Since 1970, only four teams that started 2-5 or worse have made the playoffs. The 2002 Jets, the 1995 Lions, the 1990 Saints and the 1970 Bengals. Right now we have 12 teams in that category and all of them have their backs to the wall. It would appear after talking to a Redskins player that all is not lost just yet and the Washington players truly feel they can be the fifth team to battle back since 1970.

So who here thinks the Redskins will make the playoffs? I think they will.

i thikn many might be angry with me but i hope we lose alot of our remaining games.. it will give these coaches a fire up their ass and stop being so arrogant.. it will make joe gibbs think about all the personnel decision he makes and wonder if someone is needed to come in and fix it?

i defintely would not mind going 8-1 or 7-2 down the stretch if campbell were starting

It would be one thing if we were 2-5 and had lost close games or at least looked decent in the losses.

I'd be very happy to be wrong about this, but there is no ****ing way the Redskins will make the playoffs this year.

In the long run, 8-8 is worse than 5-11 if Campbell doesn't get any experience.

Just found out I'm going to the game tomorrow...so anything's a possibility. I still believe in the playoffs, let's hope the Skins do too.:logo::dallasuck

I will say this, if the planets align correctly, hell freezes over, and they do make the playoffs this year, then I dont care what anybody says, itd be our greatest run ever, whether we win the playoffs or not

Only 4 teams had come back from 0-2 down in the NBA first round playoffs to win a series. The Wizards won 4 straight....and won the series.

Heck, it's the NFL. Anything can happen. Is it likely? No. But I'll be cheering them on to win every week. If their intensity matched mine, it would be no problem and they'd be in.

Exactly. It isn't like we're playing good solid football every week but just keep barely losing. If that were the case I would say it is possible if they all pull together and play great ball. However, considering the way they have been playing this year (erratic at best), I find it incredibly hard to believe that this team can go 9-0, 8-1, or even 7-2 in the rest of our season (7-2 is a stretch in my opinion since it would have to assume other NFC East teams lose a decent amount of games down this stretch). I hope and wish I were wrong, but I have to be realistic. That is the reason I think the "we need to wait until we are mathematically eliminated to start Campbell" argument really isn't that convincing.

It's time for an overhaul! Let's clean house starting with the jokers in the front office.:point2sky

Faith always defies logic. I hope we win out and kick ass all the way to the SB.

But that's faith talking. Logic has something different to say.

And it sounds a lot like "Start JC!"

moss= injured , portis= injured , springs= injured , brunell= old and injured , our defense=horrid and springs just wont make it better , i mean its one heck of a long shot , personally i'd rather see JC come in and get some time so we can make a real run next year , we know we arent gonna witness any miracles this year lol , but there is alway shope

Ok...I love the Skins and all...but there is NO WAY IN HELL. Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys are already ahead of us so the division championship is pretty much scratched for us...we lost to Minnesota and New Orleans or Atlanta will be the other 2 teams to get the Wild Card spots. For us to get in we need to trade for a QB who can win the game with his arm and/or for 2 awesome LBs and a secondary who will not get burned WHILE the Eagles, Pukes, and P-ants have at least 4 starters placed on the injured reserve. Guess the P-ants have Arrington so far....well...yeah...like I said...NO WAY IN HELL.

It will take baby steps like someone else said on here. We have to take one game at a time. If we don't win against Dallas this week we won't have a winning record let alone be in the playoffs. 2-5 is a big hole to dig out of but it can be done. I have faith in our team and will continue to back them in bad times and good times. That is a true fan. GO SKINS!

i am not raining on anyone's parade...i am just going to throw some stats out...

we are, right now 14th in the NFC...

we are 3 games behind the division leader (who we lost to) and 3 games behind the first wild card team (right now the Saints)...we are 2 games behind the second wild card team (right now the Vikings, ahead of the Cowboys and the Rams based on best record in the conference...we have already lost to two of those teams as well)

so, essentially, we arent actually 2 games out of the wild card, but three, because we lose the tie breaker with the teams currently there (head to head)...remember too, this is a 6 game swing...we can win out, but if they dont lose at least 3 of their remaining 9 games its moot...remember a couple of years ago a 10-6 dolphins team did not make the playoffs for the same reasons...

also go back and look at how those historical teams did it...

the 2002 Jets went 9-7 and won the AFC east....

the Giants are 5-2 right now...they will likely not be 9-7 at the end of the year, although it is possible...currently, we are 0-2 in the division, and 0-3 in the conference...we would currently lose all tiebreakers (the giants, btw, are 3-0 in the division)

the 1970 Bengals finished at 8-6 and won their division...this is comparable to what the Jets did...see above statements

The 1990 Saints finished at 8-8 and made the playoffs as a wild card...8-8 does NOT make the playoffs in the NFC this year...

the 1995 Lions are your best bet...they went 8-1 and made the playoffs as a wild card team...in their stretch they beat 2 teams with winning records...the falcons (9-7) and packers (11-5)...this also came at a time when there was enormous parity in the league...there were only 3 teams in the NFC that year that finished below 7-9...

we play 5 of our next 9 games against teams with winning records, and 3 of the remaining 4 come against teams that are at .500 right now (the panthers and eagles)...the only team with a losing record is tampa

so where does this put us?

well, historically, i think that means if the redskins pull it off it is unprecedented....you can garner as much hope as you want from these other teams that did it...but truth is no one has ever been in as big a hole as we are and made the playoffs

Mathematically....

realistically? if we lose this weekend, its over...(0-3 in division, 0-4 in conference, 3 games behind the wild card team (dallas) that beat us twice)

Brain says no, heart says yes. In all seriousness i think we can do it. As the stat says it's not impossible, it's been done before. Teams get on amazing runs all the time. It wouldn't be easy, but it can be done. Here's hoping.

I can't believe a Giants fan is more optimistic than a Redskins fan, here goes. The Jets in 02. 3 out of their first 5 losses:

| 2 | New England Patriots (http://profootballreference.com/teams/nwe2002.htm) | L | 7-44 |
| 3 | at Miami Dolphins (http://profootballreference.com/teams/mia2002.htm) | L | 3-30 |
| 4 | at Jacksonville Jaguars (http://profootballreference.com/teams/jax2002.htm) | L | 3-28 |

That's some solid football.

Well, if they continue to play the way that they have all season, the playoffs aren't even a remote possibility. They have alot of work to do, and if the defense or offense doesn't show up, they can forget about the postseason.

I we can take care of Dallas, the confidence that will come of that game will take us into Philly and carry us over them.

Remember the Philly team we are playing after this? Can't beat Jax who got the **** blown out of them against Houston (not to mention Leftwich was out).

It IS one game at a time, but looking down the next few, we could go into TAMPA at 4-5.....

This season is NOWHERE near lost.

It'll be tough. I think that one wild card spot may be coming out of the NFC West (seattle) . And maybe the other wild card spot will come from the NFC South (carolina).

This team is 7-9 at best with the talent on the field. They are maybe two years away from being competitive again. As of right now, they only have 4 picks in the 2007 draft, which means they're going to have problems with depth again next year. If they keep their picks for 2008 then maybe they have a shot then.

Too big a hill to climb to go 8-1 over remainder of the season....can it be done sure. I just don't think it is going to happen. I also agree an 8-8 season not playing JC would be a shame....
