View Full Version : Attn. Expired Jersey Owners: Please cover the name with tape

RFKFedEx
November-2nd-2006, 07:45 PM
If you plan to wear an expired Redskins jersey to the game Sunday I.E. LA #56, CB #24, etc. please have the curtesy to cover the nameplate with masking tape. Masking tape will not harm the jersey. I understand why people don't want to throw them away after you've spent a lot of cash, but to advertize former players who are now in enemy colors is foolish. Retired and legendary Redskins are ok. I.E. DG #28, AM #81 etc.

The fashion police are out in full force. Who the hell are you to call other people "foolish" for their choice of attire? I think you are foolish for starting such an idiotic thread. If someone wears a Bailey jersey they are still repping their team and team colors. Sorry if this is a personal affront to you. Someone needs to chill.

Sorry. We should all be Skins fans first and foremost...the pride in wearing the colors is what counts...not the nameplate on the jersey. Chances are the person bought the jersey because at one point they liked that particular player. Just because it doesn't work out for the player here doesn't mean one can't proudly wear their jersey. That player represented the team at one time and in some instances did it very well. And to have the original poster then go on to "allow" retired and legendary jerseys just takes a lot of gall imo. I have quite a few jerseys to choose from but would never let someone on a message board influence my decision as to which one to wear. :2cents:

Why would you want to continue to rep CB 24? He was an awesome player and I wish he were still here, but he's not. To cover the name plate shows a greater fan loyalty to the colors and not the individual on the nameplate. Team over individualism seems to work for the winning franchises in this league.

What do you think about Bruce Smith 78 jerseys? I still see those at every game.

RFKFedEx is right. Wearing a Heath Shuler jersey is lame and embarrassing to your fellow fans....especially when the Cowboys are in town. Burgundy duct tape will ensure that you don't need to fork out $100 for a brand-new jersey. You know what they say: "If you can't duct it, **** it!"

Okay, I agree with the thread-starter about not wearing it, but, whatever. Do what you want.

HOWEVER! If we're playing against a team that has a former Redskin on it, and you're wearing his jersey, then don't. Don't wear your Arrington jersey when we're playing the Giants. Don't wear your Bailey jersey when we're playing the Broncos. I saw people wearing Smoot and Johnson jerseys when we were playing the Vikings, and I didn't know who exactly they were cheering for. And then, versus Jacksonville, I saw a guy wearing a Brunell jersey from like 1997 or something. THAT irks me. Don't do it.
Team > ANY player, ever.

What did Champ Bailey or Fred Smoot ever do to us? The Broncos are only "the enemy" on the rare occasion that we play them. Now, as for a certain #56... Yes, I do get pissed off when I still see his name everywhere. When he left in such bad blood, a great many suggestions were posted on how best to salvage the jerseys without buying new ones.

1) Fred Smoot does not play for the Broncos; he plays for the Vikings. The point was that when we were playing the Vikings, people at FedEx were wearing Smoot jerseys from when he was a Redskin. That is ridiculous. I love Smoot, and I hated to see him go, but to support the opposing team's player, whether he used to play for us or not, is heresy.

2) Redskins > Any and every player who ever played for the Redskins.

it sucks, but some people can't afford to buy themselves a new jersey everytime their favorite player leaves the team. and looking back, would anyone have guessed that champ or lavar would've ever left the team? basically it's like thinking of portis or santana leaving the team.

while it might be alittle awkward someone were to wear a champ jersey when we played the broncos, i think the message is clear that they're a SKINS fan first and want to show their support.

Pimping a Shuler jersey is like showing off a pimple.

Nice analogy! To me, if you really want to keep that #5 jersey, put the name "Hayes" on the back of it in honor of former punter Jeff Hayes. He ran off a couple of fake punts during his playing days and kicked off for Moseley as his career was winding down. Hayes was da man!

RFKFedEx
November-3rd-2006, 06:42 AM
The colors of B & G are far more important than the name on the back. However, certain names soil the colors. I.E. Dion #21, Jeff George #3, Bruce Smith #78, on and on and on. I still see those jerseys at every game. The colors are fine but the names are ugly.

Seriously, do people really get their panties all wadded up over jersey's? Every other week there's a "what jersey do I buy" thread or a "what jersey do I wear" thread. Does anyone really care? Seriously, does anyone give a rats ass what jersey is worn? If I pay $100 for a freaking jersey I'll be damn if I'm putting tape on the damn thing just to make some anal jack donkey happy. Repping the colors is repping the colors no matter what freaking name is on the jersey. Some people save a whole year to go to this game and probably can't afford a new jersey. What gives anyone the right to hate on them because they would prefer to feed their kids than go out and buy a Campbell or Taylor jersey when they might get hurt and never step foot on the field again just so someone doesn't get all wadded up because someone has a Arrington jersey. Give me a freaking break.

already done. ramsey jersey is a rypien jersey.

it must be the wrong time of the month of some women skins fans in this thread. jeeeez. its a good idea! i know dozens of skins fans that do this. its a great way to recycle/reuse a jersey that has an old players name on it. chill out girls. if you like ramsey more than rypien and westbrook more than randle el and deion more than ST.... then youre weird... but its all good.

