View Full Version : Should the Redskins have put Archuletta on IR

Once they determined that they were not going to play him, do you think that the 'skins should have shelved Archuletta on IR. Everyone could have saved face. Adam and the team could have said that he twisted an ankle in practice. It'd be a done issue. Other players have been stashed away with minor injuries on IR. I think it certainly would have been a better solution than keeping him on the sideline and just never using him. The whole discussion, at least to the outside world, would have been different. Perhaps, even the team outlook about how the guy had been abused would be different, because once on IR your done for the year. No one is doing anything to you anymore.
Would this have been a totally crazy idea? IR as the doghouse?

Not if he has any kind of injury at all. Football players always have something ailing them.
Heck, I've heard of players being put on IR for a bruised ego.

Yes it's crazy to pay someone the highest salary in the history of his position only to put him on the IR.........when he's not even injured!!!! Get whatever value you can get from a bust that is going to hurt our salary cap after the year, but at least utilize this debacle the best way you can......even if it means being a 'Position Protector' or w/e and playing special teams. I hate that we even have to talk about this.

This is against the rules with the union. The union would argue that if he was being stashed or punished that would make him a free agent. You could always have him inactive - 7 guys on the roster are inactive every week any way.

I think GW's reason to sit him every game is to remind others that nobody is exempt from losing their starting position. It obviously did not work and in fact it might have back fired on GW this year. I think he has lost most of his defensive starters.

That's what I think too. I think because AA has handled his demotion so quietly and with dignity that it really makes Williams look petty. In that game when Vincent and Fox got dinged up, Archuletta still wasn't the fourth best safety ijn that game? I worry that Williams have lost the heart of the d and if he really has, if he can recapture them. There have been so manny games where it looked like (especially in the second half) that the D just quit.

Who would be punt protector huh? This guy is one of the most feared punt protectors in the leauge thats why we paid him so much. Not sure why you did not think about this but its pretty damn clear this guy can protect Frost like no one ever has before  .

That's pretty funny, CPortJGibbs89 and a valid point too, :) Our special teams have been our best producing unit all season. Is it no surprise that AA has been a mainstay there as the PPP.
