View Full Version : How could we trade the 6th pick NOW?

I don't see how it makes any sense to trade our pick away before draft day. If any of Russell/Brady/Johnson/Peterson/Thomas slips down to six, that pick becomes way way way more valuable than Briggs and a 31st.
Those five guys I list up there are guys you can build a franchise around. While Briggs is an animal at what he does, he's not someone you build a team around. I mean, that trade just screams arrrrrchhhuuulllleettttaaaa! The only way you take this trade is if we also swap Lloyd for Berrian.
Our first rounder this year is worth a later first rounder this year and a first rounder next year.
Is there ANY way that it makes sense to trade the 6th pick already?

i agree. Briggs is not worth moving 25 slots down for in the first place, unless we can pick up a 1st rounder next year or a 2nd and 3rd rounder this year. Briggs doesn't seem like a team guy either, so I dont want him.
I say we wait until draft day and then if one of those top 5 guys are there, hopefully we can move down a few spots and still get say Jamal Anderson and a 2nd round pick. As long as we don't draft Alan Branch i'll be happy, when has a DT in the first round ever been productive when there taken that high?

i love Briggs, and think he could definantly put our defense over the top, but at the same time, to move 25 spots is a WHOOOLE lot. its just to bad, that someone around 10-15 doesnt have a great LB that we can get. Cause if the Bears were sitting in the 10-15 range i would do this in a heart beat

Who the hell cares, If we land briggs its better odds then the draft. Adams could be a pink poodle for all you know. At least you can have high hopes for briggs because he's young and injury free.

if the bears throw in their 2nd rounder, this deal rules.

You make valid points, points I agree with. Points that hopefully Cerberus will consider before acting. My questions is this, if Briggs comes here what happens to Rocky? Is Brian Urlacher going to play with Lance Briggs here? Is he going to play behind Tommy Harris, Adewale Ogunleye, Tank Johnson, Mark Anderson? No, he isn't. Lance Briggs is a solid player but he is a product of the players around him and a well coached defense. That, we aint got.

My only point is this. While it looks like briggs is an animal, how much of this is due because of the scheme he plays in and the players that surround him. I am 99.9% sure that offensive cordinators are more concerned with what Brian U. is doing rather than Briggs.
Scary trade if you ask me.
Skinstzar... I couldnt have said it better.

Without another draft pick, help on either line, or a wide receiver, this trade is so one-sided it's unbelievable. People seem more concerned about bringing Briggs on board than about losing our draft gold.

Well I say wait till were on the draft clock then make our choice then to see who is available at #6.....

Agreed. Why not wait? The Bears are the ones with an unhappy player who is threatening to sit out the first 10 games. The Skins are in a position of power - I say make the Bears sweat and sweeten the deal. Watch, if we make the trade now - we will see Chicago trade down with our #6, to the 15 +/- spot, get a top DE or DT along with a decent 2nd.

For a 6th pick, the only Bear we should consider is Tommie Harris.

I agree with Idahofan. Make em sweat until draft day.

Ugh.....I'm gradually coming around to this Briggs deal. If someone told me a random team had the LB corps of Briggs, Fletcher, and Washington, I'd say that's pretty scary sounding LB corps. (although that's pretty reminiscent of our scary safety corps last year)

Rumor: Lance Briggs will get injured first defensive snap next season and sit out.
Okay... if that happened would you still wish you had made that trade?

Also to add to this. Briggs is worth a first rounder. So our 6th round pick that is worth what some are calling a first and second/third rounder this season. Hypothetically, we are getting a first round pick in Briggs, and another pick at 31. It's a good trade but we have Rocky McIntosh/Lemar Marshall which makes this trade seem unreal.
I think it would be a good trade from a mere value standpoint. But we don't need an LB.
If we run a 3-4, Carter is the odd man out...if we run a 4-3, RM/LM are odd men out...and those three players have shown to be capable Redskins (okay the jury is out on Rocky, but I think he will be a great player) Carter was our best pass rusher last season so I don't think we should trade him.
I say we keep the 6th pick and trade down to acquire more picks, and still land one of the top guys on our radar (unless one of the top players is availible at 6).

And if you draft Branch, he could be out of the league in 3-4 years do to being out of shape and injury problems that occur because a player ins't conditioned properly. Adams could end up being run over on run plays and be considered a bust that never panned out, Okoye could just be another solid but not spectacular DT and Briggs could go on to be a pro bowler for another 5-7 seasons.
You can't predict the future, but you can look at production. Briggs has skills, much more atheletic ability than any LB the Redskins have on the roster, and has already had playoff experience. Those college players? Yeah they were spending last year playing against other college players while Briggs was playing in the Superbowl.
While I think a deal like Briggs to Washington should wait, it is by no means a bad deal. The Redskins could still select a 1st round player and pick up a LB who will be around long after Washington and Fletcher have retired, assuming thats not even in the next 2 seasons.
