It seems that the Redskins really just pay for maybe 3 years of service for a FA player. Their contracts are huge but they are also backloaded. I think the appeal in terms of $$$ for the FAs coming to Washington is that they get a phat signing bonus and they know that their contracts are backloaded so in 3 years they will get released and be able to hunt for another good signing bonus or the Redskins will restructure and give them a good signing bonus. With this being the case, I don't really think the Skins will ever be in much cap trouble because of their cash inflow. My only real problem with the FA system is they give up draft picks. If they just over paid FAs and didn't trade picks I would be ok with it because I know they can handle it in terms of cap and finances.
