View Full Version : Happy Valentine's Day......

To all the ES members who DON'T have a significant other to celebrate with today.

This holiday can really be a downer when you don't have a special guy or lady in your life. So I just wanted to make sure somebody said "Happy Valentine's Day" to all the singles out there.

On a positive note for the single guys, just think of all the money you've saved NOT having to buy chocolates, flowers, lingerie, cards, and other things for a lady to throw at you (or to throw out) when the relationship eventually goes down the tubes. :silly:

at first I was afraid to open the thread, then I saw the thread starter and figured it'd be interesting. Not quite as outlandish from you Mass, and I tend to agree. I pretty much am ignoring that this day is any other day but a Wednesday and that it will be over in 17 hours.

Just noticed... never use the initials of Valentines Day as an acronym. It's just wrong and not funny at all.

You pikers with no G/f's should consider yourselves lucky.

All i want to do today is put in a half-assed day of work, go to the gym, come home and watch TV and screw around on ES.

But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, i have to put some elaborate date together to appease the g/f, drop $200 on a gift and flowers (which were to be delivered to her office today, but she got the day off  ), and i just remembered that i still have to go get a card, which is going to be a huge pain in the ass with the icy roads.

And the ****ed up part of it is that if i did all this in say, the middle of May, i'd get TONS of points for it, including but not limited to AT LEAST 2 maybe 3 nights out with the boys with no repurcussions, at least a coupla good :hump:ings, and a whole lot more.

But because of this fake-ass holiday, its expected.

February sucks. Bring on March and its weeks of nothing but college basketball, green beer, and debauchery.

Ya know it's a shame that the meaning of Valentines Day has been lost through history, and has become a "Hallmark" holiday. You guys should read up on it. It actually started in Ancient Rome. A couple of varying stories about things, and why it's on Feb. 14th, but interesting nonetheless.

Interestingly, most of the historical ladies that I've read about who had duels fought over them found the experience to have a dual nature.... On one hand they felt somewhat special in that two men would go so far as to try and kill each other over her. On the other hand, those for whom one of the men was not a husband found their loyalties and rooting interests and wishes very divided. Especially since a proper lady was restrained by her social position from being in attendance at the actual duel. Even if she was the subject of that duel.

I have already made preparations for Lady Candace's arrival here at my Manor. Appropriate numbers of ladies-in-waiting, chambermaids and dressers will be at her beck and call at all hours of the day. i am sorry i called you a prude. well, sort of.

I may have joked with you. But, I never called you out of your name, and you did that to me four times. You also accused me of something I did not do and, after my first denial, you unnecessarily go off on me. If my comment about your wife "coming to her senses after the fact" upset, insulted or embarrassed you, then I'm sorry I did that. Maybe I crossed the line with that crack, but we could have avoided all of this if you had just said that in the beginning. I shouldn't have gone there and I'm sorry I did.

Mass, I must say that fighting you will be a challenge, but I'm prepared. Candace will be mine by Sundown, and the battle will forever be known as " The Battle of Bunker Hill" err....."The Valentine's Day Massacre"......err all the good ones are taken.

It will be an honor to face you on the field, SKINSFAN. Great will be the wordfame spoken of this battle. The bards and singers will tell the story of this night's combat for ages to come. The sagas of heroes will have a new chapter added to their number this day.

Candace will enjoy living at my Manor, she will not have to move a finger because of the hundreds of maids I will have specially trained to suit her needs. She will also have me, so that's a prize in itself ;)

I only hope that you or your next of kin shall be able to reclaim what you have paid for these preparations, for they have been mere vanity taken too far. Maybe I will even be kind enough to employ these specially trained ladies when you have no more need for them. I also need remind you that a lady with nothing to do becomes restless. Giving her duties as Seneschal of my Manor will allow her mind to stay sharp while allowing her time to persue her own interests.

