Okay, so name a movie you'd like to see re-made, and cast all the main characters and pick a director.
Personally, I'd like to see Dune remade, directed by Peter Jackson (talk about a movie that needs an epic director).
Paul Atreides - Leonardo DiCaprio
Leo Atreides - Sean Connery
Jessica Atreides - Famke Janssen
Thurfir Hawat - David Carradine
Duncan Idaho - Jason Statham
Gurney Halleck - Tom Sizemore
Baron Von Harkonnen - Jack Nicholson in a fat suit (he does sleazy/evil so well)
Feyd-Rautha - Ryan Phillipe
Dr. Wellington Yueh - Chow Yun-Fat

Honestly, I'm tired of re-makes. I want new blood, new ideas, and something that speaks to the modern condition.
Then again, who wouldn't want to see a remake of Ishtar, Caspar the Friendly Ghost, or Scooby Doo. All of those movies could have been so much more... (actually, your idea of redoing duds isn't as bad, but you know they generally pick classics to redo. Do we really need to see Casablanca starring Adam Sandler?

I'd like to see them remake The Shining with that guy from Wings. I think that would be swell. :)

Movie: Inherit the Wind (because apparently the United States has reverted 50 years to the point that 30% of Americans don't believe in evolution, and a remake is necessary)
Cast:
Anthony Hopkins: Henry Drummond
Kevin Spacey: Matthew Harrison Brady
Steve Carell: E. K. Hornbeck
Matt Damon: Bertram T. Cates
Scarlett Johannson (eye candy): Rachel Brown
George Clooney: Rev. Jeremiah Brown

I think they already re-made dune...and it looks horrible. Sting was awesome in the original. But your re-make looks like it would have a better shot. And with effects today, Dunw would be an AWESOME remake.

Yeah, I figure with today's special effects and such, Dune could be amazing. If they can make LOTR that friggin' cool, Dune could be as well.
BTW - Dune with Sting was the original I believe - and it was TERRIBLE!

At the risk of being quoted in the OOC thread, I would like to see a remake of Moby Dick.
Modern special effects would make that movie awesome.

Ugh...the costumes in that movie were incredibly bad. Like, they read the book and said how can we make these costumes so that they are NOTHING like what we just read? Thurfir Hawat was like the nutty professor, and had what looked like small rodents for eyebrows. So stupid...they turned a highly-skilled assassin mentat into a bumbling klutz. The acting in that was terrible as well...I HATED it.

I agree...special effects could make that movie amazing.
EDIT: I like Patrick Stewart as Ahab (I think he played that role in the made-for-TV movie).

Yeah, it was classic - along the same lines as Death Race 2000 and Men At Work - classically BAD.

He would be too much like Gregory Peck. I think it would be cool to see them go in a completely different direction... maybe Harrison Ford or someone.

At least Death Race 2000 was funny at times. Dune was one of the most poorly scripted, badly acted movies ever made. Right up there with The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of Yik Yak, but without a topless Tawnee Catain.
I know it won't happen, but I wish we could've had Episodes I,II, and III of Star Wars directed and written by someone other than George Lucas.
I'd love to see On Her Majesty's Secret Service remade with James Cameron directing, Brosnan back as Bond (though I hated the Bond movies he was in),
Elizabeth Hurley as Tracy, and Alan Rickman as Blofeld.

Teenage Anakin: Who Cares
20 Something Anakin: Find a backstreet boy.. not the gay one.
Palpy: Ian McDiarmid (The other bright spot)
Padme: Portman can stay if she never speaks, otherwise. Fergie if she can control her pee pee.

Hollywood has run out of ideas. That is why 90% of movies now are either:
Remakes or Sequels (The new Bond flick, Rocky Balboa, Oceans 11-13)
True Stories (Miracle, Pursuit of Happyness, Blood Diamonds)
Cartoons (Over the Hedge, Ice Age, etc)
Adaptations of Books (DiVinci Code, Charlottes Web, The Departed)
Horrendously bad ideas for movies (Snakes on a Plane, Epic Movie, etc etc etc.)
So the remakes will continue.
I would like to see a remake of Stephen Kings IT, i dont care about the cast, but the original had the cheesiest special effects.

Perhaps James Caviezel as the Swann character...
Maybe the guy from Crank as the Ajax character...
I think all are good actors though. Damon was great in the Departed, Rounders and Bourne Indentity series...

Me too! It was great, but if they could add modern special effects, that could be one of the best movies EVER.
Im trying to think of someone in his 30's or 40s that can be goofy and menacing at the same time to play Pennywise. All i can come up with is Jim Carrey. :whoknows:

The one I'd like to see re-made would be "The Longest Day". I'd like to see it expanded into a 4-6 hour 'event movie' similar to the way "Gettysburg" was done.
My preference would be for either Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down) or Steven Spielburg (Saving Private Ryan) to direct it. I believe both have shown an ability to show an audience the horrors and heroics of war from the perspective of the soldiers who were there.
When it comes to actors... I'd kind of like to see it cast similar to the way the original was done; with cameos for a number of stars, but without a focus on just one or two of those characters. I'd also like to see most of the roles go to younger, unheralded actors who the audience can accept as these GI's and Officers instead of as the actor who is portraying them.

I think Bryan Singer is doing that movie now, don't think actors have been cast.
