throw preseason prognastications out. i'd say throw your loyalty out, and answer honestly, but i don't want to ask too much of hokie4.
which bcs conference, right now, is the weakest? not in the long run, not last year, but RIGHT NOW.

Pac 10 they only have 2 teams in the BCS top 25

Answer honestly? Which one did the 'Eers vote for?
I'd think anybody who has their panties in a bunch so much as to post such a thread, it would have to be the BCS conference loyalty of the thread starter.
Big East, HANDS DOWN!
You need to get over the inferiority complex, Major. Seriously, I'm worried about you.

i'm glad you care. but just be happy in the fact that the pac 10 does give the acc a pretty good run for their money on this topic.

also, very telling, is the fact that there are 4 votes for the big east, but only 3 voters listed.....you wouldn't have taken the time to disable your cookies just to win a poll would you?

This is obviously a joke of a poll, judging from the votes. So I'm gonna stir the pot.

Votes for the ACC as of right now:
EersSkins05, jwebst1, Major Harris, PleaseBlitz, WVUforREDSKINS
I'd start singing "One of these things is not like the other," but I think that would be a lie. jwebst1, are you a WVU guy?
Neither the ACC nor the Big East are weakest. But how can I not vote Big East when their representatives do something this silly?

To really make this thread interesting, I'd like to see some voters reasons a la TSmith's reason for voting for the Pac10....it's one thing for a Big East fan to say the ACC is the weakest right now, anyone can do that, but I'd really like to know why.

I voted for the ACC this year (although my named doesn't show up for some reason) because its chock full of mediocre to bad teams. More so, imho, than any other conference.
The Pac10 rates slighly higher than the ACC because of USC (and USC alone) right now.

Big East is a bad football conference. Any quality team can look great given the competition. This year is a major abberation for the ACC, remember that.

Now I voted based on this year and this year alone. I'm an ACC guy but I'm sorry the ACC sucks this year. It's got a few decent to good teams but it seriously lacks any high caliber teams.

I voted for the Big XII. They're not getting trashed as much as they should nationally...this is an awful conference, particularly in the Big XII North.

My rankings
SEC
BIG 12
BIG 10
ACC
Big east
PAC 10
The PAC 10 is terrible. The SEC is great, and the rest are so so. Should be a fun bowl season.

The Big XII is awful; definitely last. They have an overrated Texas and Oklahoma, and nothing else. Pac-10 has a NC contender and the ACC has a half dozen solid, but not spectacular, Top 15-25 ranked teams. I would rate the Big Least just slightly higher than the ACC and Pac-10 because of the huge dropoff after Rutgers.

FYI - this will most likely be the 3rd time in the past 5 years that the ACC champ isn't rated in the top 12 of the BCS standings.

I think it'll be interesting to see how the bowls play out. Judging by the matchups I think it's very possible for the ACC to be at least 4-3.

The Big East has 3 mediocre teams in WVU, Rutgers, and Louisville
The ACC has 4 mediocre teams in VT, Wake Forest, Boston College, and Georgia Tech
the drop off after Rutgers in the Big East is greater than the drop off in the ACC (Clemson, Maryland, Miami, are better than USF, and Cinci, and Pitt)

USF would not beat Clemson...
I think the top of the BE is better this year. Louisville should beat WFU, though give Grobe a month and I think he'll put together a good gameplan and I doubt it'll be the blowout that I'm sure many will predict. I think the mid-section of the ACC is actually pretty good.
You have for your ACC bowls:
WFU-Louisville--Adv. Louisville
VT-UGA--Adv. VT
GT-WVU--Adv. WVU I suppose though I think it'll be close
Clemson-KY--Adv. Clemson
BC-Navy--Adv. BC
Maryland-Purdue--Adv. Push
FSU-UCLA--Adv. UCLA
Miami-Nevada Adv. Miami if they decide they want to play or win one more for Coker.

Eh, just based on how they play in "big games." Of course I'm biased and could be wrong but they are all pretty close I guess. Cincy and USF, being "middle of the road" BIG EAST teams really stepped it up in big games. Cincy, of course beating RU and USF beating WVU. Cincy also played OSU and VT tough until late in the game. Gotta give them credit for that.

I'm tired of these "play 'em tough" excuses when these teams end up losing by double digits. I'm betting Rutgers is a one-hit wonder. And honestly, I have zero doubt in my mind that had Rutgers come to Lane Stadium with a BCS bid on the line, the Hokies would've humiliated them by midway 3rd quarter. I find it funny how Eer fans claim they'd mop the floor with VT after Rutgers takes them to triple OT at home.
The Big East has and will forever have two decent teams who would be middle-tier teams in any other BCS conference in the country. Anybody who thinks it is NOT the weakest of the six BCS conferences with their lack of depth is either blinded by their own bias or smoking crack.

I don't think anyone is disputing that the top of the Big East is probably better than the top of the ACC. It's the rest of the ACC that's probably better than the Big East.

Curious question...why aren't the top 2 teams in the ACC playing in the top 2 bowls? What's the point of having a conference championship in the loser doesn't get the #2 spot in the bowls?

Well, Duke may be the worst DI team in the country. I'd also be willing to say that L'Ville and WV are better than WFU and GT. However, if you lineup the rest of the ACC vs the Big East---I'll take VT over Rutgers, and Clemson BC and Maryland all over the 4th best BE team.
The four extra schools comment is a valid one, though I'm simply trying to state that I think people will be suprised with how the ACC performs in the bowls.
TEG,
The ACC instituted a rule that a team can't be jumped by another team with 2 more ACC losses for bowl selections--thus GT was locked into the Gator, but not Peach--though Swofford retracted at halftime of the CG this commitment.
I suppose it's in place in case one half of the ACC is overwhelmingly better than the other.

Georgia Tech is awful. Actually, I take that back. Reggie BALL is awful. The ONE good game he's played in FOUR years just happened to be against us. Wake Forest is solid, not great, but solid.
Actually, I'd argue that Virginia Tech is the strongest and best team in the ACC right now. So basically, the "third" best team in the ACC would whoop the top of the Big East. And yes, VT would shut down that vaunted offense in Morgantown.
Now, if you want to talk about conference depth, there's no contest. The ACC was deep this year even without FSU and UM.

Well, I was breaking down matchups based on how the finished, with WFU and GT being 1 and 2, though I do think VT is playing the best ball in the ACC. They'd give either WV or L'ville a game on a neutral field for sure. I'll be in Miami--hope we can figure out how to slow down Brohm and co.
