I'm sure this has been discussed before but the search resulted nothing. Why is it that other teams dont offer stock like the Packers? I would think there would be many fans that would jump on the chance to buy stock in their favorite team.:logo:

Other teams don't need to. The Redskins Growth has been unbelievable as is, and no stockholders need to be consulted on financial decisions? Prolly that.

I think the Packers were in dire financial straights when they sold shares, it was either the fans buy them, or the Packers pack up and leave.

If things kept going crazy, we could form a hostile takeover.

The CFL team in Saskatchewan had to do this a few years ago, it seemed to work fairly well.

It's up to the owner whether to go "public"...

Daniel Snyder (as with other owners) doesn't want to give up control of the team. That's why.

It would be nice though. Maybe have a dividend that increased everytime they get to the Super Bowl.

I believe the Packers are the only publicly-owned team in the NFL.

If we were to own a bit of the Redskins we need to have some say in the personnel decisions ;)

but as long as Snyder held 51% it wouldnt matter, and he could control how much was put out there.:2cents:

I'd buy some. I bet lots of people would. Then we would sadly all go broke.

They are the only currently publicly owned major league U.S. sports team. It is a non-profit team. The shareholders don't get a dividend and the stock doesn't appreciate, which sucks. There can be no hostile takeover (no individual can own more than 200,000 shares). In other words, it's pretty much a piece of paper saying you own a part of the Green Bay Packers. The only thing you get to do is vote on the Board of Directors.

A friend of mine has a share of the Packers, if I remember correctly the shares they sold are non-voting stock, mostly just something to say that you were an owner. :)

The whole point of "going public" is to pump cash flow into the company. Since Snyder doesn't need that, and almost no NFL team does, it won't happen. Why give up control and profit when you don't need to? The Boston Celtics are also publicly owned btw...

Yeah, the Boston Celtics are a publicly traded franchise on a stock exchange.

lol there is no way that Snyder will give up shares to the skins, he wants to own 100% of it and thats how it is. But yeah it would be freakin awesome if we could tho

Not anymore, the shareholders had to sell back their stock to an investment group called Boston Basketball Partnership. Wycliffe Grousbeck, who lead the investment group, is really the owner now. He bought the Celtics in 2002 for $360 million.

now that i think about it, we already know how much tickets are, and parking and all that nonsense, COULD YOU IMAGINE how much the stock would cost to be partial owner of a franchise that is worth in the billions

Publicly owned Franchises

I find it incredible that the packers are publicly owned. In somewhat of a jealous appease, I still call the Redskins my team, although I get no stock certificate or dividend (especially this year). Would anyone here like to see the Redskins owned by the public? I don’t think the Redskins will ever be in the kind of financial trouble that the Packers were in but besides that I would love to own a part of the Redskins.

Please I know that it will never happen (Daniel Snyder being only 1 of the reasons) but I thought some people would like to learn more about it.

snyder has no need to sell shares of the redskins company...He already has a few minority partners but im sure he owns like 80% of the team.

Funny, I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. I also came up with most of the same answers/thoughts that everyone else did (esp. hostile takeover). But on the other hand, what is the saying about letting the inmates run the prison??!!??

Could you imagine if we were making the picks? Oy vey!
