View Full Version : ABC/ESPN is a joke

They have a say in the Rose Bowl and are going to be pushing hard for ND to get the bid rather than a much more talented LSU team. Let's get real, who wants to see a ND-Michigan rematch more than an LSU-Michigan matchup? Michigan is going to destroy ND if they play them in the Rose. If anyone was watching the ND-USC matchup Saturday on ABC, it was sickening how much Herb and co. were trying to hype up ND. F the Rose Bowl and ABC/ESPN if this goes down. ND is a joke.

I remember Michael Vick's last year, ND juked VT out of the Fiesta Bowl simply because.......well.....they're Notre Dame. Oregon State proceeded to whoop ND by 30+ points. I remember returning to campus and seeing "HOW 'BOUT THEM IRISH" signs everywhere. As f'd up as it is, I enjoy seeing those bastards get humiliated.

I am still pissed about that situation

Pissed that Trangeese didn't go to bat for VT like the Pac-10 commish went to bat for Oregon State

Pissed that a subpar ND team was on the big stage, while college football's biggest star in 2000 was playing in Jacksonville

Pissed that the number 5 team didn't get a BCS game

Pissed the Miami didn't play in the national championship when they beat BOTH FSU and VT, and FSU got to play in that game

ND vs Michigan would get a huge rating that is why they want to see it again, even though I do think LSU will play Michigan which would be a great game.

This whole BCS thing is starting to get interesting for Virginia Tech fans, and could really end up shafting LSU in the end

Here is the scenario which MIGHT get the Hokies into the Sugar Bowl (and this could change at any minute depending on the politicking)

First- Florida beats Arkansas to win the SEC and keep LSU out of the BCS top 4 (BCS top 4 gives you an auto bid)

Second- The Rose picks Notre Dame and Michigan. Remember ABC is still the network which carries the Rose bowl while Fox carries the rest of the BCS bowls

Third- The Fiesta has to pick the Big 12 champ to play Boise St. The bet is that SEC fans will not want to travel to the hot desert to see their team play Boise St

Fourth- Orange picks ACC champ vs Big East champ, which is basically a gurantee

That leaves the following BCS eligible teams available

LSU, Auburn, Arkansas (depending on how far they fall), maybe Rutgers if they beat WVU and Virginia Tech and depending on how the Big East shakes out possibly Louisville

Confused yet?

The reason VT has a chance in this to go to the Sugar. Virginia Tech has been to the Sugar 3 times in the last decade, each time bringing lots of fans who don't cause trouble and spend tons of cash

New Orleans is rebuilding and needs to fill the hotels, that is why LSU would be left out in this situation

On top of all of that, Ronald Burns is on the Sugar Bowl commitee. Who is he? He is Vinnie Burns' father, VT's punter from 2001-2004

Once again, this could all change at the drop of a hat without any notice

Everyday VT is not "released" by the BCS bowls and doesn't sign with the Peach Bowl is a good sign for the Hokies. The thing people need to remember is bowls do not choose the "best" teams, but pick teams that will fill their hotel rooms and spend lots of cash in their city

And the Sugar Bowl officials have seen Hokie fans take over Bourbon St three times in the last decade

Once again, this is a HUGE longshot, I give it a less then 5 percent chance of happening. But the scenario is out there for it to happen. If not for Katrina and New Orleans looking for a big boost this year, I would say we would already have our tickets for the Peach Bowl.

My gut feeling...... LSU ends up in the Rose, squashing this scenario

Don't you have to be in the top 12 BCS to be eligible? VPI is currently 14.

Top 14 with the added BCS game. Top 12 was with the old 4 BCS game system

Got ya..WVU will jump in front of VPI if/when they beart Rutgers this weekend. Who knew you would secretly be rooting for a WVU win...

That remains to be seen and could throw a wrench in this already long shot scenario

Both teams will be 10-2 but WVU will have a home loss to USF. If anything, Rutgers drops below both WVU and VT which helps our BCS ranking ever so slightly. Arkansas, if they lose could also drop, and if Nebraska beats Oklahoma, they would drop, pushing VT closer to top 10 in the BCS.

The fun of college football

We'll see what happens

What's even funnier, is that WVU still could win the BE and the auto BCS bid. UConn would have to do the improbable and beat ULou. WVU would have to beat Rutgers, then finish in front of ULou and Rutgers in the BCS standings.

A 3 way tie in the BE would result in the highest ranked team in the BCS getting the auto bid.

It's not going to happen...

I posted awhile back about the treatment ND gets.

If the NC or a BCS bid comes down to 3 or 4 teams and ND is one of them, they will get it regardless of any other factors.

This should irk every college football fan.

There is only one team specifically mentioned in the BCS charter. Notre Dame.

Which is why I wish the Big East would 86 them from the league (other sports).

Nothing, other than a VT fan was whining with him about ND. I made two statements. I love ND getting a BCS bowl and I hate VT.
