is not out of the woods yet. Nice "debut" and kudos to the Cowboys for beating up on a respected defense.

I was impressed with Romo. I think he will be a good QB for you. But, I also think that, he will be like many young QB's in this league. One game he will impress you with his talent and decision making, and the next he will make you shake your head wondering WTF he was thinking. But congratulations on a good win against a good team on the road. Romo is off to a good start.
BTW I thought the tuna t.o. exchange was sweet.

TR1 does ride you guys hard, but you are puke fans so what do you expect.
For a first time starter I thought Romo looked good and showed promise. When teams start getting film on him and start taking away what he likes to do let's see how he reacts. The skins defense so far has not proven they can stop anyone so I don't know what kind of test he will get this weekend, but one can hope Williams will get things turned around.
As with all young QB's they will have ups and downs. I will add that I don't know why Carolina didn't blitz more and make Romo make quicker decisions.

I thought Romo did okay. He had his moments where you would expect him to. Holding the ball instead of getting rid of it once. Getting rid of it a couple of times when he should have held it, but still had some good passes out there. His line gave him a bit more of a chance than Blesoe got last week, but when they didn't, he was able to get out of there and make something happen. He has 2 good receivers and a good tightend out there to help him out as well. Certainly last night was a respectable showing for the young man, ( though I dare say that Carolina did some helping in that area as well. Some of the coverages were..well...suspect). The question now is will he be able to continue this not just next week but after.

I didn't catch the game, so I only know from second hand reports that he did fairly well.
After seeing him in the 2005 preseason I remarked that I thought he looked pretty good. I took a closer look at him in the preseason this year and noticed a few things. He didn't throw it over 20 yards much if at all. He has very happy feet, and can be pressured into making weird throws. Like some sidearm slinging type passes. JJ called those throws "sandlot plays". Also, his playfaking bites.
Of course all of that is offset by the fact that he does make some accurate throws and he seems to get his team moving down the field. If this was last year or the year before, I'd be fairly confident that we could fluster him with some blitz schemes. This year I'd say he'll probably do fairly well against us. Witten will probably have a huge day and Glenn and TO will most likely catch their fair share.
I'd feel pretty good about Romo as a Cowboys fan right about now.

He looked good showed real poise and really seemed to bring a spark to the whole team. That's all you can ask from a first time starter. He also seemed to go through progressions ok, although he did lock onto TO a few times. Overall I thought he did a great job considering the situation and I was actually jealous of Cowboy fans as I watched it.

I thought Romo looked good.....much better than Bledsoe....DARN IT! He can run and is not afraid to throw. Dallas may have a real winner.
I'm sure TO is glad of the switch as Romo has no allegiance to Glenn and was throwing to TO much more. TO will become his go-to guy along with Witten.

Romo > Bledsoe
SonnyJ
October-31st-2006, 09:06 AM
I thought in the early going he looked pretty shaky. Then, he threw that pick on a gawdawful pass and thought he was going to throw at least a couple more. But he settled down nicely and made some nice plays to help them get back in the game.
BUT.
He didn't win the game for them. His part in the game was essentially over once the Cowboys got to 14-13. At that point, the Panthers basically gift-wrapped the game for the Cowboys in a nice pretty bow. And all Romo did at that point was hand it off. The Panthers were a beaten team after the Williams interception off that knucklehead throw from Delhomme, if they already weren't after that fumble on the KO prior to Jones' TD run.
So, while he played solidly and made some good plays, he DID NOT WIN the game for the Cowboys. The Cowboy D/Panther stupidity took care of that.

Even though im a puke fan, here's my :2cents: ...
I am genuinely excited about watching the cowboys play again. Its only been one game, but he gives us 2 major advantages over Bledsoe:
1) Mobility. He will turn negative plays into no-gainers or get positive yards.
2) He requires less max protection, which allows Witten to spend less time pass blocking and more time running routes. There is absolutely no way he catches 6 balls for 80 yards and a TD if Bledsoe is back there.
He'll make his fair share of mistakes and int's....but let's not forget how often Bledsoe threw pic's, fumbled, and took sacks. I would rather take my bumps with a QB that covers up our weaknesses, not exploit them.

No single player wins or loses the game. But dont you think we would have given up half a dozen sacks or so with Bledsoe back there?? We dont need him to win each game for us, just not lose it. There was a pass Romo had with about 12 minutes to go in the game on 3rd and 12 from the Carolina 24, he sidestepped the rush, and threw a strike to Witten over the middle for 16 yards and a first down.
Now I know he wont make plays like that all the time....but he has the ability to, and Bledsoe doesn't. That makes you excited.
