This sucks. I'm sick of seeing the Spurs on TV and I'm sick of seeing the Cavaliers. It's even worse when we cant watch our own team because they decide to broadcast these teams 4-5 times a week.
Anyways, we have to win this game. Stop Randolph and get out on the break. If Arenas remains off and still tries to shoot his way to 50 we will lose by 10 or more.

All games in all markets are blacked out except the ones ABC televises. I have no idea why the NBA bent over for ABC. I believe it belongs back on NBC anways.

Since this game is blacked-out and will be seen by nearly no one, I hereby predict that Jarvis Hayes-Holdman will drop 40 on the Blazers.

Getting around this game not being aired because of ABC, why is this a 1:00 game? If this game was on at the regular 7:05PM time, it would be out of the "national games" window and could be aired!

Gil, DS, CB, Blatche, Haywood. I would rather it be AD at PG but thats not going to happen. Play them most the 2nd half as fouls allow. If your at PG Gil, concentrate of setting up Haywood, Blatche in the post and let CB and DS do their thing. Stop chucking up shots. When AD comes in, then you can light it up.
Then rotate in AD and rotation Gil to SG.
Bring in SAG/Ruffin for rest Blatche.
Rotate Lang to rest Haywood.
Give Hayes 4 mins to rest Caron.
That's it.

We had 8 assists for the game, that says we dont have a PG. If you know you need Gil to score because AJ is out, why dont you move him to SG so the team has a PG moving the ball around?
Also, if he wasnt such a wuss, he would tell Gil to keep his mouth shut and just do it on the court. We dont need any Babe Ruth calls. Just do it and let the reporters report about it.

Everyone needs to chill. We hit these times, and every team does. I can guarantee this team will go back on a streak some time in the near future. We've been floating around the 7-10 games above .500 for about 2 months now, and we're just obviously playing terrible. We have the allstar break coming up which is about a week (thank god) so everyone can rest up and sort things out. Philly's our last game before the break so I think that will be an easy win to put us at 8 above going into the break. Jamison will be back soon enough and we will start hitting our stride once again.

It will certainly not be an "easy win". It is utterly obvious that between AJs injury, EJ's straw grasping and, most importantly, Gil's love affair with himself that we are, right now, as poor a team as there is in the league. If you wanna know how the rest of the season will go, reference the Iverson-led 02-05 76ers. That's who we are right now.

Another downturn
The 76ers went into the 2001-02 season with high expectations, but were able to produce only a 43-39 record, sixth in the Eastern Conference. In the first round of the playoffs, Philadelphia was defeated by the Boston Celtics, three games to two. In 2002-03, the Sixers sprinted to a 15-4 start, but a 10-20 swoon left them 25-24 at the All-Star break. After the break, the 76ers caught fire, winning nine in a row at one point, and 23 of their last 33 to finish at 48-34, earning the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Iverson scored 55 points in the playoff opener against the New Orleans Hornets, and the Sixers went on to win the series in six games. In the second round, the Detroit Pistons ended Philadelphia's playoff run in six games.
On Memorial Day, 2003, Brown abruptly resigned as head coach, taking over the reins in Detroit a few days later. After being turned down by Jeff Van Gundy and Eddie Jordan, the 76ers hired Randy Ayers, an assistant under Brown, as their new head coach. Ayers lasted only 52 games and was fired with the team's record at 21-31. Chris Ford took over, but the Sixers finished the season at 33-49, missing the playoffs for the first time in six years. Iverson, who clashed with Ford throughout the second half of the season, played only 48 games in a stormy, injury-plagued season. Following the season, Philadelphia native Jim O'Brien was named head coach. Iverson was moved back to point guard and flourished, having arguably his finest season. He also impressed many with his willingness to get other players involved in the offense. During the 2004-05 season, Philadelphia acquired Chris Webber in a trade with the Sacramento Kings, with the hopes that the team had at long last found a consistent second scoring option to compliment Iverson. Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia's first-round pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, was named to the All-Rookie First Team, and the Sixers returned to the postseason with a 43-39 record. In the first round, they were defeated in five games by the eventual Eastern Conference Champion Pistons, coached by Larry Brown. Following the season, O'Brien was fired and replaced by the popular Maurice Cheeks, who played for the team from 1978-89, and was the starting point guard for the 1983 NBA Champions. However, the coaching change did not turn around the team's fortunes. A 2-10 stretch in March doomed them to missing the playoffs for the second time in three years with a 38-44 record.

A tempting proposition, no?

Coach is a part of the team...therefore the Wizards are mediocre.
Ok, I know how you do things. You like to discribe the bucket, not what's in it.
Im just seperating the 2 because there is a big differece. Its hard to get the right players. That can take years. We have the players. Actually, sometimes I think people thing our players are worse then they are because of the way they are used.
It's like having a covette and having Betty Boop drive it.
We have a nice car. We just need a driver or a good steering wheel.
So sure, because of that, we loss and loss ugly, but we do have a nice car.
We just need someone to drive it well and the steering column needs fixed.
The post game callers are all over it. Its leadership and coaching.

Agreed. EJ and Gil are slipping badly right now. Don't be surprised if the Sixers smack us around Wed. night.

