NFL Network Announcers are painful to listen to

Who's idea was it to bring in Bryant Gumbel and Cris Collinsworth? And that comment about nfl scouts just wanting to see players in their underwear, where in god's name did that come from? Good Lord, and Gumbel had to be the absolute whites........ im not gonna go there, but he was pretty boring to listen to, I will just say that much.


P.S. I am so tired of people flopping it's really getting annoying. That flop had Andres Nocioni's name written all over it. If you don't know what I'm talking about mention the name "Nocioni" to a Wizards fan in regard to the Washington Wizards versus the Chicago Bulls in the NBA playoffs two years ago. They will tell you all you need to know.

Yeah, I was forced to listen to Mr. Gumbel last night. I normally listen to Sonny and Sam on the radio but couldn't find them due to the Virginia Tech game. Gumble kept saying that the Giants were turning the ball over on downs. No, #$%head, turning the ball over on downs is when you go for it on 4th down and don't get it. The other time is called a PUNT!!!

If the NFL Network is gonna make us watch the game on their channel, they should think about upgrading their annoucers.

I like Collinsworth a lot better on NFLN than when he was with Fox. Gumbell is funny to listen to. Notice how high his voice gets when he asks a question.

Yeah that whole "turning the ball over on downs" thing did confuse me as well. But right before the end of the third quarter my friends and I couldn't take it anymore and just put the tv on mute and put on an Outkast cd "Southernplayalisticcaddilacmusic" and amazingly as soon as the cd started the skins started playing better. The cd ended and the next play was that 4th and 10 pass. Strange....

I do listen to the Bang Cartoon Radio Hour, it's the best sports podcast ever, I laugh my ass off when you guys make fun of the announcers, and please, please, please get the audio of Collinsworth saying that all the nfl scouts and the combine want to do is see the players in their underwear, that has to be the single gayest comment I have ever heard in my life, he was also wearing a turtleneck when he said that. What was also funny was when he said that the entire room when silent for a couple seconds and then erupted with laughter.

How in the name of God a man could work in sports for 25-30 years and not know what giving the ball up on downs is. Gumbel is a tool extraordinaire. That was exceedingly painful to listen to. And shame on Collingsworth for not correcting him. :nono:

That was the most entertaining portion of the broadcast! I've watched the other games on the NFLN and Gumble is just horrible. I like Colinsworth because he is insightful without the John Madden over the top rambling. But Gumble is terrible. Since Gumble will cry racism (he has a history of playing the race card whenever it suits him or helps him make a point regardless of the actual facts) if he were dismissed, he'll be on NFLN for as long as he wants to be.

If they want a Gumble in the booth, get his brother, who is excellent, in my opinion.

I dont think it was Chris I thought it was Gumbel, because I remember it happening once when Chris was talking.....I also was going to start a thread on this as well I can not stand Braynt Gumbel. NFL Network has a long way to go...BG just sinks, half the time I dont think he knows what the hell he is talking about... I did think that Chris was OK.... :logo:

What the skins need to do is win more games. We always get the worst crews, ex. Maas, Baldinger. Hopefully the NFL Network will realize how bad Gumbel is and get a new crew next year. I was trying to get a chant "Gumbel sucks" started in the stands. No one would participate though. Could you imagine if we had the whole stadium chanting this? That would have been classic!

I think Collinsworth is actually pretty good.....he adds comments that are informative and he says things that most commentators wouldn't say. He also says things a lot of us fans are thinking such as when he points out some bogus NFL rules.
Bryant Gumbel is brutal as a play-by-play man. I'd rather see Mike Patrick with Collinsworth. They'd be a better team.

This has been a lousy year for announcing, the NFL tag-team morons showed how incapable they are, and Kornheiser and Theismann gave me the same sensation as chewing aluminum foil might. Hopefully next year we'll see some upgrades in these as well as our D

to be fair to collinsworth (and that seems a novelty around here!) his 'naked' comment was having a go at himself - he was trying to follow up with what the scouts would have made of his not exactly Charles Atlas physique but that was lost after the initial comment! Collinsworth was spot-on when he analysed the 'skins D lined up against the run and predicted that with that formation Tiki would get 200 +...very next play Barber went in and just kept going from there.

Bryant also said "walla walla" clear as a bell last night, and while not funny on it's own, mix it in with him saying "persnickety" and all the other ridiculous things we have him saying, and it's bound to be funny.

Who should we call on the phone this week? I'm thinking maybe Jim Mora jr.
