Best of luck to Patrick. He never received a fair shake here. Let's see if the Rat can help his career.

Patrick Ramsey behind a zone blocking scheme? It's so stupid it just might work. At least he'll be able to teach Cutler how to suck with class. :)

Fat Boy Lenny takes more potshots. "At times overcoached and mishandled.."
"blessed with a strong arm and solid pocket presence."
You mean the pocket presence that made him hold the ball and look at the rush?

Hes not a starter in the NFL. He got his chance and wasnt up to the challenge.

Cutler's the guy there, so I doubt if he sees the playing field anytime soon. However, if Cutler goes down, he has some nice weapons, a good running game and a good offensive line.

He was mishandled here. Spurrier ruined him. No protection at all. Every play was GPK (Get Patrick Killed) on your choice of Hut 1, Hut 2 or Hut 3.

Try actually looking at what Spurrier did to him objectively. He could have ruined Manning if he coached him.

I disagree. Pat is a great guy with a great arm. However, he can not read NFL defenses well enough to an NFL starter. He also could work on some of his throws. He is what he is. No one mishandled him.

The guy's going into his 5th NFL season and will be 28 years old. I think we are passed the point of looking at Ramsey as a developing talent. To me Ramsey is a backup player, how good of one remains to be seen given his limited field time the past two seasons.

Hard to read an NFL defense when you have no protection at all.
He did well with the team in Gibbs first year but Gibbs wanted Brunell to start, hell or high water.

several NFL starters took years to develope, Green, Gannon, Chandler, Deberg, Fiedler, Garcia
as long as he is still in the NFL, there's hope

I'm not getting into any more Ramsey debates :) , but he played terrible in the 2005 pre-season, while Brunell played great. Then in week one he turned the ball over three times in a little over a quarter. Gibbs made the right decision at the time.
Patrick went on to NY, where it was reported in training camp they were so frustrated with him, he wasn't even working out with the other QB's for a while. He was 3rd on their depth chart behind a rookie.
I like Pat, but he wasn't mis-treated by Gibbs.

Patrick Ramsey seems to be a really solid citizen and I'm sorry it did not work out for him here. I can't help but think, however, that Lenny is inserting his obligatory dig at the Skins when I read that the evil Joe Gibbs mishandled Ramsey and that now he is a "coveted" quarterback. Since when was Patrick Ramsey coveted?
phatSkins27
March-7th-2007, 07:52 PM
How does the word coveted and Patrick Ramsey come in the same sentence? Kyle Boller has a strong arm, Aaron Brooks can launch it over 70 yards look at how good those guys are....solid pocket presence? maybe has a presence to raise the sack totals of the other teams....Patrick Ramsey is a young Jeff George!

Blessed with solid pocket presence?
Does Lenny P even watch football anymore or does he just write what his favorite agent Jimmy Sexton tells him to?
Ramsey has no feel for the pocket, no football instincts period. I mean, that's just a hilarious quote from Lenny P. And I wish the kid well, but it was well documented by the New York media just how bad he looked at the Jets training camp last year.

Ramsey never got good coaching or line support in college. Spurrier definitely coached him DOWN. The fact he couldn't beat out a rookie or a one arm qb for a roster spot has to tell you that two teams that saw him every day didn't think that highly of him. Pasq. has a grudge against the Skins, otherwise why wouldn't he knock the Jets too?

He got a raw deal everywhere. Spurrier messed him up by leaving him a sitting duck and gibbs just never trusted him despite naming him the starter. The guy got one possession in, got hurt and never played the rest of the season. Everyone knew pennington would start in ny.

wow, first Champ, then Kenard Lang, then Big Daddy Wilkinson, and now Patrick...They are really stockpiling Redskins...
But anyways, good for Patrick I'm glad he has a job. He's a good guy on and off the field. He's never really had a fair chance to play in the NFL and he may not start for them, but they got themselves a good backup. Good luck to him and I wish him the best. I'll be rooting for him if he plays unless he's playing us.

Ok, from the posts I guess we will see how training camp goes. If he doesn't do well can we put the "he was never given a chance' comments to rest.

Good for Patrick,
I wish the best for him, here's to hoping he finally breaks out and shows his potential. A great person to talk with, my friend and I got to meet him when the jets came to fed ex this past year. Deffinately a stand up guy. He still appreciates his fan base here.

I remember Ramsey's first game as a Redskin. He had no offensive line protection, he was getting pummeled everytime yet he still kept hanging in there and threw the ball at the last second possible to give recievers more time to get open. The announcers were talking about how he had ice in his veins.
I think it's sad that he had to go through Spurrier's preferential treatment of qbs that were not better than Ramsey. When he did start there was no o-line help at all, no running game to speak of. It's a shame that he's now a very poor man's version of Brett Farve. The guy had guts. I hope he plays and does well in Denver.

Denver is what the media claims the Redskins are. How many players do these guys bring in every year? Shanahan gets all this credit for a team that hasn't won 2 playoff games since Elway retired almost a decade ago.

No doubt! I always liked the kid though. I f he was one huge upside, its his toughness. That kid can and always will be able to take a beating.

I thought I would never root for Denver but if Ramsey is playing I will cheer him on. Maybe the thin air will help him. Brunell may be a good guy but my heart is with Patrick. When we meet in the Super Bowl next season the Redskins will win but Patrick will throw 4 TD's in a losing effort and Champ will get burned for 5 TD's by Jason.:D

Well, maybe the Broncos are smarter than the Jets, and maybe not.
If anyone can help resuscitate Ramsey's career it should be Shanahan.

You don't take away a guy's job due to injury. Brunell took over in the Chicago game and won, but Ramsey didn't get a chance to redeem himself. Then Brunell kind of faded at the end of that season. I would really like to see Ramsey excel with some regular playing time.
