View Full Version : Seriously, is this site that important?

Look, I enjoy this site as much as the next person, I could even say that I'm a bit addicted to it. But you know what? I can step away from it if I need to.

Are people so addicted to this site that they can't step away from it, willingly? I'm not trying to judge anyone, or anything like that. I'm just trying to figure out how people can't step away from this site long enough to save their marriage, for example, or those who just can't function because this site is taking them away from living normal lives. I mean, if your relationship is that bad, maybe you don't deserve to be in one? :whoknows:

Is this site that big of a deal? We have people commiting hari-kari just to get away from the site. Then others are having candlelight vigils in memoriam of those now departed. I just can't bring myself to feel sorry for anyone who would willingly ban themselves, then make a big scene about it in the process.

You've been hanging around the "Russian roulette" thread too much. Those are the extremists. My excuse is, either I'm bored at work or I just came home from a bar with friends and I'm drunk. BTW, are you the person that redskins2redskins was talking about ? ;)

I have a serious girlfriend and I am frequently checking Eagle sites all day. It does annoy her a bit (she doesn't like football and I sometimes talk about them too much). But if she came to me and said she was feeling put on the backburner because I was so into football I know that I could easily take a step back from it and put her first again in my life. To say that you're so addicted to a website that you need to "ban yourself" or force yourself to never log on again, well, that's absurd.

I think if you have that much of a problem you don't deserve the internet or a relationship anyway. I really liked those people who were banned but it is mind boggling.

I concur. Just get their emails or something and talk to them- ES message boards aren't the only form of communication.

Is this the anti DeanCollins/honorary_hog mancrush thread?

I agree that it's kind of weird that people have to commit suicide-by-mod, but the mods created a thread and people are using it - it's a pretty interesting message board phenomenon.

...and I don't think people are necessarily feeling sorry for the people that left, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to miss people that I have enjoyed talking with on this site, and having a thread to do that isn't so crazy.

I don't think thats what SSM meant. I know SSM liked both of those people. But it just seems a little over the top to mention your failing marriage and this website in the same breath. When you hear that you think to yourself "A website is causing this much distress in a MARRIAGE??"

But sometimes removing the crutch is what people need. I'm not going to pretend to know better than they do about the best way to deal with their problems.

Why even attempt to safeguard SSM on this one? If he gets banned for it, its stupid... but it ultimately doesn't mean much. It's just a forum and if there is anyone on here you truly enjoy the company of and would miss, you should have other means to contact them by.

Honestly, never even cared enough to think it through that far. Read the link someone posted, realized that because of my post the rules might've been broken, and apologized. Honestly, we'll all be replaced with other knuckleheads if we leave. Just didnt' want to bring a subject into a thread that shouldn't have been, that's all.

Anyone who uses this site for more then a little down time here and there needs to evaluate their life. This site is a fun place to talk football and many other things, but the minute people start planning their life and what not around a website then something is wrong. I would be embarrased.

I don't think ANY site is that important, maybe that's why they decided to leave the way they all did,who knows...............

I know redskins2redskins from another site, and I don't believe that she left because this site was affecting her marriage or keeping her from saving it.
I'm not sure why she left I'm going to have to try and get the scoop.

This board seems pretty cool. I've been lurking on here for quite sometime and since so many are leaving I may start posting more,if there is a topic worth putting my :2cents: in.

I'm sorry but women are secondary to sport. Sport holds interest longer than 3 minutes of pre-orgasmic bliss. How many women have you had in your bed where you wished they'd just DISAPPEAR as soon as your coitus erectus subsided?? How many times do you wish the Redskins would disappear after a touchdown? Huh! Case proven.

With all due respect, if I remember correctly, women come without instructions. As it is, women are difficult machines to operate, I find...push one button and nothing happens...push another and something weird happens..or gooey. Was that meant to happen? I'm left wondering. Ask yourself this: when you're with a woman "performing", how many people are watching? None? How many people watch the Redskins at FedEx? Hmmm...

This gets funnier all the time. I'll agree that women come without instructions, but if you listen they can be very good teachers. After 10 years of marriage I've become a pretty good operator, and trust me I know what does what and what's supposed to happen. And when I'm with my wife, I don't need an audience, because my performance is for one person and one person alone.

BTW, if you really need instructions simply go to amazon.com, they've probably got some books that can help ya.;)

1) I said in my first post that I wasn't trying to judge anyone. I know that it may seem that way. But I tried very hard to not judge anyone. It is definitely true that we all have our vices. Hell, I'm a computer geek, I know all about vices. But, I guess it's just a bit tough to understand how this site is so addictive, that people have allowed it to hinder their actually lives.

2) I was in no way trying to call out HH. I like HH, a lot, always have and always will. If I were to talk to HH face to face, I would say the same things I said in my first post, to his face, mainly because I'm not trying to insult or call out anyone, just trying to ask a serious question. I know people who seem to be good friends with HH. I had seen references to people leaving the site in order to save their marriage (not necessarily on ES, remember I know a lot of people on this board personally too). I was just a little confused about the thought process there.

3) I think you're blowing my words well out of proportion here. Anyone who knows me well can tell you that I tend to use humor and sarcasm in a serious nature. The "candlelight vigil" comment was made jokingly. Trying to lighten the situation up a little. Maybe I should have used a smilie. But I wasn't trying to sensationalize the situation at all.

