The Tennessee Titans landed one free agent on Tuesday and could be on the verge of getting another one soon.
The Titans agreed to terms with cornerback Nick Harper on a three-year contract. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.
Tennessee is also believed to be a major contender to land wide receiver Kevin Curtis of the St. Louis Rams, one of two players to visit Baptist Sports Park on Tuesday.
Harper, who played for the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts, has had the Titans atop his list since last week when he stopped taking visits and his agent Ian Greengross began exclusive talks with the Titans.
“We had some strong interest from Minnesota and Detroit, but we were able to get it done with Tennessee,” agent Ian Greengross said.
The deal will likely be finalized today.
Harper, who will be 33 this season, has 15 career interceptions, including three in each of the past three seasons. He has been one of the top cornerbacks for the Colts, and scored the only touchdown of his NFL career against the Titans in a 2003 game at the RCA Dome.
Harper is versatile enough to compete for a starting job outside with Reynaldo Hill and Cortland Finnegan and also would give the Titans needed insurance in the event that Adam “Pacman” Jones is suspended by the league for his off-field transgressions.
