Its a TOUGH first stretch of games and a very tough April overall. But 2-9 is very unlikely.
Anita Marks interviewed a radio guy fot the Twins who was a total DOUCHE named "Dark Star" who joked that the "O's are in trouble since Erik Bedard is their opening starter."
Erik Bedard would start for than half the league on opening day, idiot.

Bedard was getting squeezed pretty bad out there, and it looked like he couldn't get more than his fastball over consistently. Didn't help that Bako looked scared behind the dish.

So when's the strike zone going to grow for O's pitchers?
I know. One pitch in the Gibby ab looked like it was right there, and called a ball. Then the 3-1 pitch was 3 inches outside of that for strike 2. huh?

Mora is not a very good offensive player anymore is he?
The middle of our order was money (Tejada, Huff, and Gibbons) but we need some other guys to step up.

Oh well, its only the first game..Bedard didnt look to good, but we did get 4 runs off Santana.

I was worried about today with Bedard's last start, he looked shaky there too with some mild control problems. Last night he looked lost at times, he wasn't able to locate the ball half the time anywhere near where he wanted and he and Bako got crossed up a little. I bet the whole getting used to each other thing with Bako and Bedard hurt a little there. Hernandez would have known how to better work with Bedard and the stuff he had out there I think. Santana was a little of his game too so I think we can chalk it up to opening day for both of them and say that Santana had the home crowd advantage (kinda like Lopez in last year's opener). The other starters in the division didn't look all that well either with the D-rays getting shelled, Pavano giving up 6 in less time than Bedard, Schilling getting shelled by the Royals, heck the only good performance was Halladay at 3 runs in 6. And he got a ND on the day like Pavano. I am not pleased but with the way Bedard has shown he can pitch I think he has earned the benifit of the doubt on this one that he won't be like this very often this year.
That 3 run inning for the O's was really off the wall though... Markakis draws a walk from an 0-2 count on 4 straight pitches and was the only lefty to bat that inning not to get a double, mean while every righty that batted got an out.
Lets see what we can do with the rest of this series, Hopefully we can go 500 on the road, that would be really the best we can expect, we can hope for more though.

I'm really excited about Cabrera pitching tonight...I'm gonna guess 8 K's in just over 6 innings and the O's get their first win of the year!
oriolesfan93p
April-3rd-2007, 11:19 AM
I will reserve judgments on Cabrera for a few games on wether or not he has turned the corner, a couple years ago he looked just as good if not better in spring training than this year and his first start I think everyone remembers quite well unfortunately. We shall see and Hopefully it is not 8 Ks and 4 walks in 6 innings, I would rather see 6 Ks and 2 Walks in 8 innings after what our bullpen had to deal with last night.
TheDoyler23
April-3rd-2007, 11:27 AM
Parrish looked great out there last night. I think he could close if Ray goes down or is traded despite Baez being on the roster.
Markakis punched 2 tickets to the gun show in one game. 2 serious ropes and his body posture and timing were ideal. Tom Emanske like fundamentals!
I think West's srtike zone was terrible. Just terrible. Bedard needs that pitch on the outside black afainst righties.
Tejada showing power and range w the glove early is a good, He HAD to come up with that liner late in the game though. That was 2 runs there against a possible double play.
I think Mora looked a lot better than his stat line.
We can't lose to some guy named "Boof."

He wasn't that bad, he was just off, and the umpire's strike zone floated, a lot, which was really frustrating. The first HR off Bedard was a fast ball at the knees and on the outside edge that the batter hit the other way, so he hit a good pitch, and then Bedard threw a bad pitch up and away to Hunter for a HR... they hit good pitches and bad alike last night so I don't totally blame Bedard.
Does Gibbons have the best avg against Johan? They said he was best on the Orioles against him, but technically I don't know if there is someone who may be 2-2 against him, but Gibby was best on the Orioles vs him
As for the comment on Bako catching Cabrera... if Cabrera has indeed turned the corner then it shouldn't be a problem, if he hasn't then he may as well stand 10 feet back and try to dive on the ball on each pitch....

haven't been able to post on here much lately, been out of town. im dissapointed that the O's started 0-2 and that Bedard sucked in his start. I'm pumped to see Cabrera pitching well. Absolutely...
The Orioles should have gotten a quality starting pitcher this offseason and last. Bedard is not an ace IMO. A good pitcher certainly, but not an ace as I would personally define it. They addressed the bullpen but they still need starting pitching and another bat.

It's not just the pitching with this team, their offense is average at best. Outside of Tejeda, we really don't have an everyday threat in the lineup. And please don't even say Roberts, Mora or Gibbons.

At least our bullpen hasn't blown any games.
Wow, that was a stretch for a brightside.
I wonder if Wright is hurt, or is lacking the arm strength out there. I wonder when Hernandez and Payton, two everyday starters, will suit up. I wonder when we will have a bench that doesn't contain Bynum! And I'm wondering if Trachsel will be the next shoe to drop in our rotation.
Bedard WILL pitch better. Hopefully Dcab will get a little more luck and the rest, sadly, will be a crapshoot. If it does get that bad by the end of the month...Add Olson and Penn to the rotation and try and win some games. I A's did that not long ago with their staff and those guys did well after taking their lumps.
