LIONS FANS PLANNING WALK OUT
If the calendar says "December," it means that disgruntled denizens of Detroit are finding new ways to express their displeasure with the refusal of the Lions to poop-can President/CEO Matt Millen.
A year ago, an "Orange Out (http://www.thelionsfanatics.com/insider_news_177.html)" was proposed for a late-season game against the Bengals. The game was preceded by a "Millen Man March (http://www.bodogbeat.com/archives/2005/12/the_millen_marc.html)."
This time around, fans plan to get up and leave (http://www.geocities.com/lionsfan40/page5.html) with eight minutes remaining in the first half of the game against the Bears on December 24. It's a move reminiscent of the "walk out" staged by Orioles fans (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/orioles/2006-09-21-demonstration_x.htm) in September at the behest of "Nasty" Nestor Aparicio of WNST-AM radio in Baltimore.
Meanwhile, there's no truth to rumors that, with nine minutes remaining in the first half of the Bears game, the video board operator at Ford Field will display the following message: "ANYONE WHO LEAVES WITHIN THE NEXT TWO MINUTES OF THE GAME IS GAYER THAN JOEY HARRINGTON. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT." [Editor's note: We're not saying that Joey Harrington is gay.]

That would actually be awesome. It would also be a powerful tool to use. Millen wouldn't be able to ignore it.

Dude, living at Central Michigan sucks. All we get is Lions games on TV and it's pathetic. Fans are depressed and never talk about the Lions. At least back in South Bend, Notre Dame was something worth talking about.

I thought the wearing orange was a good idea last year.
Hopefully the Bears will give them a good reason to walk out before that. :silly:

And you know who the third is... Or at least before gibbs came back, the cards and lions were the only NFL franchises that the redskins had won more games than over the 13?14? years...

Well without the fans they wouldn't have a Business
I think it sends a powerfull message and will put the entire sports world on notice
If Dan Snyder think nothing of the fans walking out on the product he is putting out then we will find out alot about him :2cents:
I don't think we are at that point though
One more year of failed Free Agents and false hype will put me there though

How in the world does Matt Millen still have a job? I had a thread on this a week or two ago.
When he started, he made some great moves. Those decisions have long been forgotten.................and for good reason!
When the city, hell the country know how lousy he has been, how he still has a job is the question of the year!

The Lions were a good team under Fontes and even Bobby Ross. Having Barry Sanders didn't hurt. Since Millen took over, he has single-handedly run the team into the ground. He'll land on his feet if he gets fired. FOX will take him back.
I think Bang Cartoon accurately depicts Millen in its cartoons.

I'd be stunned if Millen survives after this season.
The Lions were a solid team for nearly a decade. Not great. They were up and down but a playoff contender pretty much every year or so and Millen has turned them into a laughingstock. He's had what, 3 coaches now? He's had his shot and has failed, it's time to go back to the broadcast booth and work on his John Madden imitation.

Not necessarily. That is a whole lot of people who are not paying for more beer, pop, hot dogs, hamburgers, and nachos at 300% mark up.

It is also making a statement to managememt..........:finger:
They already know he has run the team into the ground and he needs to go. It was a shocker when they hired him and to this day, never was able to understand the move.

if we did that, Snyder wouldn't care, he has a wait list with over 200,000 names already, and he has enough corporate seats he'd still sell, which is probably the majority of where his money from seat sales comes. I would be pretty torn if my number came next year suddenly (I was close to 145,000 in February 2004 when I put my name on there). I would probably try and buy the tickets, and Im sure many other wait listers would as well.
I say instead we just do some of the other things Detroit fans did, like the "Fire Millen" shirts or the Orange Out.

My wife has her undergrad degree from EMU. I really *SHOULD* be more supportive. But I don't know much about them. I'm originally from Ann Arbor. So with Univ. of Michigan being just 7 miles away, I tend to keep up with them more. Though as a teen, I hung out on both campuses. From my recollection. EMU is struggling at hoops this and last year too. The last real time they were any good was when the 5'5 Nugget gaurd Earl Boykins was there. I recall vividly how they blew-out Micheal Finley and Wisconsin back then. I believe in '97 or so. But they've struggled since. In football? Thank GOD for the NFL Sunday ticket on Directv. :applause:

lol yeah those Earl Boykins days were pretty good for you. We haven't had a good year since Chris Kaman left us. But like you I also come from a bigger college town (South Bend) so I keep up with the Irish more but I do go to CMU games and have done a football game on the radio that was awesome. The football team won the MAC this year so we're all pretty pumped especially for the Motor City Bowl even though Brian Kelly our coach left for Cincy, Middle Tennessee State people are talking a lot of smack lol.

In your honest opinion. Which visiting college team came to South Bend and represented. For Michigan, it was back in '91. The '91 Florida State Seminoles. QB's Casey Weldon, Brad Johnson, RB Amp Lee and the all american DB Terrell Buckley. I recall the very 1st play of the game. A pass from Michigan QB Elvis Grbac to WR Desmond Howard (Former Skin) was picked and returned for a TD by Buckley. I NEVER seen so many other fans. Not when Dame comes. Not Michigan State or Penn State or even Ohio State. Every Party Store, Every bar etc. FSU was there in bunches. In plenty of force! I recall being down town, and there was a mob of U of M fans yelling at a mob of FSU fans accross the street. Not only was FSU NOT intimidated. They gave just as much as they got. Then the game was a blow out. I knew Michigan would lose before hand though. What I saw leading up was only "Confirmation."

Shoot, everyone who comes to South Bend is usually represented pretty well. I've been to a LOT of games and of all the teams I would have to say that USC brings it the most since they are our biggest rival (not for me because I live in Michigan). UCLA had a few people this year, but it's mainly the Big 10 schools that represent besides USC. The order probably goes Purdue, Michigan close 2nd, Michigan State. I wasn't able to make it for the PSU game. Florida State actually didn't have that many folks last time they came to visit. I heard Miami represented hardcore though in the early 90's. I wish I was old enough to remember that.

It was FSU for me. They used to dig up your turf if they beat you also. Needless to say, FSU, Miami, USC, or Florida happens to NEVER be on the Skins regular season schedule. I think the 51-32 pounding U of M took in '91 had a TON to do with it. Florida State at that time was geeked coming off of having Deion. They were still pretty good a few yrs after, so they traveled well back then.

It's strange that they don't have that fire anymore, a lot of teams that had that swagger in the late 80's, early 90's have lost it:(
But I do loves me some college football :)

So true. Many fans who attend the Skins games either leave to beat traffic, or give up when they are losing. Pathetic really. Traffic is going to be a ***** regardless. Better to have a couple cold ones for the road and maybe get something to eat. Bottom line those tickets are not cheap, might as well hang out at FedEx. I only get to make it about twice a year so I like to savor it. It doesn't matter if it is a W or L. Although a win makes the ride home faster.

A strange true story. I lived in Alabama when Paul "Bear" Bryant died, and was here also when Bo died. It was tough on both states.

Lions-cheapest and worst owner ever. At some point you gotta know that it's not just the gm, coaches, or players. When you haven't won a championship since 1957 its ownership. And seeing as how bad as they suck you can't tell me Millen wouldn't have brought in some free agents, especially on d. But pretty much they did nothing. Millen is not the problem. His owner is a cheapskate. Same deal with the other worse team in the league-The Cardinals-cheap owners. Oh sure the CBA came up and everybody said he was a cheapskate. So he goes and gets Edge. Spent that money to shut up the critics, but didn't go after an offensive lineman with 10 mill in cap money left. Hmmmm............
