View Full Version : Just on ESPN halftime: Wiz toughest match for Pistons

They just said that a healthy wiz team is the toughest match for Detriot and will give them a run for their money in the playoffs. But said that Detroit with C-Webb is dangerous. (4-2 with him, only 2 losses to the wiz)
I'm syked. Once AJ and Butler get back healthy, and Blatche keeps playing pretty well as a role player, we could be a very tough team to beat in the playoffs, even if Gil gets cold now and again.
thoughts?

Works for me. If we can maintain the 2 seed=homecourt advantage for the first two rounds, then vs. Detroit in the Conf. finals? I'm down w/ that.
EDIT: Question: How is it determined who has homecourt advantage in the NBA Finals??

I believe its whoever had the better record during the regular season, but I could be wrong.
But I'm also psyched for the Wiz to get healthy (apparently AJ could be back as soon as the end of this little road trip we are on). Once AJ is back, Blatche continues to get more experience, and Songaila continues to get his feet under him, we will be a very deep time coming down the stretch. Not to mention the play of the big 3 + Stevenson who is really stepping it up this season.
However, until AJ gets back this team needs to play good basketball. We can't lose too much ground when not healthy, good teams should figure out a way to win even without one of their best players.
Most importantly we can't rush AJ back, if he is ahead of schedule with his rehab than thats great, but I really don't want us to rush him back because we "need" him. What the Wiz need is for everyone to be healthy coming down the stretch so we can be hot going into the postseason.

agreed 100 %. Great post and I do think we will be very deep dow the stretch once every 1 gets healthy. Watch out for us in the playoffs.

who told you that? 7 games series are completly different from meeting in the regular season.. Good teams make adjustments through out the entire series and will take away things after seeing it in consecutive games

If you can't play defense, your chance of winning in the postseason are slim to none.
Sad but true.

I seem to remember the Wizards having their way with the Cavs last year in the regular season. If i remember right they were 3-1 against them. They ended up meeting again in the playoffs and the Cavs won... so regular season success doesn't mean ****.

That series was so evenly matched, we could have won the series just like the cavs did.

So only the pistons are able to make adjustments in the playoffs? Or is this a bash at EJ?

but the cavs still won 4-2 in the series.. eddie jordan is not capable of making good adjustment ands its pretty evident in most of the games

Game 3, alot of people think lebron travled when he made the game winning shot, and we still have a shot to win that game with a 3.
Game 5, if we dont let lebron free on the baseline we win that game.
game 6, if Arenas makes 2 free throws we probably win..
We could have easily won that series.

oh wow im sure if u do that, any team can beat any team in any series.. how bout we dont let gary payton make a jumper in game 3 last year and the mavs go up 3-0? the heat still win the series, i think not. those are some lame excuses..

They're not excuses, thats to prove a point how close the series was..Maybe you should read the posts better?

Wow. There are excuses on why you didn't win last year. You still lose in 6 games, and didn't force a game 7 if it were close. Tell the spurs, and lakers last year and those teams were close in beating the other team in a 7 game series

I think his point is just that the Cavs and Wiz were very evenly matched last season, and that was evident if you watched the entire series. Three games were very close and were decided at the very end. Unfortunately for the Wiz, Cleveland won all three of those games.
Did we lose because of poor defense, and possibly a lack of adjusments made by the coaches? Probably. But I like to think that this season we are a much deeper team than the past two seasons, going along with how we have even more experience on the part of not only the players, but also the coaching staff.
And going back the home court deal, that would help the Wiz tremendously in the playoffs, especially considering how well we have played at Verizon Center this season. We have one of the best home records in the association. If we can catch fire at the end of the season, and hang around until we get completely healthy in a couple of weeks, then there is no doubt in my mind that the Wiz can get that #2 seed.
IMO, this season is a huge disappointment if we don't get past the first round, my goal is to get to the Eastern Conference finals, and I think we can do that. Sure our defense blows most of the time, but the Suns used to never play D and they still managed to get through the playoffs in the West, while compared to the Wiz who are playing in a wide open Eastern Conference.

Lemme guess, You just look at the points they allow and guess that they dont play good defense right? Go read the stats carefully, this time pay attention to FG percentages and Point Differential, lemme know what you find out.

The wizards are the best team in the eastern conference. And they beat detroit at home without Jamison for the most part.
nobody wants to see Gilbert in a series again. You think 33 ppg was diesel? This is the takeover year, baby. I see them marching to the finals. BAM!

 If you matchup well against a team, it doesn't matter if its the regular season or playoffs..
In a playoff series a team learns the other team much more deeply and can exploit one mismatch which makes the other team adjust then that opens another weakness. Great coaching shows a lot more in the playoffs.

Defense wins in the playoffs. Period.

Defense wins championships!
Probably, but it sure as hell does not win playoff series anymore than great offense. To wit, our matchup against the BABY BULLS (god I hate them), a clearly superior defensive team with (some might argue) a better coach than ours. And we won.
The Suns going deep in the playoffs the past two seasons, when their defense was actual crap (I am looking at YOU mad4comp :), look at the stats!) though this year they appear to have made big strides in that department...
Regardless, if we want to win a championship, our defense is not there yet. We do not need the BEST D in the league, but we need good crunch time D. In saying that, we DO have the tools for a run at the Eastern Conference Finals, where I know we will at LEAST wind up. And we all know that the Wiz can beat and lose to ANYBODY in the league, so all the series' will be great! See you in the Eastern Conference Finals, Hibachi!
