They weren't in the same draft class. Kwame was '01, Amare was '02.

Which is just now paying off divedends.
No doubt he set the franchise back, but that is old news. Would you rather have had Eddie Curry? I mean... if Isiah Thomas wasn't a big dummy would you rather have him?
Everyone thought he was gonna be great, he is just a bum in all senses of the word.
Move on man. Its gonna be okay.

We have depth. It's not easy to get new players into the system. Songaila, Stevenson, Booth, BLATCHE. Look at the teams (other than Portland) that have been kicking our butt lately. They have all been together for a while with the same rotations. It takes time. We are not going far in the playoffs this season. Even if we finish the season really well, we don't play defense and we don't have a solid rotation.
Having said what I just did, there is a lot of time left in the season. Ben Wallace is still getting his feet wet in Chicago and I expect them to be VERY good by playoffs. They play defense though. The wizards have to seriously take a look at themselves when it comes to defensive effort. we have the personnel but they have to step it up. EJ has to find a solid rotation so it's not a free-for-all of guys trying to jump inot the starting 5.
(In other words, no. Kwame did not set us back.)

thats going to be hard to do though...playing defense....
Arenas just called out EJ for making them concentrate on defense:

he set us back but we got caron butler for him so id say things worked out. I'm not sure out of that draft if I would want anyone over caron so i guess things worked out.

after looking at the draft i might rather have joe johnson, pau gasol, and randolph over caron but maybe...im not even sure. So i guess Kwame didn't really set us back to far. I've always liked Kwame and I thought he would be a star (I feel the same way about Bltache now). I actually hope he becomes a better player because that is such a waste of a perfect nba body and speed.
