View Full Version : Blessing in disquise

As crazy as this may sound, it may be a blessing in disquise if Moss is unable to play this week. My thinking is that this will force Brunell to look for other receivers to throw to, especially the two we brought in this year to make big plays.
Then again, this may not be good at all. After Moss left the game in Indianapolis, James Thrash came in and took his place. Not that that is a bad thing, but what I noticed next was not a good thing. Instead of Brunell looking for Randle El or Lloyd, he started locking on to the one that took Moss' place, Thrash.
If you guys at the game start seeing Thrash get more than his fair share of receptions, I hope you boo Brunell right out of the stadium. Nothing against Thrash mind you, but he is not our #2 receiver. But I have always had a sneaky suspicion that Brunell has only trained himself to know where Moss is on every single play, and the others aren't getting the ball because Brunell doesn't know where they're supposed to be yet. Not only that, but he missed an awful lot of practice time the past two weeks. I highly doubt that he will be prepared for this game against Dallas.

Moss should also stay in the locker room, or else he'll probably just throw it to him on the sideline.

It won't make or break the game for us. We have enough talented recievers that if we're playing at a level of winning football, we will succeed. Now we get to see the real Brunell. I expect disappointment.

He actually does look for other receivers. In most games, he spreads the ball around fairly well.
The problem is, he isn't getting the production out of the other recievers that he's getting out of Moss so far.

Far from it. If you have attended any games you have seen wide open receivers that are just not getting the ball. What happened at the end of the titans game when other wide recievers were open but Brunell decided to throw into triple coverage?

The Titans game was an exception. In all the games before it, the balls were more evenly distributed.

This is very true. After being at several games...you do see wide open receivers!

Have you watched or been to a game this year? Apparently not.

This is just plain wrong. Sorry I am not calling you out but I have seen 3 games in person...Minnesota, Jacksonville, and Tenn. and it's probably a diff. story on TV.
Lloyd is open on a lot of plays and then Brunell just checks down to a running back. It is almost like he doesn't go through his progressions.
Good post earlier about how Brunell maybe only knows where Santana's position is on each play, however I'd like to add to that, he only studies where the number one option will be. I think this is because he thinks that they should "always" be open and if they aren't he checks down to portis/betts.

I completely agree with you friend and made the exact same statement on the "let's pray" thread. I think (and hope) a lot of you will be surprised by how Mark produces on Sunday.
And remember guys, if we win, it's great cause we won. But if we lose, it's one week closer to Campbell!!
Hail.

Look, I actually went through all the play-by-plays in another thread after the Titans game and went through all the intended receivers. For most of the games, he divides his passes pretty well. The only exceptions to this was the Titans game and the Jacksonville game (where Moss had 8 passes thrown to him, but considering how successful he was once he got the ball, that wasn't a surprise.)
So all of this "he locks onto Moss" talk is false.
Now, whether or not he's throwing to the right receiver is a different subject which I wasn't talking about.

As long as Brunell can throw the ball to the sidelines, it doesnt' matter who is in the game. Moss was ineffective in Indy, and as long as Brunell remains the quarterback, it doesn't matter who else is on the field Sunday.