Why?

Who are you to tell someone what clothes to wear? If that's what you want to do then do it but to insinuate someone is less of a fan for not doing so is bull shizzle. Why should anyone care what you think anyway? Rip up your old jersey, sew on a different players name thats your perogative but don't get your Victoria Secret panties all bunched up because someone doesn't choose to follow your juevinile lead.

This has to be the dumbest thread I've ever posted in and I suddenly feel dumber for doing so. That is all.

If you have a problem looking at an expired Redskins jersey at the game Sunday I.E. LA #56, CB #24, etc. please have the curtesy to cover your eyes with masking tape. Masking tape will not harm your eyes. I understand why people don't want to throw them away after you've spent a lot of cash, but to advertize former players who are now in enemy colors is your business. Retired and legendary Redskins are ok. I.E. DG #28, AM #81 etc.

Jersey's with tape on the back is so LAME and UGLY. I can understand if we are playing a team with a former player to not wear his name, but you can still support the Burgandy and Gold

I see all kinds of "questionable" jerseys out there, and my take on it is PLEASE all you old player jersey wearers .... keep wearing them!!! They give me something else to laugh at besides MB's **** poor play.

I think the funniest jersey I've seen worn last game was Jeff Rutledge. That brought me to tears. That has to be the worst jersey a dude can wear outside of anything Shuler.

So, in summary, keep those lame jerseys a coming!!!

A fans loyalty will certainly outlast the majority of players that play for any team in the NFL right now. Don't piss on a person's dreams.

I never got mad about anything. Your renaming the jersey method is brilliant at best and cost effective at the very least.

I lot of people have responded to my thread with anger toward me but hey, it's a fan forum where ideas and opinions are to be shared. Isn't the internet great!

Man if we can somehow get a W on Sunday, all the anger on this board will disappear for at least a few days.

I took my #56 jersey to a silksceen shop and they removed " ARRINGTON " and reprinted my last name in it"s place. ( this wasn't an Authentic or Replica type jersey )

sorry to say it but I am sick of seeing the Brad Johnson and LaVar jerseys.

one guy had a Dan Wilkinson #95 jersey on at the Titans game and I just had to laugh.

I wouldn't be caught dead on the street with a Wilky jersey on

Okay my mother was born and raised in D.C. and has been a skins fans longer than 90% of the people on here have been living. She is 60 years old and will not buy jerseys every year like some of us because she says it does not make you more or less of a fan by having a different name on the back of your jerseys. She wears a #24 Bailey jersey to EVERY game. As long as you have the burgandy and gold on and yell your head off at the stadium, do you think the opposing team has an advantage because your #24 jersey does not say Springs but says Bailey? I personally would not wear any old jerseys, but some people just dont care....and neither should anyone else as long as you are cheering for the right team.

If you can spend over 100 dollars to go to the game, you can spend 55 to get a new jersey. I would not be caught even wearing a number 36 Sean Taylor Jersey...

This thread it not foolish, please don't even wear these jerseys that have players that arent on the team. Get on Ebay and buy an authentic Art Monk for 25 bucks or something.

It looks bad as fans to have half of the pople at the game wearing Bailey/Arrington Jerseys...don't forget Ramsey jerseys, i see those all the time.

I would like to add please don't wear Brunell jerseys either.

You do ont need a jersey to represent your team. Last time I checked you could get a BURGUNDY Hooded Sweatshirt with Redskins writting in GOLD across it at Walmart for like 15 bucks.

It is a disgrace when Dallas fans say, man I say a lot of Arrington jerseys at the game yesterday...that must suck, I admit I loved him while he was here, but come on, even I've retired an authentic jersey that cost over 200 dollars(and I am a poor college student)

I dont wear people that dont play for the Skins anymore either, unless they're great Skins like Theismann, Jurgensen, Riggins, ect..but it doesn't bother me to much if someone else does..I bought a $100 Lavar jersey last season, but as soon as he left the Skins I haven't worn it because he doesnt play for us anymore..I currently wear Santana Moss, Clinton Portis, and Sean Taylor..

Heck yea! I have two Monte Colman Jerseys one white one burgundy! The second most games played in a Redskin Uniform behind Darrell Green!

Now that's cool! I'll have to look for you at the game. Too bad we don't have more Monte Colemans, period, on the team.

This is the EXACT reason why I stick with retired greats -- Bobby Mitchell, Charley Taylor and Doug Williams! Remembering those guys who stuck with their teams unless traded or released, instead of shelling out $300 for the "mercenaries" of today.

I have a LA jersey from my first game at Fed Ex that a good friend bought for me. I will not juss toss, however, I did go to the goodwill store and purchase a matching shirt for $3 and cut out a piece to cover his name. Once sewn on you can hardly tell.:dallasuck
