Colts coming on at right time
Indy jumps San Diego for top spot; NFC falling fast

Before taping my weekly chalk talk with Brooklyn D. the swimming suitmodel, I encountered Andrew P., who sits in the director's chair for this epic, and he asked to take a look at my rankings chart.
"I can't see one area of complaint this week," he said.
"Just one," I said.
"San Diego," he said. That's the one, all right, so let's clarify the reasoning right now. Last week the Chargers had just leapfrogged the Colts to take over the No. 2 spot, behind Chicago. With the Bears going down in Foxboro, the gold medal position was open, but guess what? Indy hopped up on top again. The Chargers had to overcome a blah day by Philip Rivers to overtake Oakland, while Indy was crushing Philly, and that will be my defense in court.
Believe me, folks, I know what I'm doing, and each entry in the big ledger labeled Power Rankings is carefully weighed, measured and outfitted in the appropriate garment.

It was third and eight late in the fourth quarter, the Skins were down by three to the Panthers, and Jason Campbell, making only his second varsity start, needed a play real bad. The formation was relayed in over his helmet transistor. But no play was forthcoming. The clock was running down. He smacked the side of the helmet. "This is Axis Sally," was what came through. "Our Panzer Divisions are waiting for you." He smacked it again. "That's four pepperoni, extra cheese, right?" he heard. Ah, the hell with this, and all on his own he called a quick post to his 265-pound tight end, Chris Cooley. Sixty six yards and two missed tackles later the Skins had seven and the game was theirs. Moral -- won't anybody try letting the QBs call their own game?
