No floss here and haven't had a cavity in over 10 years. Listerine 3 times a day instead of flossing for me.

Wrong answer...I had that opinion to when I was young...never had cavities until I got a bad tooth infection one day and found out that while my teeth were clean and cavity free pockets were forming around the roots and eating my jaw bone away. Please floss and go to dentist once a year...don't make the mistake I did.

maybe you have cavities but your lack of seeing a dentist means you haven't been diagnosed.

If you have never flossed I suggest you try once and see what kind of stuff gets missed by brushing. I have two or three spots that hold an unbelievable amount of food particles that will not come out any other way.

I haven't been to the dentist since I was about 10 years old. I floss from time to time, use listerine daily and brush my teeth at least 2 times a day. I'm pretty sure they're fine but I am somewhat curious.

I thought I was good at brushing my teeth, but I flossed once and I was amazed at how much food would get trapped in certain places. I floss regularly now.

Not really, in between brushing and flossing there were a few too many fights.

But you should see the other guys ;)

If you don't floss, or don't do it often enough, get yourself one of those sonic toothbrushes. Those things are awesome. Your mouth will feel much better than regular brushing.

I've never had a cavity and never really flossed until about 6 months ago. Went for my annual exam and found that my teeth have ridges below the gum line which causes irritation, bacteria and pockets to form preventing your gums from attaching properly to the root. I had to have surgery to remove the unhealthy gum and reform a few teeth below the gum line. This allowed my gums to re-attach to the tooth. Now I floss daily and brush twice. Very seldom do I have any bleeding at all and my teeth feel a thousand times better.

So, those little plastic things with the floss are great and the surgery hurt like a biatch so flossing is good.

Alright man, you've convinced me. You had me at "surgery"

Good grief, that must have been a hellacious recovery.

It wasn't as bad as say, wisdom teeth but it wasn't pleasant. They just cut away the unhealthy gum allowing the good stuff to get oxygen and grow back healthy. Nothing I want to have done again so flossing is much less painful.

Also I've read a few articles where doctors belive unhealthy oral hygiene can lead to all kind of sickness and can possibly cause some diseases. Been a while since I read the article so I can't say exactly what was said but it can't be good having teeth rotting below the gumline.

word. takes less than a minute to floss with those bad boys. I do it every couple days. Listerine is the best, too.

Man, where did you find a pic of that? Anything on google, I guess.

let me tell you, you should find out.

i hate the dentist. always have, always will. pretty sure the dentist hated me back when i was a kid, because i was always vomiting all over him and his stupid little tools. so when mom couldn't make me go anymore, i quit going. that was about 12 years ago.

then, about 2. 5 months or so ago, an old filling fell out. i decided it was time to go back. go and get the cleaning and diagnosis, the dentist immediately makes 2 appointments.

i sit in the chair, and he breaks out the damn grinder. starts going to work, and i notice that the tooth he's working on is down to about 50% before he fills it back in. i was there for 50 minutes, all for one tooth.

he makes another appointment. repeat scenario for another tooth. i have a 3rd appointment this tuesday.

of course, i didn't take great care of my teeth on top of not going to the dentist. i'm regretting it all now.

i'm always reminded of bill cosby "himself" when discussing dentists:

"dentists tell you not to pick your teeth with any sharp, metal objects. you sit in their chair, and the first thing they pull out is an iron hook..." good stuff.

My Dad didn't go to the dentist for about 15-20 years or so. Then, about 5 years ago, he was finally dragged there by his girlfriend at the time. He went in, and found out he needed about $25,000 worth of dental work done; root canals, crowns, fillings, pretty much the works - every tooth needed work. It was either that, or pay $4000 for the doc to pull all his teeth and give him full dentures (he already had a partial). So he opted for the 4K over the 20K, and now has exactly 4 out of 32 of his own teeth left.

Not to mention the couple weeks after you get all your teeth pulled out is pure hell, as you can probably imagine. IMO, the discomfort of going to the dentist twice a year FAR outweighs the potential discomfort of a major procedure, such as a root canal. :)

Dentists are like car mechanics. OF COURSE they are going to tell you that you need $25,000 worth of **** done, because WHO gets the $25,000?

Exactly, the dentist.

So.....your dad had to be DRAGGED there by his g/f? Meaning, he didnt need to go because his tooth hurt, much less ALL his teeth. Then all of a sudden his grill is in complete shambles because some quack with a Benz payment to makes says so?

**** a dentist.

He was dragged there because he had chronic toothaches, but never bothered with getting them checked out. Finally the pain got so bad when he was eating and such, that he let himself get taken.

I can't tell if you're joking or serious, but if you are serious, then please go to the dentist. Comparing him to a car mechanic might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. :silly:

No pain is worse than an infected tooth IME. Only problem I've found with the 2 I had a problem with is that they snapped off rather than pulling the whole tooth out.

Guess I don't make a very good dentist.
