"Rivera isn't getting too old and worn down"
"Fabini is a veteran parcells guy and a great LT"
"Davis is a great blocker and was just waiting for our oline coach to fix him"
If the cowboys wanted a fat, overpaid, but athletic for his size guard, the should of kept allen for less. Last i heard he was plowing holes for frank gore and getting paid a lot less than davis.

Is Rivera gonna play this year? They might want Fabini to stick around...

Cowboys | Rivera's future uncertain
Sat, 10 Mar 2007 10:32:29 -0800
Mac Engel, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys OG Marco Rivera's tenure with the team is likely over after the team agreed to a contract with OL Marc Columbo. Rivera is coming off his second back surgery in two years and there is a possibility that he could retire. Talking about Rivera's future with the team, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said, "He will decide what his future is going to be. I don't need to go into his pluses. We are all aware of the issues of his back. [Signing Colombo] allows us the flexibility to be pretty patient with Rivera."
The head coach and the OC don't have any say in this personnel decision? :whoknows:

Bad FA decision?
He was brought in on a minimal salary to battle for the starting gig.
He lost to the better player who turned out to be pretty darn good.
He became an experienced backup who wouldve played if needed.
He's now off the team with an insignificant cap hit.
EDIT: It's a $100,000 cap hit to be exact. Man that will really hurt us.

Re-read it again you are looking for something that isn't there The "HE" reffered to in "he will decide what his future will be" is Rivera, meaning it is up to Rivera to return. It is believed he will retire. So no the HC, OC or Jerry have any say at all on Riveras decision to retire or not

Wow.
Skins fans will take shots at ANYTHING cowboys related.
Rivera was an absolute bust. He did not pan out. You have that one. Fabini is a non-factor.
He helped us last year in the role we got him for, experienced backup.
You know, Boys fans also said that Kosier would surprise, and he played well.
Columbo also was pumped up and he has been a nice find.
2 out of 3 ain't bad..

When signed, thoughts were different!
Its a good signing considering the turnstyles we had at RT last season.
He brings stability to a position that hasnt had it in a long time.
It also means we probably wont be using a draft pick on the tackle spot this season.
IMO, its a good signing because he's a "Parcells guy" and Parcells usually gets the most out of his "guys".

The thoughts were differnt last year I remember the hype and it really doesn't matter about the money it matters that he was brought in as a prospective starter and washes out after a year.

And he did.
He was a veteran backup who ended up not being needed.
How exactly was it a bad move?

And so was 7th round pick Petitti.
We had 3 candidates and one rose to the occassion and then some.
We found our RT with minimal investments.
I'm pretty darn happy in the end.

He was brought in to start! That didn't work out so well. Players signing three year deals usually last at least two years.
He was just what all nonCowboy fans stated, another turnstyle.

Very True they should have kept Allen cheaper than they are paying a bust the best money of all the guards period!!! :D

He was brought in to COMPETE to start.
And it didnt work out.
What was the result? We had an experienced backup who we were comfortable with had the situation arose where he had to play.
And he never had that chance to show if he was a turnstile or not.
Columbo wouldnt let him. :D

The last few years the Cowboys have taken chances on several OL. Some have worked and some haven't. Colombo worked, Fabini didn't. Santana Moss worked, Christian Fauria didn't.

Oh come on HHM, you can't tell me you didn't think he would be the starter when he was hired!
And if Dallas was comfortable with him as you say, why would they cut him in the second year of his contract?

TheFanHow can you compare Moss, who was brought in to be the #1 WR and Fauria, who was brought in to be situational blocking TE?

Based on his past performance and Parcells affinity for him, sure I thought he would probably win the job.
But that was before I saw how well Columbo performed. It was before ANYONE knew how Columbo would play.
Its why he was brought in. Because Dallas did not yet fully know what they had in Columbo.
He then became an expensive backup offensive lineman.
We have a capable backup now who is much cheaper who needs to be groomed in case either tackle goes down.
