View Full Version : Empty seats in Miami

Is it just me, or does it seem like you see a decent amount of orange (empty seats) when they're showing a wide shot of the stadium?

Some rain, but still warm weather and people are ducking under cover. If the Super Bowl crowd can't handle that, how would they be able to handle a SB played in a cold-weather outdoor stadium?

hail, There is a reason why the Super Bowl is generally played in Domed Stadiums or in the warmer weather cities. Considering the rain in Miami today, I wonder if we're going to hear somebody complain that the Super Bowl should only be played in a Dome from now on. Especially if the game ends up being decided by a play affected by the rain.

Personally, I think the Super Bowl should be hosted by whichever of the two teams playing has a better regular season record; but that's just me.

Football should always be played outside in my opinion unless it's Arena ball. I played in an intramural college game recently and people were complaining that it was cold (for Florida) and raining just as bad as today. Being from the north, I was like "shut up, this is football weather." I love playing in the rain and even more in the snow.

There isn't enough time to organize an event like the Super Bowl in a city just given a month.

Gee, you mean they might have to get rid of 90% of the crap that goes on for the two weeks before and just focus on the GAME instead? That would be an absolute travesty, wouldn't it?

Yes but what if the team that is hosting the super bowl has the smallest stadium in the league, it's definatly not feasible to host the largest sporting event in the US in that small of a venue.

Something tells me that ticket sales are not the biggest money maker for the NFL when it comes to the Super Bowl. I know I'm in the minority but I'd like to see the Super Bowl become more about the GAME than about the advertising, marketing, and other crap that seem to dominate it so much these days. From the ridiculous commercials, to the extended halftime show, to the 'I'm going to DisneyLand' bologna; the game has become secondary to all this other crap.

True...

but it starts with the players' salaries ;). Sorry, MSF. The NFL isnt just competitive sports, its sports entertainment. And that is a business.

You also have to keep in mind that not all NFL cities are capable of housing the mass of people that come into town for the game. It's the same as trying to get the Olympics in a specific city....there has to be an incredible amount of infrastructure.

well it was raining pretty hard and i didn't see many shots where it looked empty.. i think the superbowl is fine where it is and the spectacle needs to be done in a city where it can handle the other activities..

I would personally like to see the Super Bowl played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena every year. It's a neutral field and you're pretty much always guaranteed good weather. oh well i think it's out of the rotation now anyway, and I'm sure teams in possible host cities would hate that because of the money they potentially could lose, but still. I would love to see the Super Bowl return to the Rose bowl, and possibly stay there.

Nah, if you're going to hold it in the same place every year, you'd have to build a 100,000-seat stadium in Vegas! :D

I didn't necessarily mind seeing the game played in inclement weather......I just thought it was funny that a good number of people seemed to be disguised as orange seats.

I would be in favor if it wasn't on the West Coast, I know there is a bye week but if the Skins played the Chargers....we're ****ed.

I'd like to see it a little more east where there is no NFL team, Glendale maybe? AAA-YO!

Yeah, I was at a superbowl party, one of the people said: "AHAHA! I'M JUST HERE FOR THE COMMERCIALS!!! I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE INDIANAPOLIS BEARS!!!"

I'm serious too, that actually happened I felt like punching the person in the face.

Being that it's currently 4 degrees right here in So. IL I'll gladly trade with those pu**ies and take their definition of "cold". :silly: What was it? 50 degrees?

I would say that the rain probably chased off those corporate scumbags that are only at the game to do business. But most of those rich dopes probably were in luxery boxes, because God forbid they might actually get wet. So it was probably those well to do, pampered, locals who have their weeks ruined if isn't sunny and in the low 80's every day of the week. There is no place in professional football for these people. Football is an outdoor game meant to be played in the elements. If your not down with that, then go watch basketball. Freakin' sissies! :2cents:

You have that right Tom, the logistics for all the equipment and all, takes about 5 months of planning. Remember the SB isn't just the game. Depending on the loaction of the SB it can take at least a month to get everything there.

Most of the people at the parites, and game are corporate guests, they could care less about the SB, its a free trip for them. Top salesmen, award winners, prospective customers etc.

It's funny you mentioned that. At a bar in Miami during Super Bowl week, a guy walked up to a couple of smokin' hot models and asked them if they liked the Bears. One of them answered:

"What are you talking about? There are no bears in Miami."

The Super Bowl as an event can't be planned in a month. Too many people, too many parties (Maxim, Playboy, ESPN, etc.), too many hotel reservations, too much TV coverage, etc.

Everything that makes the Super Bowl the event that it is takes time.

And BTW- I'm glad those seats were empty. Hopefully someone upstairs will realize that real fans are being priced out of the stadiums. I doubt it, though.

Beside when they decide the SuperBowl was going to be in Miami a few years ago, who would of though it would rain on that day. It happens, I think next year its in Arizona. They planned the SB sites years in advance

well yeah, Arizona is a retractable roof, and it never rains in the desert. Then you got Tampa in '09 and then back to Rainy Miami in '10. I could really care less where it is, as long as the Skins are participating or the Cowboys are not.

I love the Rose Bowl too.
Unfortunately, the league abandoned the Rose Bowl for Super Bowls after the 1993 SB, b/c the RB does not have enough premium seating I.E. luxury boxes and club seats for all of the sponsors and corporates who attend the SB.

Premium seating is the bread and butter in this league, regardless of whether or not the patrons in those seats give one iota about the outcome of the game.

Thank God for HD tv for common folk like us.

The Super Bowl game is attended by Corporate big shots and other beautiful people. The real football fans, the people who go to games all season long are shut out of attending.
