View Full Version : The "other" Moss wants to be traded - should we inquire ?

When I saw the headline on a sports site, "Moss wants to be traded", my heart sank, until I verified it wasn't Santana. And I resisted the temptation to use the same headline here

A few years ago, I would not have been interested, but Moss seems to have cooled down a bit, with his character problems. Wouldn't it be nice to have both Mosses on our team ?

Moss looking for a trade
He tells Fox radio that "moving somewhere else next year" might be best
By Steve Corkran
CONTRA COSTA TIMES

Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss is "tired" of the frustration he feels playing for a team that has won only six of 25 games since he joined the team before last season and is interested in being traded, he said on his weekly radio spot Friday.

Moss is in his second season with the Raiders and hasn't managed to recapture the magic he showed for most of his seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

"It's done sort of set in, man, and I'm tired of it," Moss said on Fox Sports radio. "I might want to look forward to moving somewhere else next year to have another start and really feel good about going out here and playing football."

Moss dropped this latest bombshell three hours or so before the Raiders boarded a plane for Kansas City in anticipation of their game against the Chiefs on Sunday, and four days after he attributed his dropping so many passes this season to his being unhappy.

Raiders coach Art Shell spoke with the media less than an hour before Moss' latest outburst. He was asked if he had spoken with Moss about the comments Moss made Monday afternoon.

"I said what I had to say in the paper," Shell said. "I'm sure he reads the paper. I don't have to say things. Again, guys make statements. I'm not sure they realize what they're saying at the time, or how it looks. I think by the end of the day, they're a little remorseful about it."

Moss, 29, leads the Raiders in receptions, receiving yardage and touchdowns. However, he is on pace for fewer than 1,000 yards -- in a season in which he plays all 16 games -- for the first time in his nine-year career.

Moss said Monday that "I might not be able to do the things I used to do back in the day." That doesn't mean he doesn't care. He said he cares "110 percent."

"I would invite somebody to come in and put the 18 jersey on, see what we go through on a weekly basis and then expect to go out there and perform at our highest level," Moss said Friday. "I guess that's what people see on game day, but they don't see what's behind closed doors through the week."

His drop in production can be traced to groin, rib and back injuries he sustained against the San Diego Chargers in the Raiders' fifth game last season.

He had 19 receptions for 466 yards and two touchdowns in Oakland's first four games last season. He finished with 60 catches for 1,005 yards and eight touchdowns in 16 games. His average yardage dropped from 24.5 per catch to 13.1 after his injury. He is at 13.8 on his 33 receptions this season.

Moss put part of the blame on quarterbacks Aaron Brooks and Andrew Walter, saying they aren't always in sync in terms of things such as timing and where he wants the ball delivered.

"A lot of it has to do with ... the timing of me and the quarterback," Moss said.

The rest, he said, stems from an offensive philosophy by coordinator Tom Walsh that lacks an effective rushing attack and the kind of short passes that make it possible for Moss and other receivers to be effective on intermediate and deep passing routes.

Moss still has two years left on his contract. He joined the Raiders in a trade that cost the Raiders the rights to the No. 7 pick and a seventh-round selection in the 2005 NFL draft, as well as middle linebacker Napoleon Harris.

The Raiders would have to trade Moss after the season or release him at any time for him to play elsewhere. Releasing Moss wouldn't require a significant salary-cap hit.

Shell and Raiders players could not be reached for comment because they were en route to Kansas City. Shell said Friday morning that he doesn't have a problem with his players speaking out, as long as they don't cross the line.

"You go too far, and I have to respond," Shell said.

i thought a few years ago, that moss would be the one that broke every single recieving record in the book.. i still think if moss didn't take plays off and played his ass off, he is the most dangerous wr in the league

If Parcells can handle T.O., I think Gibbs could handle R.M.

Enough big time offseason moves, he should of though of that before being an idiot in Minnesota. Now he somewhere where he dont want to be.

We can't have 4 High priced WR's.

3 is bad enough.

He's an excellent receiver when he tries, but I don't think wide receivers are what we really need right now.

