It's going to be a big test tonight for the Wiz, especially without Caron.
The Wizards have sent forward Caron Butler back to Washington from New Jersey to get treatment for lower back spasms. Butler will be a game-time decision for tomorrow's game versus the Heat at Verizon Center. Jarvis Hayes will again start in place for Butler who did not play in Sunday's loss at Minnesota.http://dc-wizards.blogspot.com/
Ugggghhhhhh, why??? Darius imo should start at the 4, and move Blatche down to the 3. Gil is going to have to have a better shooting effort tonight than he did vs. Minny. The Wiz will need lots of players to step their games up on both ends of the court, if we're going to leave NJ with a win. It's going to be a tough one, but go Wiz!!!

Not Caron too? Man this sucks. Hopefully we pull out the W and Gil has like 50.
Deshawn will have to have a big game and Blatche, Songalia and Hayes will def. need to step up.

Another recipe for disaster game. I'll hope for a miracle but wont be surprised if we lose this one. Jarvis Hayes is garbage and hell shoot 20 shots to make 2, meanwhile giving NJ 18 extra possessions.

I mean I don't want to rush Jamison back, but with him practicing yesterday, that was a good sign. Maybe he'll surprise us and play tonight? I know, wishful thinking. We could sure use him with Caron out tonight.

For you locals with directv, check out channel 659 (or 658 maybe) for the game. I've noticed that for games that channel8 broadcasts, directv has been putting them on 659 (and one time i believe it was 658).

My DirectTV guide shows it on 752. That's an NBA League Pass channel so maybe it won't be on there? I don't know. That's the only place I saw it though. 659, where it normally is on, says To Be Announced.

This team is doomed from the beginning. They don't give a damn about defense, therefore, we will never get past the 2nd round. It's disturbing to see a coach as successful as EJ in the past 3 seasons, can't get his players to play an ounce of defense, nevertheless having the will to rebound. It's miraculous that we actually beat all those teams from the West this season as well as the Pistons twice.

Agreed completely. I don't even get how they do it. Does anyone here have extensive basketball experience or game-watching analytical ability that can tell us WHAT THE **** THE PROBLEM IS?!!!
It looks like we play solid defense when we don't have little lineups with no center to steal off the counter. But the Nets just dished the ball around so swiftly on the outside to pop a wide-open three every time. I don't get it. Is it effort? Who is not doing their job right? Can it be taught/corrected?

I don't think it's a lack of talent. All our guys are athletic enough and have enough energy.
IMO, its coaching and a lack of effort...the two kinda go hand in hand.
It's like they're afraid to get out on the perimeter because they're afraid they'll get beat inside. So they stand around in ****ing no mans land between the low post and the perimeter waiting to collapse on anything in the low post. The ball gets kicked out past the three point line and they're stuck too far in to do anything about it.

One thing I noticed tonight is the Gilbert is selfish. Before you all blast me about being an Arenas hater, that I am not...I love Gil (no homo). But tonight it finally clicked. All that talk about how EJ said Gil is no leader, he was right. Even when Kobe knows his shot is off he passes. Possession after possession after possession Gil looked off Jarvis, Mason, Stevenson. All that kept popping in my head was "Quality Shots". He was taking fadeaway threes with hands in his face left and right. He needs to step it up. For us to consistently win, we need Gil to be a leader, not Antawn.

Well this Offense is built more around isolation and guys being able to create their own shot. Gil is more of a hybrid PG/SG. What we need is a guy like Larry Hughes to play the SG, a tall guy with handles who compliments Gil. In 04-05 our starting backcourt was giving us near 10 APG.
At full health it works because we have so many guys that can beat the Defense. But if even one guy is out it throws the whole thing off. I'd like to see our Offense at full 100% health(as in including Songaila as well).

Did Taylor really have 5 assists in 6 mins?
I know everyone is focused on the D but there is more I don't like about what we are doing.
I still don't like that we don't have a good PG. Gil is awesome on the fast break pass but there is something I have seen for years that I don't like. Its how he takes so many shots not in the offense. This dates back to the first year he got here. Its that he does it and then to make it worse, he does it over and over and over even if he is missing. Same thing he and Hughes used to do. Its so old. Just run the offense and shot when you get and open shot. That's the shot he was making.
I was shocked at the crap Hayes did last night because I was going to point about how he is going to make it and stick around. He rebounded nicely tonight. He also forces to many shots not in the offense but he hit the open ones tonight. He also rebounded well. 2 years off must be hard to recover from.
What this team lacks is organization and discipline. They lack it on both sides, offense and defense.
What we are good at is just street ball. That isn't going to work in the playoffs.
Gil is one of the most talented SG in the league, but he isn't efficient with this talent. At least not consistently which to me is part of being efficient. He doesn't play in a team concept enough of the time. He could be better then Nash if he would just play smarter. Right now he is more of an early Iverson to me.
I'm tired of watching other teams pass and pass and run an offense and get easy shots and then we just go one on one and take shots with 18 secs on the clock without passing.
We can be an awesome team, we just have to play as a team and play smarter and more efficient. Having a pure PG would help.

This is the same problem we have had forever.... It was a problem when Hughes was PG and its a problem with Gil as PG. They arent PGs.
Every offseason I hope we keep or get a PG.
Kidd scored a lot of points, but he played PG the whole game. He was always in charge of the offense and working his team in. He just know when to take over for a spurt and when to step in with pts.
Gil is shoot first. That is a SG.

Well, with Gil, CB and AJ together, they all share the ball so it moves more. It just then we don't have a post game. Then, if one gets hurt, we are out of sync. This is why I want a good PG and a back up PG. That adds balance and stability.
I want us to run an offense that involves passing before shooting. Something that works for open shots as a team.

Jarvis Hayes had a good/great game tonight, he was RIPPED throughout this thread. He took some terrible shots and missed a few open shots. Jarvis also hits the boards well. It would be great if we could get some consistency out of him. lets see how he follows it up against the heat

I just hate the fact they don't even ****in try on defense.
Excuse me, they do try, they just protect the paint.

Thats my best guess. No, it's lack of defensive talent. Look at who we're starting out there tonight.
It is what it is. When you have guys like Gil and Jamison playing 40+mins a game, you're just not gonna be a good defensive team. (especially in our case when we have no Bigs that control the paint)
Obviously it doesn't mean we have to play the worst defense I've ever seen, but even if we played great team defense, we still would never be a good defensive team. There are too many weak links on D.
Gilbert NEVER has more than 5 assists. Point Guard. Shame. Gil averages 6 a game...

well he has 20-30 games to prove he can get it done.
I guess with all his injuries its almost like he is a rookie or 2nd year player. He was out for most of 2 yrs. That's missing a lot of ball for a guy that hadnt already established his game to start with.

The one good thing about NJ winning is it gets them closer to topping the Heat for that 8th playoff spot-even better if we beat them tonight.

I think Jamison is a weak link, however he does get rebounds. As a man up defender, you're right, he's not that great.
Arenas has all the talent in the world. There's no reason why he couldn't be a shut down defender if he really wanted to be one.

Is there any way to combine the offensive talents of Jamison with the length, athleticism and defensive talents of Blatche? Any mad scientists?

I should have checked my facts before I posted but I can't believe he averages that many assists per game. I cannot remember ever seeing post-game stats for him where he had that many. Wow.

Good post, I do agree but he has to still be playing a little better. He can't just fall off that much??
Gilbert needs to learn to stop forcing his shot, if he is not on, then drive, how many 3's did he miss??
