You know I just had to post this...I just think Tony Dungy is a class act. His modesty reminds me so much of Joe Gibbs. He has overcome tremendous adversity in his life, with such grace and class that I was so happy the Colts won yesterday...of course I wished it was the Skins and I will never give up on that.

Both men have a strong faith in Christ as well.

I've been a fan of Dungy for a long time.. I wish the Redskins had him.. Don't get wrong I love Joe Gibbs and am thankful we have him but if we didn't have Gibbs I'd kill to get Dungy here.

I loved watching Manning choke year after year, but I really wanted Dungy to win one to prove Tampa wrong. He IS a great human being.

Both Dungie and Lovie Smith are total class acts.

The NFL should be damn proud to have them...

Congrats to both on excellent seasons....

I agree that Dungy is a great coach and a great person. I also like how he didn't make a big deal of being the first black coach to win the Superbowl. He is a class act.

OK and self-loving athletes turn me off.....what's your point. If I came on here and complained about them every time an athlete talked about himself I would have 15,000+ posts.

Why do you have a problem with his Christian faith? He mentioned God, but he didn't go on and on about it.

I agree. I didn't see ALL of the post-game stuff, but I thought he was pretty level about all of the God stuff. Saying he's proud to be a Christian coach is bad? What more do you want?

He credited his success to god. Would you be turned off if he had credited his parents? He didn't try to recruit or oppress anyone.

It amazes me that people that post messages like this don't see how intolerant they sound.

Let the guy have his faith. He isn't hurting you with it.

Dungy is a good guy and I'm glad he's earned a ring.

Class act always I'm happy for him he deserves it. As well happy for a couple of players Marvin Harrison another class act. He just goes on and do his job not one thing flashy about him he doesn't talk smack just go and do what he needs to do. Cato June that's my homeboy really happy for him as well.

I thought it was classy that he had backups in the game while there was still a *glimmer* of hope for the Bears to come back. He wanted to make sure that as many players as possible got a chance to play in the superbowl; very classy, imo.

I didn't complain about Dungy or anyone else everytime his name is mentioned or everytime someone attributes their success to god. I said one thing which was pretty straightforward and direct. I agree, it is just like your dislike for self-loving athletes.

I would suggest that he did go on and on about it. God was referenced more last night than in any post championship celebration I've ever seen.

Who said I didn't understand how intolerant I sound?

He can have his faith; I can have my opinion that his faith is a waste of time. My intolerance of his bible thumping is no different than your intolerance of my anti-religious stance.

You obviously missed the post-game interview with Earnest Byner and Darrell Green after Super Bowl XXVI. They didn't drone on about their faith, but, when compared to what Dungy Sunday, his comments were very mild. I think it boils down to your just wanting to hear nothing about God.

Yes, that is true. (Both about not seeing Green/Byner and about not wanting to hear anything about god).

I'd rather not hear about god after a football game.

Anyone else think about Dungy's son who committed suicide last year? I couldn't get it off my mind after the colts won:(

Dungy is a great man, a real class act, he really deserved this.

You're right. Both you and he should have the right to voice your opinions about faith. I just take exception when one stance prefers to stifle the other.

No, its OK for both of us to do both things. I said I was annoyed by Dungy's continued references to god and that I no longer had a particular affinity to him as a result.

That seems like a bit of a contradiction. You say "it's okay for both of us to do both things," but are "annoyed by Dungy's continued references to God." Which is it?

I should leave this alone, especially since you were more than civil in your response, and since no one around here wants an actual religious debate, but let's not pretend that Christianity or religion in general is accepting of disparate opinions. The Bible explicitly states that it is the job of every Christian to convert non-Christians to the way of Christ, which is a bit more forceful than my casual request that I not hear about god when watching football.

It's both. There isn't a bit of a contradiction.

I can be annoyed by something, and still believe that a person has the right of religion and free speech.

I would say that most of that was the owner Jim Irsay. He comes off as kind of a jerk, I've seen him do that a few times before, most recently after the AFC Championship game. Dungy, on the other hand, for whatever reason (probably just his overall demeanor), while he may have said similar things, did not irk me at all.

If Tony has been a Muslim and given glory to Allah, it probably wouldn't have turned you off. If he gave credit to Buddah, it probably wouldn't have turned you off. But because he gave glory to the one and only true God, it turned you off? It's amazing the hypocrisy that exists today!

To Tony Dungy, his relationship with the Lord is the most important thing in his life! That Super Bowl ring he won will not last forever; his relationship with the Lord will.

I have no idea how I gave you that impression. Both of those things would have bothered me just as much as did the actual situation.

Getting back on topic "Ahem"

Dungy had to get the nay-sayers off his back just as much as Manning did. Im glad he got to the Super Bowl and won it.