MOSS WANTS OUT OF OAKLAND

To those of you who thought we were crazy when suggesting in the offseason that the Raiders and Randy Moss were heading for a divorce -- we were right.

For a change.

On Friday, Moss finally articulated in no uncertain terms a desire to get out of Oakland, after beating around the bush during multiple public comments over the past few months suggesting that it might be time for his second fresh start in less than two years.

Said Moss on FOX Sports Radio, only days after explaining that he's dropping passes because he's in a bad mood, "It's done sort of set in, man, and I'm tired of it. I might want to look forward to moving somewhere else next year to have another start and really feel good about going out here and playing football."

Moss has stopped short of demanding a trade or a release, likely because he's smart enough (barely) to recognize that owner Al Davis would sooner pay him to rot on the bench (see Allen, Marcus) than to give Moss his way. The only thing operating in the former Pro Bowler's favor is that he's due to earn $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008.

Put simply, it might not make sense from a cap standpoint to keep Moss around.

The best move? Trade Moss for a first-day draft pick. This year, the Raiders might have been able to get a first-rounder if they'd tried to move Moss before the October 17 deadline. If, after all, Deion Branch is worth a one, Moss should be, too.

But Moss has looked less like a star and more like a slug over the past month, and unless he steps up and catches balls and scores points over the last seven weeks of the season it'll be hard for anyone to justify making a deal.

Potential candidates, as we see it, are the Cowboys, if they part ways with Terrell Owens, the Redskins, and the Dolphins. Maybe the Jets, if quarterback Chad Pennington can lobby the powers-that-be to make a move. Maybe the Jaguars, if the Meathead can do the same.

Our money is on the Cowboys. Owner Jerry Jones has long regretted his decision to pass on Monday in the 1998 draft, and Mos has had some of his best performances in Texas Stadium.

But until his fate is resolved, Randy's best move will be to shut his mouth and play football.

Then again, it might not matter that he's talking. At one point in his career, if Moss burped the AP wire would report on what it smelled like. His most recent inflammatory remarks have barely caused a ripple.

I hope he retires. The last thing this team needs is randy moss to add to chemistry issues.

Hell lets just bring in Randy, Sinorice, and keep Santanta. :silly:

Why not? We do these types of things every year.

Then we could have threads just titled "moss"

The same exact thought came to my mind.....

....when I read "Randy" I thought, "I'd def. rather have Sinorice over that loser".

So shortly, No way in hell!

I definitely first thought Sinorice. But then I was like, he's a rookie, he can't be demanding a trade yet can he? But yeah, Randy is a slightly less cancerous T.O. with a funny accent. Like the one guy said, don't let Vinny see this thread. This guy is the LAST thing we need. He really isn't a Redskin player, just like Plummer wouldn't be.

TO has proven that he is best used as a CB. He has as many drops as Carlos Rogers.

In defense of Randy Moss.. He has the talent to be the best WR to ever play this game to date. The sad part is that he knows this and has a huge ego because of it. Randy needs a vet to provide leadership and make sure he doesn't act up. He is not that guy to provide leadership for a bunch of rookies or 'lesser talent'. Oakland's biggest problem is that they named Randy their team captain. What kind of leadership is he showing? He is proving that big name players can get away with anything.

What Art Shell should do is de-activate him and show his team that he is the man who runs it and not his players. Shell has already lost his team and another coaching change is in order. I think Moss realizes this and wants out.

We do not need another #1 WR unless they allow more than one football to be in play.

Why not.

We've signed just about everyone else.

This is the Redskins way. We will sign a few players this offseason just like every offseason.

BuryYourDuke

If we traded B-Lloyd it may not be the worst move ever. It still seems like he wouldn't fit in though. But knowing Vinny, we will probly trade our 1st rounder this year and next for him, and leave no picks for this draft.

Yeah, right after we trade for Randy Moss, we can go after T.O. and then for the trifecta we can go after Me-shawn! Randy is a loser, and a primadona let him rot in Oakland.

I think we have good receivers, we should just concentrate on Qb.If the Qb position is doing bad then nobody gets the ball and Randy wouldnt even matter.
