Bly not down on Denver
By Bill Williamson
Denver Post Staff Writer

In his first comment about the speculation that Dre Bly wants out of Denver, his agent Kennard McGuire made a statement in an attempt to douse the rumor.

"I have had nothing but positive dialogue with Mike Shanahan and Ted Sundquist about Dre. Dre understands that it is a compliment to be wanted. Neither Dre nor myself have said publicly that he is disenchanted. I understand why certain teams only allow the head coach to speak publicly. If Dre is so miserable or unhappy it hasn't been publicly said by Dre or myself. "

The Washington Post reported Sunday that Bly was unhappy that he was traded from Detroit to Denver last week and that Bly, who is from Virginia, wants to be in Washington. The newspaper also reported that Bly had a long-term contract worked out with the Redskins prior to the deal.

This whole situation seems strange to me. Lots of posturing going on. It will be interesting to see what happens.

The agent and Bly are just saying all the right things. You just can't bad mouth teams and think you will be able to conduct business in the future with teams in the NFL. I am sure the agent slapped him upside the head and told him to say all the right things in public and to shut up in private.

If you read this closely, his agent is saying, "No one said he hates it here, but that does not mean this is his first choice."

Exactly. However, if you read it from a biased or cynical way it could be saying "Hey we all know he is pissed to be here, but we never leaked that story."

Just my two cents.

By saying this Bly gives Denver more leverage in trade talks. Clearly he is backpedalling to help facilitate the trade.

yeah he's helping them out...so we all know who to blame if we make the trade and don't get the 1, 2, and 3 picks.

To improve your negotiations when you want something badly, it's in your best interests to say the opposite.

He'll look good in B&G...

What is Bly actually worth? Is he worth a first round pick?

No he's not worth a 1st. However he's worth switching our 1st with their 1st and a couple other picks that they throw in. I'm of the opinion that anytime you can get 2 or 3 first day picks along with a Pro-Bowl player, it's a win-win situation. :2cents:
