View Full Version : Open Invitation to Participate in ES Fan Blog

ES members & guests,

As some of you know, I have been writing a Fan Blog (http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186173) for Redskins.com.

Not all Redskins fans (shockingly) frequent the various Redskins message boards. But a whole lot of those fans do read the main site. With that in mind, one thing I had hoped to incorporate from the beginning was a sampling what other Redskins fans are saying on the web.

As it turned out, I simply didn’t have the time to read enough to make a meaningful attempt at it. Heading into the off season, I’d like to try a different approach

Each week I’d like to include at least one “Best Of...” post from my fellow MB Redskins fans. Obviously no one has time to read every post written on every Redskins message board. So to give everyone a fair shot of getting “published” on the main Redskins site, I’m inviting anyone interested in doing so to forward their thoughts directly to me.

I don’t know if I’ll get zero, five or 500 submissions a week, so please bear with me as we streamline the process. Just know that I will read EVERY submission, and pick the one(s) I consider the very “best”--based on my own admittedly subjective judgment.

You have my word I will not select based on personal acquaintance. I’m comfortable that my personal acquaintances understand that without saying, and would expect nothing less. What I will be looking for is originality, insight, wit, timeliness (relevance) and quality writing.

Please keep your piece under 250 words.

For the record … I invite any fans reading this who frequent other Redskins message boards to extend this invitation there as well. At the end of the day, Redskins fans are Redskins fans--I’d like to think most of us still think that way.

If this works, my hope is to give greater voice to the fans. The Redskins afforded us this platform, and I think we should spread the wealth and take full advantage of it. And if it doesn’t work, hey, at least we’ll have tried … and we’ll just go on giving all those thousands of non-message board Redskins fans out there the impression that I speak for everybody.

Which, as I’m sure you’ll agree, is entirely too painful to contemplate.

Those interested should e-mail their piece to om@extremeskins.com, by no later than midnight every Monday. I do have a deadline, and will need time to review submissions, select and then incorporate one or more into the blog. If it turns out I DO get 500 emails, we’ll probably be moving that Monday deadline up a bit.

Please include either your real name (if you’d like me to use it), or the user name you’d prefer, for attribution.

So that’s about it. If you have any questions, post ‘em here and we’ll try to figure an answer.

Hail… and I hope to hear from you soon.

M.

Sounds pretty cool Om, I'm not articulate enough to participate, but plenty of people here are. I hope it goes over well and I look forward to reading a variety of blogs.

I realize putting a "word count" limit can create the impression I'm looking for a certain length piece. I'm not. If you can do what I cannot--say something meaningful in 50 words--please DO IT. :)

I'm just trying to avoid getting beautifully crafted essays that I have to "reject" simply because once I add MY two cents, we're suddenly talking War and Peace and the Redskins have to shoot us both at dawn. That would suck.

I definitely am not articulate enough, but I'm hoping that my sarcasm and wit and basic close-mindedness will be adequate enough to get me published.

By the way, can I put that on my resume if I am lucky enough to be selected?

And, just so you know, 250 words is well past my limit --

3) And, just so you know, 250 words is well past my limit --

1) If your particular brand of sarcasm, wit and close-mindedness are the "best" received in a given week, you have a chance.

2) Yes. For a small fee.

3) Good. It generally takes me that many to get started, so we'll get along fine.

Great! I've transcribed Lord of the Rings replacing "Frodo" with "Clinton", "ring" with "football", and "Gandolf" with "Joe Gibbs".

Still promise you will read them all? ;)

Will Redskins.com and ES frown on plagiarism? :)

Your the one guy I would think would have a great chance to score on this offer, become famous, and we all could say I read him long before he became the star reporter for the Washington Post.

Okay. All kidding aside. I'll keep an eye out Om. There really are some good posts out there and will see what I can do to help, ( I'll just put myself on ignore. That should weed out some of nonsense right there ;) )

Gee. I appreciate that. :)

But it's a long way from "Titan cheerleader beauty contest" to the Washington Post.

Plus, if I got a job there, I'd have to stop being a Redskin fan.