When I said, "nice," I was referring to your "David Alan Grier" statement, not calling for people to be nice. I took your statement as an obvious swipe to my having lots of pictures with cheerleaders -- something that you've been doing with increasingly regularity, I might add. As for your "alleged" apology, you said:

"The match tonight features a proven dueler in MSF, and an up and coming youngster that wears his heart on his sleeve. Hubrus is the enemy of the Warrior. It always has been, young fighter. For was is not Goliath who, faced with a smaller opponent in the boy David did not bear his full armor to the field, or take his opponent seriously enough, and did David not slay Goliath, eventually using the giant's own sword to remove his head. I would suggest that one win the bout before proclaiming your wordfame and taking your prize, young one.

Be cautious... wearing ones heart on ones sleeve makes it an easy target, both physically and metaphorically. Height is not so much of a factor in this sort of fight as you might believe, young Lord. Experience is much more useful. Especially when much of that experience is fighting taller opponents.

Lady Candace and I shall mourn your passing, young Lord. We shall ensure your are buried with all the proper honors and ceremonies suitable to your valour and determination. Your name shall be one of honor in my hall for all the days that it is mine to rule.

Mi'Lord, the swords of the tongue and wit may be the sharpest of all, even though they never find the grinding stone. It would be wise for any lady to beware of the honeyed tongue that speaks of things the body cannot possibly provide. Lady Candace and I are well acquainted and I am quite sure she knows my willingness to stand at her aid or defend her honour on but a moment's notice and at the price of my life if it were to be required. Yet this interloper, this pretender to Lady Candace's affections hath chosen to assume HE and ne're I would be the choice of her heart.

Yet, upon the retreat of the golden orb from the Heavens this very eventide, did I find myself ALONE upon the field that he had chosen and appointed to settle this matter. Ne'er did he appear to make good on his boasts and braggings; and so I must consider this matter settled in my favor. The good Lady Candace shall now be wooed and courted by myself and none other, until she should consent to join me, as Providence itself has ordained.

My thanks and gratitude for your kind words, sir. I find so rarely the opportunity to put such words to print that it is a fine challenge to do so when I can. Though something hath vexed me.... I was of the belief that my heraldic introduction from some pages back would draw more interest and comment than it hath, for there are words and concepts contained therein that the common lord or lady of today must be highly mystified by. The vision also showed me being victorious and riding off into the sunset with the fair Maiden on my steed.

The time has come MSF, are you ready?

Mi'Lord, unfortunately this fued will have to be foresworn for the time being, as I have retired to my hall for the evening and only the most grave of circumstances will rouse me from the warmth of the hearth and the fullness of my belly. The fates have looked kindly upon you in their weaving this day that we were not able to meet upon the field of battle. Consider it a lesson to take to heart in the future. The magnificent Lady Candace will have to choose her own suitor(s) now. I trust in Providence and Fate to make her heart mine.

(On a serious note.... many of us who participate in the medieval combat thing do use music to get pumped up before a tournament. I've heard "Eye of the Tiger" more times than I care to admit to in those occassions among an extensive litany of music that people use for the purpose)

Many wouldst walk in fog for the span of a life lest they be seen as ignorant or a fool. These be frightened of enlightenment, nay they are frightened to appear as fools though a fear of foolishness often is the key to earning that very station in life.

Your words strike with the precision on an archers bolt, Mi'Lord. Though I still find interest in the fact that even with the inclusion of a visual representation of my heraldry in the post, none have chosen to comment on it. More is their loss.

There WILL be another day, SKINSFAN. The fates will see to that. Our destinies are tied together and cannot be separated by any man or God. But do not cast the die of your luck on the weather, Mi'Lord.

I have taken the field in weather that would keep any sane warrior in his camp. I have laid my enemies low in heat so extreme you could fry lard on my helm and where our commanders ORDERED us to drink fluids and allow the water-bearers to drench our armor in water between every bout. I have stormed fortifications in rain so severe that I could not see my brothers in arms before me in formation. I have fought in woods during rains so excessive that the water rolled across the ground as if we were standing in a river. I have charged an enemy where the only way to find him through the fog was to see his silouette during the flashes of lightning. Do not believe for a moment that mother nature will protect you from me or from your fate. :D
