Redskins inquire about Briggs

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Washington Redskins have talked with the Chicago Bears about disgruntled Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs, who has threatened to sit out the 2007 season after the Super Bowl runner-ups slapped a franchise tag on him.
"The two teams have talked and its in their hands now," Briggs' agent Drew Rosenhaus told the Daily Southtown of suburban Chicago on Tuesday. "It's out of my hands now."
Bears general manager Jerry Angelo, in town for the NFL meetings, said:
"We will take what (the Redskins) said under consideration and we told them if there's anything on our part we would get back with them," Angelo said, adding there is no timetable for a deal.
"I'm taking it under advisement. ... I didn't come down here anticipating any of this. I'll take it under consideration and get back with them."
Briggs, a two-time Pro Bowl linebacker, would earn $7.2 million in 2007 from the Bears, the average of the five highest salaries at his position.
He met Monday with Angelo.

Guess there's no more debate about the 'Skins involvement in this, eh?

Bunch of posturing all around.
Rosenhaus and Briggs are trying to get paid, that's reason enough for the Bears to be mad at the Skins I suppose?

Obviously, Drew Rosenhaus wrote that article to increase interest in his client. He's a slick one.
I kid, I kid....

I would say it is pretty obvious that those of you around here that don't want this deal to happen put a whole butt load of stock in the rumor that Mort and Clayton reported on ESPN. Every other source on Earth seems to say this deal is happening...Briggs, Fletcher, and Washington...sounds damn scary to me, even if it means we give up one of the three "sure things" at #6...

 Take off the burgundy shades for a second my friend. Theres enough evidence for Hellen Keller to see the Redskins have made this offer. What is so hard to believe about it? The offer has been made. Why would Angelo say he will take what the Redskins said into consideration if there wasnt any substance there? He has no reason to lie contrary to all of the conspiracy theorists.

I'm with you dog. I think people are smoking dope to think this is not a good deal.
You know whats funny...........Last year we wher spending a bunch of money and everybody on this board was yelling SUPER BOWL BOUND.
We had a bad season do to a lot of injuries and a old ass qb starting the season and now everybody wants us to save money and value the draft. Thats fickle minded.
I have no problem with my owner spending money and using free agency, just get the right players and dont just give away draft picks for trash (tj duckett and B loyd).
Last year we did not need another saftey...but they went out and got a safty who could not cover and who had back problems. Last year we needed WR, THEY WENT OUT AND GOT 2 SHORT ASS WR'S:doh: They should have gottin a possesion WR.
This guy Briggs is a playmaker and can get our D back in the top 10. Unless some other team is going to let us trade down with them and get more pick, we should do this deal. you can still get a stud D-linemen at 31.

You stole my line.
We had the 24th and 21st ranked defense with those guys. I guess the DL is pretty important after all.

What were we ranked the year before this and the year after this. Who played on our lines these three years? I bet you have no idea any of the answers.

Curious to know how our line will get better without adding any players.
Carter should be a little better and Golston could turn into a solid player. But Griff is just getting older, Big Joe is declining fast -- same goes for Daniels and Wynn.
Here's a real scary thought. If we don't find at least one quality d-lineman this offseason, our d-line could be even worse than it was last season.

We'll be adding linemen. Griffin, Salave'a, Daniels and Wynn, all uninjured. Salave'a really should have just been put on IR, but this is a man who gave HIMSELF surgery two years ago to get back on the field sooner when the team was going to shelve him. Better coverage will allow Williams to play the defense more as he wishes to, helping the defensive line as well.
Honestly though, every single one of our top five guys had injuries last year that should have put them down for six to 8 weeks, and all kept trying to play. It was a bad stretch for us, to be certain.

And they're all even older now -- which means they're even more prone to injuries. I hope the front office has a better plan than just writing off last year as bad luck.