Adam, I think what Blighty here is saying, is that he doesn't want to have sex with women. I can't say that I agree with that line of thinking.

I will back up Joe in saying he doesn't agree with that line of thinking. I'm nearly certain, if it's human, has some semblance of breasts and nothing swinging down below, he WILL :hump: it. The human part may not even be a necessary prerequisite :D

it's one thing to say you won't do something, it's another to not do it. you said you weren't judging, but your post came across that way, imo.

i just thought using an obvious reference to hog's last post wasn't necessary. your message about over-valuing (sp?) this site was clear without that.

I don't need a book from Amazon, cos I don't blimming well listen to women. "Do you like this...no?...well, here's a cuppa tea...you like to do what?...let's have a cuppa tea and discuss it...oh look! It's tea time.". And yes, tea is important in the bedroom, thats why I have a tea-maker alarm clock. So you have a choice: 3rd and 4 on the 20 and Redskins have the football...or your bird comes in wearing a skimpy negligent. I use the diversionary tactic and put the kettle on...cuppa tea will last her for at least ten minutes...may change her mood, if I'm lucky. :applause:

Agreed. That's why I said I was trying not to judge anyone. All of us in some way or another are a bit judgmental. I typed that post, and I spent a good deal of time trying not to make it sound judgmental. I realized that there was no way to not be judgmental. Maybe using the term "judgmental" is the wrong choice of words. I would say that I'm more-so open-minded to why people overvalue this site.

Apparently there is a whole undercurrent of stuff here that I am blissfully unaware of.

to the question.. no, this site isn't so important as to revolve my day around, BUT, i do very much enjoy the debates in here. There's some really smart people on this site, and it's a pleasure to be able to compare ideas and match wits.
Sometimes i do spend too much time in here and it gets in the way of some time i could spend being productive, but that is when i get heavy into one of the debates and it is going back and forth.
Personally, sometimes I think engaging in these debates IS productive.. it's a very good brain exercise. Some of you guys have WAY more education than I do.. hell, I'd say MOST of you do. To find out that what I think is valid and in some cases actually respected is a good boost for me. A lot of you aren't my peers... you're above my peer group in terms of the education level. To hold my own with a lot of you is a bit of a kick for me.
For me it's a great thing to be able to discuss some touchy issues with some very intelligent people. I find it very interesting even to just browse in threads I don't participate in to see how people think.. not necessarily individuals, as a group we're a really good microcosm of the whole spectrum of opinions.

It's actually funny that you should say that. I was just talking to Who Del earlier about that. I was saying that a lot of my good friends have been made through this site (Candace, Pez, Huly, Matt [WhoDel], Adam [DCSports], Greg [EA], Karla [GeorgiaRedskin] and many more). Those relationships are extremely important to me. I'd trust all of those people with my life. I'm not trying to question the relationships built through this site. We were talking about the suicide thread, and had wondered why it was such a big deal being made out of it.

I agree very much with Bang, this place is a community and I too find it rewarding being part of this community, and it is a cross section of our society. We come here from all parts and all thoughts and we agree to engage each other in discussion and debate on all types of matters. By coming here we leave the comfort of staying in our own thought groups and we can truly begin to learn, change, and at times maybe even teach. Extremeskins.com is a place I very much like being a part of, and since my school removed the campus internet message board its the only place that I have to engage in these type of debates; plus it forces me out of my ivory tower and forces me to thoughtfully interact with varying points of view. I for one am here to stay, much to the chagrin of some.;)

Depends on the person. There have been some people here who have overreacted to being banned (Free jrock! :paranoid: ) without really fully continuing on with their normal lives and there are others who have stuck around when they really shouldn't have. In either case, it just comes down to failure to prioritize. As I've said before, if you have friends here the board should not be your only way of contacting them.

Then spend the next few hours (or days, depending on how clueless they are when it comes to 'getting it') explaining to them that A) they're wrong, B) they need to actually comprehend what was written & not try to spin it like I'm just out to get them & C) I end up calling them ****ing stupid in a round-a-bout backhanded type way. You got something to say, just say it. I post a lot, yeah. I happen to have the magical ability to type at around 100 words per minute, so I can poST phaST in a short amount of time.

Talking smack? I was poking fun at you and wasn't even being judgmental. I never assumed you were desperate to get back on the board, it was just funny to me that you PMed a number of people to petition for your own unbanning.

So it would naturally lead that if I thought it was funny that I'd make a joke about it. Evidently, though, based on your reaction I may not have been far off from the truth if it had been intended as a serious comment...

Oh and...

Your boyfriend attempted to make an observation about me that he has no clue about.

That's an awfully petty statement. Way to leave a good impression and further your cause! :silly:

It's either that, or say something to someone that's been trying to hi-jack this thread, that they will completely misinterpret. Sometimes, it just ain't worth the aggravation. So I end up just chillin with a bag of Orville's finest & a Coke. And when that's done, I just :kickcan:

I'll give you a hint....all the staff here would have to do is post a thread asking members to please refrain from putting sharp objects in their rectums.

We could keep ER's all over America busy for months.

But first there would be a 15 page debate in the Tailgate relating to which type of objects are acceptable and what is the proper method for sharpening said objects. And then whose fault is is that they were subsequently removed more quickly than the troops from Iraq.

Whatever you all do PLEASE refrain from posting pics in the Show Yourselves thread.

You guys can't refrain yourselves from talking about it.. Me thinks you guys have a problem.
