View Full Version : We Can't Allow Jim Burt On Dallas Sideline

I'm hearing that Jim Burt is being requested by Bill Parcells to be on the Cowboys sidelines again this weekend and Burt has agreed.

Is there any way the Fed Ex staff can bar Jim Burt from coming and being on the Dallas sidelines this weekend? He's not a member of their coaching staff, and I don't like the fact that ex-Giants (Parcells and Burt) who terrorized us in the 80s are now coming back to Fed Ex as Cowboys.

I don't want us to lose this game because of the motivational edge Burt provides the Cowboys.

If we lose because he is on the sidelines giving the boys motivation then we had no business showing up. We have alot more riding on the line for our season right now and if our boys cant get up for this game then close the book on this season.

Jim Burt was a fireplug of a D lineman for the NY Giants when Parcells coached up there and when the Giants seemed to have the Skins' number. He has since become a close friend of Parcells.

A dominating nose tackle that played for Parcells with the Giants back in the 80s.

Will Snyder have balls and have security not allow him in the Fed Ex gates and especially not onto the Cowboys sidelines? I'm going to be extremely angry if I see him there.

Put Theismann down on the sidelines to distract Burt. Burt will get caught up breaking pencils just so he can see Joe wince.

Ooops. Did I just type that?

A'h the ole' throw Snyder under the bus because his security is not tight enough and his balls are too small routine. That strikes an almost near all time low. Who is on the sidelines for the other team shouldnt matter, it is about the Redskins on the field and their execution!

It does matter. Anything that gives the Cowboys a mental/emotional edge shouldn't be tolerated at Fed Ex. This is OUR FIELD!

Riggo,

He did it last week when they played Carolina. And yes, it pissed me off. I know these guys owe a lot to Parcells and he owes a lot to them. But just because Parcells became a turncoat doesn't mean former Giant players need to too.

Fed Ex field is Daniel Snyders property. He could choose not to allow the Cowboys to have more then their players, coaches, and training staff and that would be very fair.

Dude, Jim Burt was one of the reasons the Redskins could barely if EVER get 100 yards rushing against the Giants even in the era of the Hogs. Without Jim Burt, LT would never have been the player he was...it all starts up front. He was a damn good player and I don't like Parcells having him around on the sidelines unless we can bring back some of our warriors and put them on the sidelines as well.

Well maybe you should create a thread asking Gibbs to bring some our warriors and put them on the sideline!

Here is the article from NY Daily News:

Burt with 'Boys
as Tuna helper

BY HANK GOLA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

It's been strange enough to watch Bill Parcells coaching his once-biggest rival the last few years, but the scene along the Cowboys' sideline in Charlotte on Sunday night got absolutely surreal.

There, in Dallas gear with hair to match the silver star was Jim Burt, the pugnacious ex-nose tackle of the Giants, whipping the Cowboys into a frenzy as they rallied to beat the Panthers to stay within a game of the Giants in the NFC East. Ever loyal to the coach who nurtured (and tortured) him from rookie free agent to Pro Bowler, Burt saw it his duty to pump up the moribund Parcells after watching him passively lose to the Giants last Monday night.

Burt called the next morning.

"I thought he was sick," Burt explained. "I said to him, 'Bill, what's wrong with you? You're white as a ghost, you're not moving. What are you doing? What's going on?' The team looked like (garbage) and instead of screaming at 'em, kicking them in the (rear), he's in la-la land.

"I knew I needed to come down," Burt said. "Because he looked lifeless."

The relationship between Parcells and Burt was one of the wackiest ever, but 20 years ago, it helped produce the Giants' first Super Bowl appearance. Undrafted and undersized out of Miami, Burt had to make the team in 1981 with hard work, hustle and smarts and he impressed the then-defensive coordinator by getting into scraps at his first training camp.

By the time Parcells became head coach in '83, he knew how to push Burt's buttons during the week by getting him so ticked off at him, that he'd take it out on the opposition on Sunday. It was a stormy yet loyal relationship, even after Parcells took it upon himself to announce Burt's retirement, whereupon Burt, battling back problems, signed with the 49ers and won another Super Bowl ring.

But like the others, that storm passed. When Parcells installed the 3-4, two-gapping defense last year, he brought Burt and Carl Banks to training camp to help indoctrinate the players in the nuances. Burt returned to Cowboys camp this year but Sunday was his first regular-season game on the Dallas sideline.

"At 5 o'clock Sunday, I jumped on the plane, got there a little after 7, got right to the game," Burt said. "(I) walked right into the stadium ... first person I saw was Bill ... shook hands ... walked into the locker room, got crazy and pumped it up."

Someone from the NFL threw a Cowboys jacket at him and Burt spent the rest of the night summoning up that old, familiar energy, screaming at players, bumping chests with Roy Williams after big plays and urging coaches to get into it after what seemed like a "suicide watch" with the Cowboys down 14-0. He even told Parcells to throw some "candy" at the beleaguered offensive line for opening holes against the Panthers up front.

When Burt got back to New Jersey, he heard it from Giants fans for going over to the dark side.

"I just tell them, don't forget, who's the only guy who won two Super Bowls with the Giants? Bill Parcells," he said. "Hey, I'm certainly not going to root for the Cowboys against the Giants but I'm going to help out Bill when they're not playing. Bill and I, we've got that bond. We did it together."

In fact, Parcells wants Burt back on the sidelines against the Redskins on Sunday.

"You know him...superstitious," he said.

Riggo,

Leonard Marshall, Harry Carson, Carl Banks, and others were partly responsible too. Don't give Burt all the credit. Especially now that he is sporting Cowboy attire. Again..... and add :puke:

Man I miss some of those old school battles between the Giants and Skins...even though we lost the majority of them they were always close, well-played and hard-fought...and 1-2 plays determined the outcome.

The last time the Redskins won they had Dennis Haybert (a.k.a. - President David Palmer) on the sidelines against Jacksonville. I think it's clear we need to declare a state of emergency and get him back to FedEx Field ASAP. It's for the good of the country.

Burt also ended his career as a SF 49er, so he's used to going to other teams. He looks like a shorter Tony Siragusa. Probably smells as bad as him too.
