The last week of this season can mean a lot as far as 1st round draft position is concerned. If anybody knows how tie breakers work when ordering the draft picks, please help. I'm trying to figure out our worst case scenario versus the best case scenario. Here's the breakdown as far as I know:

We want all three of the following teams to win so that they don't get a better spot than us once we beat the Giants:
Miami (6-9) plays Indianapolis
Minnesota (6-9) plays St. Louis
(http://www.nfl.com/teams/news/SF)San Francisco (6-9) plays Denver

I'm not sure who has the tie breaker among these 5-10 teams, but we want Arizona and Houston to win so that our win over the Giants won't change anything:
Arizona (5-10) plays San Diego
(http://www.nfl.com/teams/news/HOU)Houston (5-10) plays Cleveland
Washington (5-10) plays NY Giants

If the Redskins do lose, we want both of these teams to win.
Cleveland (4-11) plays Houston
(http://www.nfl.com/teams/news/TB)Tampa Bay (4-11) Seattle

These two teams have the first and second pick locked up. Still, good luck to Detroit...
Detroit (2-13) plays Dallas
Oakland (2-13) plays NY Jets

As it stands, we are guaranteed a top ten pick as long as we don't trade it. Where will we really fall? It all depends on these games, I suppose.

we will have the fourth pick with...

Skins LOSS
Bucs WIN
Cardinals LOSS(maybe win, dunno the tiebreakers, but they are playing SD)
Texans WIN

Thats the best we can do.

Why would playing San Diego matter for Arizona?

because SD is clearly the better team and should win. i dunno if they have homefield locked up though, and whether they will be resting starters, especially LT.

OK This is who I am rooting for.

For the NFC I want these teams to win.

Washington
Philadelphia

Chicago

New Orleans

Minnesota

For the AFC I don't really care.

here is why.

1. A 7-9 team will make the playoffs
2. The pure hilarity that all 5 teams fighting their hardest for the final wild card spot LOSE.
3. The Packers would probably be the wild card winner based on the tie breakers because they would tie the panthers for best divisional record but the packers would have a better conference record ( I do not know the tiebreaker rules so if I am wrong on this one don't kill me)

How awesome would it be for Favre to get back to the playoffs 1 more time and I seriously think the packers could make a serious charge to the NFC championship since the NFC is so wishy-washy.

I am not a packers fan or a favre fan, but due to the retirement talks and criticism he has received he deserves a shot to go out on top.

The Giants make the playoffs if every 7-8 team loses......

ok fine then I want the packers to win then. I really don't understand this tiebreaker stuff. If the packs and the giants have the same record but the pack has a better division record and conference record why would they not have the edge?

Edit - Thanks to ESPN for explaning it to me. Giants get it because of common oponents. Giant won againt teams that the pack lost to.

It would suck if all 3 NFC east teams were in the playoffs.

I honestly don't care about any team winning unless it affects us somehow. There are a few exceptions to the rule. Namely, I ALWAYS want Dallas to lose, and I SOMETIMES want a good story like New Orleans coming back from oblivion. I could understand your desire for the Packers to win, though, because it would be a good story.

Who I'm cheering for...

The Redskins, of course.

Carolina, since I believe they are the team that is most capable of beating Philly in round 1 - see their 27-24 loss on December 4th at the Linc when they led as late as the 4th quarter.

The Packers, Falcons and Rams if Carolina loses, the Bears, Eagles, and Vikings if Carolina wins.
