we'll cut archuletta and get 5 mil in deadcap for 07 while archuletta goes on to have a great(pro-bowl even)calibre season for a team that uses him to his strengths...

It's possible. The next team will sign him for dirt cheap too. A smart defensive coordinator will use him to his strengths and I am sure he will have a fine season. Another black eye for the Redskins "FO"...what a joke.

the cap hit for Archuleta will be $1.83 million in 2007 and $6 million in 2008 if the Redskins manage the release the way I think they will timewise.

but I agree that this is additional resources flushed down the toilet for no return.

some say it is only money and it is Dan Snyder's money.

but the truth is it is MY money and the money of every fan that pays the highest ticket prices in the NFL and the highest parking fees, and the highest food prices in order to come out and see the games.

not to mention the merchandise purchases and the like.

time for people to wake up.

Ravens tickets are $20 per less than Redskins tickets, meanwhile the Redskins stadium seats 20,000 more fans.

We'd have to change the system apparently...

I can see AA playing for the Bears next year for a extremely low salary after taking The Dans money. I can also see AA making the probowl or come back player of the year.

Lovie actually knows how to use him in a defense.

I hope it happens too. Arch is getting effed without the good feeling.

The irony hear is that Oakland actually has a really good D (4th). Just a horrible offense.

Lets say AA does go to Chicago...we play them next year and he'll be perfoming well to his advantages and then everyone on here will be wanting him back in a Redskins uniform after he uses his skills to defend the rushing game and blitz. Another player gone from the Redskins that will perform better than ever on another team.

Why we didn't use him as a SLB I'll never know.

I dunno.. this is the life of a Redskins fan. He will leave and play well somewhere else, and we will be stuck in the same rut... busy finding someone else to let go to play great somewhere else

that is what happens to ever Redskin player that leaves....they go on to BIGGER and BETTER things. Funny how Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson won superbowls AFTER they left here. Not to be a downer but Stephen Davis is averaging 5 yards a carry on the Rams and they are going to the playoffs but we are trying to play spoiler to a sorry team like the Giants. come one now. havent you learned, we train them, then they go elsewhere and win!!!

I don't understand any of it.

The book on Archuleta was that he could tackle but not cover. He sometimes took bad angles. He was injury-prone... 14 injuries in five seasons including five concussions. And yet, we brought him in and made him the highest paid safety in the NFL.

Since we have been told that Gregg Williams has lots of juice in player selection, my guess was that Adam was brought in to play Buddy Ryan's 46 (safety primarily in run support) to allow our DE to take a wider split for a better pass rush (as Philip Daniels did in finishing 2005 with a bunch of sacks).

Except for the huge contract, the acquistion made a little sense that way. But none of it happened.

I think there's more to this situation than Archuleta's play on the field. I suspect we have a clash of egos involved with this fiasco.

Trent Dilfer played for Tampa Bay not Washington.

bulldog, that depends on the actual wording of his contract around the $5m option bonus due in March.

There are alot of views on this floating around the media right now, but from the information I have there is nothing to suggest the $5m option bonus was protected in any way (providing he's released prior to the option year and bonus falling due).

If its not, then we escape with only having to live with the $4m dead cap (the oustanding prorated amount from his original signing bonus).

Given if his option was exercised he would have counted $2.428m in 2007, escaping with only a further $1.572m in net cost in 2007 and nothing falling into 2008 would be a minor miracle.

Well, not to be nitpicky or anything Oldfan...

BUT, of Daniel's eight total sacks for 2005, half of them came in one game against a Dallas rookie T....;)

AA is out of here, just another free agent BUST and dead cap money on the books. Is this any way to run a successful franchise???

Highly doubtful. Contrary to popular belief, not all ex Redskins end up in the Pro Bowl. This is one of those cases I think. Though coming off of some back problems, he still wasn't lighting it up before coming to the Redskins.

It is inevitable. This just shows how we need a sound FO that has equal billing at the table. GW needs to allow personnel matters to be decided by those who know better. Another bad year on the defensive side and I expect the axe to fall and fall hard.

Golly, I guess we're the first team to ever pay too much for a player who turns out to be a bust...

Anyone willing to let Carter go after this second half of the season? How about Randle El? Lloyd? That's 3 for 4 last year. What about Moss? Washington? Springs?

The Skins have the money to get players they want...some teams don't. I'd hate to not even take a chance on a player or not get the player we think will help us.

The Cardinals do a great job of managing their cap and evaluating talent!

I'm sure if we cut prices and lost, everybody would be happy...

And we didn't lose this year because of talent...it was because of injuries on our defense...nagging injuries to key players. It goes like that some years.

I really have a sick feeling about GW. I hope I'm wrong and he turns it around. But a 'genius' would find a way to use all the talent available to him. Jim Jackson at Philly for example. He had a masterful gameplan vs the Cowboys. And outside of Dawkins I can't think of anyone on their team that I'd like to see replace a Redskin defender.

Cooley will have a field day executing a game plan that isolates AA in coverage

"And we didn't lose this year because of talent...it was because of injuries on our defense...nagging injuries to key players. It goes like that some years."

what dream world are you living in?

1) Injuries become a major problem if depth stinks.

2) FA signings did not pan out.

3) The offseason OTAs and preseason strategy was totally botched.

4) The initial QB was physically limitted and misfiring.

5) The Lbs have not been injured....save for Washington at the end of the year...and have stunk all year long.

6) There has been no consistent pass rush....whether Griffin is in or out.

7) The O-line was horrible at the beginning of the season...especially in open field blocking.

pass some of what you are smokin to the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the same type of treatment LaVar got...GW...YOU SUCK!!! This is embarrasing to the entire franchise. Now we are starting to understand why GW was fired in Buffalo.

How much of this do we think goes back to Steve Jackson? According to a "veteran" on the team, there was some tension there beginning early on. It also seems to be a trend of a lack of communication between coaches and players in the doghouse. Of course, this is just the information we're privvy to and I'm sure there's probalby more to it.