So you don't think that the coach being absolutely terrible have nothing to do with the team being mediocre? I like your car analogy, but if there is no driver, whats the point of the car? You can have a ferrari for all I care, but the Driver is what makes the car go..
P.S I'm with you on the players aspect, we have the players here, but they are not being groomed the way that they should be. In order to cover for EJ's deficiencies as a coach, he has to play the big three into the ground each game, so he hesitates to give anyone else a chance to help this team.. (except for Hayes, who's terribad).

This one hurt. Oh well, if there is a year for injuries to hit us, its this one for sure, might as well take it when its best too.
Man, that really sucked.

sure, so then we have this great bowl of soup and some crackers. So who is going to server it up.
The soup will just sit on the serving table and get cold. Then maybe you get to eat some soup but it will be for desert and it will get served with ice cream instead of the crackers you got.

We need Butler to step it up too. Although Arenas has really played like crap, Butler's production has dropped off as well. We really need that pissed off Butler from the Seattle game.
I liken the upcoming 76ers game to that Hawks game early in the season that sent us on that long winning streak. We really need to win it to have positive momentum going into the 2nd half.

We also need to go back to starting Booth at PF. He is the only available guy who will play both sides of the floor well. He gives us a second shot-blocking presence so we won't have to leave perimeter scorers wide open and he can also hit that mid-range J consistently, something Blatche, Hayes, Songaila, and Ruffin can't do.

Just got back from the game. Very disappointed. Embarrassing loss. Portland just came to play today and the Wiz didn't.

I'd take Blatche or Songaila in a midrange jumpshooting contest any day.
Booth wasn't exactly liting it up. Plus he cannot play more than 10 consecutive minutes, he just can't, so don't think he can. He wasn't a good athlete before, and now that he is older is even less of one.

Well, I think it all affected by line ups. What your describing sound to me like your missing a PG. Because with Gil, DS, CB, and AJ you have ball handling kind of spread out over 4 players, but really between Gil, DS and AJ. Loose one of them, and you find out we don't really have a PG because its a shared duty. Same thing happened with we lost Hughes, and when we lost CB last year ,and when we lost AJ last year.
This same thing has been happening for 3 years but we haven't addressed the problem. It's because of the line ups. EJ plays pl ayes in all these hybrid positions instead of replacing players with players that play that position.
When Gil got hurt that one year, Blake come in. Blake was a PG. That made sense.

there you go, a caller talking about Gil predicting 50 when he is labeled a PG.
He doesn't share the ball.
This isn't what a PG does. Just move him to SG where he can just be Gil.

Did you notice things went to hell as soon as Blatche came out? He is often our best defender both on ball and weakside when he's on the floor.
I might be agreeing with JMJG about drafting Marcus williams, I dunno, sometimes I wonder about Gil, but I watch enough other NBA games that I know he isn't the only guy who has bad games, but it would be nice to have him run off screens sometimes.
I think the main reason Gilbert doesn't "distribute" on a regular basis is that he had NO confidence in his teammates today, and I think they know that also.
I can't blame him though, but I'm sure it doesn't help them at all.

And the Blazers remain the only team you haven't scored 30 on.

Ever since Gil started getting recognition in the media, he has been TRASH. He is letting it all get to his head. Superstars don't play this poorly for this length of time (over a month and counting).

Well I just got back from the game and all I have to say is :puke:
Yeah there was apparently a huge screaming match between EJ and a player in the locker room post-game. That player was rumored on 980 to be Haywood...
It really sounds like things are beginning to unravel, which I sincerely hope isn't the case. I hope Jamison comes back as quickly as possible and this team gets back on the right track very soon. I'm real worried right now.
BTW, way to go get your 50, Gil  .

True that. I don't know what is going on with him, and I don't care about wether or not he's a superstar, I just want to see my team continue to win, and that hasn't been happening lately.

I still think switching back to the old ball has something to do with Gil's struggles, as he was one of the few players who expressed a like for the new ball. That and his shoulder injury.

Be sure not to break your arm patting yourself on the back.
Yeah, I caught how things went down. I posted it the whole game thread.
As for Gil. Ask yourself this. What drives Gil regarding basketball skill?
Just be honest with yourself. Do you think he wants to be a PG or a scorer first and foremost? I mean if you said, Gil here is a basketball. Do what you do... what do you think he would do first or 8 of 10 times? I know he wants the ball in his hands, every scorer wants that, but that doesn't make them a PG. There is a reason a team finds a PG. Its because the scorer wants it every time and because the post players cant generate their own shots. They need it feed to them.
You also can consider the style we play. I remember, I think it was Denver with Micheal Adams. They were all run and gun and light up the score boards, but so did the other teams. They played no defense. I think we are what, last in the league. Does this style of play sound at all familiar?
There is a reason other teams don't design teams like that. Its because they don't win when it counts. Because of this, they make compromises. They play some slower-bigger players that provides the needed defense and post game. Well, all except teams that are just freaks like Phoenix because they have Nash.
Now ask the same question of Nash, or Kid or of any of the PGs you admire.

Wow. We've played ONE really good quarter (vs Seattle) ever since AJ went down.
BTW- Arenas coming on strong.
I was there. It was the line ups that made it work. Check who was in the game.
